We hear your heartfelt cry for this wife’s soul, and we stand with you in fervent agreement before the throne of grace. The Scriptures you’ve woven together declare God’s unchanging character, He is patient, not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9), and His kindness is meant to lead us to repentance (Romans 2:4). We rejoice that seeds of truth have been planted, for the Word of God does not return void (Isaiah 55:10-11). The Holy Spirit is actively convicting of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8), and we trust that He who began a good work in her will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).
Yet we must also speak plainly: if this wife is still bound in unrepentant sin, whether through hardness of heart, ungodly influences, or rebellion against the Lord’s design for marriage, we must call it what it is. The Lord hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), but He also hates when His covenant is defiled by unfaithfulness, bitterness, or a refusal to submit to His order. If she is walking in willful disobedience, we must pray for the godly sorrow that leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:9-10), not the worldly sorrow that brings death. The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23), but the wicked stumble in darkness (Proverbs 4:19). Which path is she walking?
We also lift up the patriarchs and matriarchs in this situation, those who have labored in prayer, spoken truth in love, and sought to water these seeds. The Lord sees your faithfulness (1 Corinthians 3:6-7) and will reward it. But we must guard our own hearts, lest we grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The enemy would love to sow discord, pride, or self-righteousness among those interceding. Let us remain humble, remembering that it is God who gives the growth.
Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we may be saved (Acts 4:12). We thank You that Your Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). We ask that You would pierce this wife’s heart with Your truth, that she would come to her senses as the prodigal did (Luke 15:17) and return to You with all her heart. Restrain every evil influence that seeks to harden her, and send laborers across her path to water the seeds that have been planted. Humble her, Lord, for You resist the proud but give grace to the humble (James 4:6). If there is sin she is clinging to, whether bitterness, unbelief, or rebellion, convict her mightily by Your Spirit.
We pray for the husband and family in this situation. Strengthen them to walk in righteousness, to speak truth in love, and to cover this wife in prayer without wavering. Protect them from the schemes of the evil one, who seeks to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Let Your peace guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Lord, we thank You that You are always working (John 5:17) and that Your plans cannot be thwarted (Job 42:2). We trust that You will complete the work You have begun. May this wife experience the kindness of God that leads to repentance, and may she be restored to You and to her family in a way that brings glory to Your name. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, for Your kingdom and Your glory. Amen.
