You are The Good Shepherd that lay down Your life for us, Your sheep, John 10:11. Thank You that not only do Your Sheep hear Your voice, Jn 10:27, but that You lead them out, and we don't listen to others, John 10:3-4, but only head Your voice and follow You, John 10:27, but that You care for us, Ps 23:3 Isa 40:11, Ezek 34:15, Rev 7:17. Take care of us, defend us, comfort and feed us on wisdom and knowledge, Give Your angels charge over us and our fellow believers in spiritual battles, Ps 91:9-16, Heb 1:14. Strengthen our brothers and sisters, even shepherd the entire flock of God among us, 1 Pet 5:2, help us be on guard for ourselves and the flock of God among us from evil and warped wolves, Acts 20:28-29, by abiding in You and Your teaching, John 15:1-9, studying, obeying and teaching obedience to all Jesus commanded, Matt 28:20. Strengthen us and all in the faith with power and might through the Holy Spirit to know the dimensions of Your love, Eph 3:14-18. Be near those who are in need of deliverance, setting us free by just saying the Word, Matt 8:8, and draw us and all around us to Jesus. Especially draw those weary and heavy laden, that You might give them rest, Your yoke is easy and burden is light, so they find rest for their souls, Matt 11:28-30. Work everything out for the furtherance of the gospel, Phil 1:12.

Grant relief to the persecuted church like You did when the evil king began by laying hands on some who belonged to the church in order to mistreat them, had the Apostle James the brother of John the Beloved put to death with the sword, Acts 12:1-2, and give us testimonies like we have of the Apostle Peter's angelic release from prison in Acts 12:3-17 and the Apostles Paul and Silas' earthquake resulting in the conversion of the Philippian Jailer and his household in Acts 16:27-32. Hebrews 10:34. Help us sympathize with those in prison and joyfully accept the confiscation property, knowing that we ourselves have a better and permanent possession, Hebrews 10:34. Call and grant boldness give them visits, as Jesus said in Matthew 25:36, "I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me." Be their Shepherd even in those situations, Rom 8:38-39.

Give grace to us all to purposely draw near to You, so You draw near to us, James 4:8. You are the vine, we are the branches; the one who remains in You, and You in them bears much fruit for apart from You we can do nothing, Jn 15:5. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, Phil 4:13. Help us keep You holy in our hearts so as to be ready in season and out of season (at any time in any circumstance) to give an answer for the hope within us, with respect, 2 Tim 2:25, so ungodliness glorifies God that it had a good witness before You returned, 1 Pet 3:15-16. Deliver us from evil people and the evil one, temptation and sin. 2 Thes 3:2-3, Matt 6:13, Luke 11:4, John 17:15. Let love abound more in knowledge and discernment so we can choose the best in every situation that gives us a choice, so we may be sincere and blameless until Your Son's return, being filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from union with Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God, Phil 1:9-11. Let us freely receive Your abundant love and freely give it to others, healing the sick, raising the dead, and casting out demons, Matt 10:8. Not unto us, but to Your Name give glory, do whatever You please, but as the Earth You have given to the sons of men, help us rule in part with You even now, Ps 115:1-18. Perfect our love, for as You are, so also are we in this world, 1 John 4:17. Thank You in Jesus' Name.

We come before You, the Good Shepherd, with hearts full of gratitude and reverence, lifting up this cry for Your flock, those who are persecuted, weary, and in need of Your guiding hand. You are the One who lays down Your life for the sheep (John 10:11), who calls us by name and leads us out (John 10:3), and who promises never to leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). We stand in awe of Your faithfulness, even as we intercede for Your people.

Father, we pray for the persecuted church around the world, those who are imprisoned, mistreated, or facing the sword for the sake of Your name. Just as You delivered Peter from prison by Your angel (Acts 12:7) and shook the foundations of the jail to free Paul and Silas (Acts 16:26), we ask for Your miraculous intervention. Strengthen their faith, Lord, so that even in chains, their testimonies may shine like lights in the darkness. May their suffering not be in vain, but may it advance the gospel as it did in Philippi (Philippians 1:12). Give them boldness to proclaim Your truth, even in the face of death, and grant them the grace to rejoice in their sufferings, knowing that their reward in heaven is great (Matthew 5:11-12). We remember them as if we were suffering with them (Hebrews 13:3), and we ask that You would move in the hearts of believers to visit, support, and stand with them, for whatever we do for the least of these, we do for You (Matthew 25:40).

Shepherd, we also lift up the broader flock, those who are weary, heavy-laden, and in need of rest. You have promised that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). We ask that You would draw near to those who are struggling, whether in spirit, mind, or body, and give them the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). For those who are battling temptation, sin, or the schemes of the evil one, we pray for deliverance and protection. Guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7), and let no weapon formed against them prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We rebuke the lies of the enemy that seek to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and we declare that You have come to give life, and life abundantly.

Lord, we confess that apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). We need Your strength, Your wisdom, and Your love to abide in us so that we may bear much fruit. Teach us to remain in You, to study Your Word, and to obey Your commands, so that we may be equipped to stand against the wolves that seek to devour the flock (Acts 20:29). Give us discernment to recognize false teachings and the courage to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). May we be ready at all times to give an answer for the hope that is in us, with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15), so that even in our defense, Christ may be glorified.

We pray for those who are lost, broken, or far from You. Draw them to Yourself, Lord, for no one can come to You unless the Father draws them (John 6:44). Let Your love compel us to share the gospel boldly, to heal the sick, to cast out demons, and to proclaim that the kingdom of God is near (Matthew 10:7-8). May we not seek glory for ourselves but give all honor and praise to Your name (Psalm 115:1). Perfect our love, Lord, so that as You are, so may we be in this world (1 John 4:17). Let us love one another deeply, for love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

Finally, we pray for unity in the body of Christ. May we be one as You and the Father are one (John 17:21), so that the world may know that You sent Your Son. Strengthen us by Your Spirit to walk in humility, patience, and forbearance, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2). Let our lives reflect Your righteousness, so that we may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation (Philippians 2:15).

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls (1 Peter 2:25), who alone has the words of eternal life (John 6:68). To You be the glory, both now and forever. Amen.

We read through your prayer, and it stirred something in us, not just the scope of your intercession, but the sheer persistence of love behind it. You are bringing the whole flock to the Shepherd’s feet: the strong and the weary, those walking free and those in chains, those waging visible battles and those fighting in the unseen. That kind of wide-armed prayer is a gift to the body of Christ, and we want you to know we are joining you in it.

What stands out is how you don’t just ask for protection or relief; you ask for the church to walk in the same boldness and compassion that Jesus modeled, visiting prisoners, joyfully accepting loss, abiding in the Vine so that fruit remains. That is not a small request. It is the heartbeat of a people who understand that the Shepherd’s care often comes through ordinary hands and feet. So we are praying not only for the persecuted, but for you and all who carry this burden, that your own love would not grow cold and that you would see evidence that God is moving in the very places you have lifted up.

We are also reminded that when the early church prayed for Peter in prison, the answer came in a way that surprised them, an angel, an unlocked gate, a knock at the door no one expected. We do not know how God will shepherd His sheep in the specific trials you have named, but we know He will, and we are asking with you to see it.

Take a moment today to let yourself be one of the sheep as well, rest in the care you are asking for others. You are not carrying the whole flock alone.

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd, we bring You every brother and sister hiding in a cave, languishing in a cell, or standing firm in the quiet routines of faithfulness. Give them courage, give them daily bread, and let them sense Your nearness in ways that cannot be explained. For those in chains, grant sudden relief and open doors. For those frightened, give peace that outweighs every threat. Strengthen Your people to visit, clothe, and care, and make us quick to share in suffering. And for the one who prayed these things, let love abound still more, with knowledge and all discernment, until the day You return. In Your mighty name, Amen.

It is no small comfort to the tried and afflicted soul to know that the Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep, and that having laid it down, He takes it up again that He may ever live to lead His flock. He who is the Shepherd will surely tend the lambs and gather them in His arms, and nothing shall pluck them from His hand. The cry goes up for the persecuted church, and rightly so, for the history of God’s people is a history of deliverance. Israel in Egypt, the apostles in bonds, and our brethren in prison today, all prove that the more the church is afflicted, the more she increases. Persecution is the dry wind that winnows the wheat; it drives away the chaff, but the pure grain remains. Let us not fear the fires, for the Son of Man walks with His saints in the furnace, and the smell of smoke shall not cling to their garments.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. The Holy Ghost descended at Pentecost and has never returned; He abides with the true church evermore. In the darkest hour, He is present to awaken, to strengthen, and to work deliverance. It is not by might nor by power, but by His Spirit that the bars of iron are broken and the hearts of jailers are opened. Our God has a thousand ways to rescue those who trust in Him. An angel may come to Peter’s cell, an earthquake may shake the foundations of Philippi, or a king’s heart may be turned as rivers of water. The Lord delays but never forgets; He brings them forth at the very moment when the ransom is found and the sin is pardoned, and none can hinder.

Let us learn that the first duty of the sheep is confidence in the Shepherd. When the wolf scatters and the hireling flees, the true sheep trust the voice they know. They may be called to suffer reproach, to lose property, or even to face the sword, but they possess a better and enduring substance. The apostle could joyfully accept the plundering of his goods, for he had treasure in heaven. And what of the visitation of prisoners? It is Christ Himself who says, “I was in prison and you visited Me.” Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. The church that prays for those in chains binds herself to the suffering members, and the whole body is strengthened.

Beloved, if we would bear fruit, we must abide in the Vine. Apart from Christ we are withered branches, fit only for the burning. But if His words abide in us, we shall ask what we will and it shall be done. The secret of power in prayer is oneness with Jesus. When we walk in love, when we guard the deposit of truth, and when we give answer to every man with meekness and fear, then the world takes knowledge that we have been with Jesus. And let us remember that the ultimate end of all deliverance, all service, and all suffering is the glory of God. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy and Thy truth’s sake.

Go forth, then, with holy boldness. The Lord is your Shepherd; you shall not want. He will lead you through the valley of the shadow of death, and you shall fear no evil, for He is with you. Even now the angels are ministering spirits for those who shall inherit salvation. The battle is the Lord’s, and the victory is certain. Let your loins be girded about with truth, and having done all, stand. The Chief Shepherd shall appear, and when He comes, He will gather the lambs in His bosom and lead those that are with young, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes. Until that day, watch and pray, for you know not what a day may bring forth. Amen.

The good shepherd layeth down his life for his sheep. So great is the concern and sympathy of a good Pastor, that he is contending, before countless witnesses. For the flock, if he be such a shepherd as he ought to be, he can die every day. This is the rule for the fittest Pastor: not to flee from the wolves, but to stand and be bold.

For when they had compassion on the multitude because they were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd, He did not merely pity them but led them forth, calling His own by name, and going before them. Even in bonds, the great athlete said not "that I may be freed from my bonds," but exhorted others that God might open a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ with all boldness. His bonds displayed, not obscured him. The sheep hear His voice, and they follow Him; they know the voice of the true Shepherd, and a stranger will they not follow.

Thus, nothing is more dearly desired than this: to speak as we ought to speak, even amidst chains. And what is this boldness? To reprove not with audacity, but with courage, like Elijah who said, "I trouble not Israel, but thou and thy father's house." For poverty especially produces boldness: the poor man is very strong, and has nothing wherefrom he may be wronged; but the rich man is assailable on every side. So He sends His disciples with poverty to a work requiring great boldness.

Therefore, faint not at the trials of the persecuted church. Remember those in bonds as bound with them, and joyfully accept the spoiling of your goods, knowing that a better and an enduring substance is yours. For when the evil king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church, the shepherd himself stayed the wrath, saying, "I the shepherd have sinned, and these the flock what have they done?" The good Shepherd careth for the sheep, and He leadeth them out. He that entereth by the door, the same is the Shepherd of the sheep; to Him the doorkeeper openeth.

He calleth His own by name, and leadeth them out. A city set on a hill cannot be hid: so far from being hid, the word of their testimony shall over-shine the whole world, and on this very account they shall be illustrious and renowned. Therefore, let love abound more and more in all knowledge, that ye may be sincere and without offence, filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ. He that abideth in the vine bringeth forth much fruit.

And what can separate us from the love of Christ? Not height, nor depth, nor any other creature. So draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you.

The cry of your heart reaches the throne of the Good Shepherd, who knows His own and is known by them. He does not leave His flock unattended. He has set one Shepherd over them, who feeds them and is their peace. When you call on Him to shepherd His sheep, to defend and comfort and lead, you are echoing a promise He has already spoken and will never break. He leads you out, and because you are His, you hear His voice and follow. You find rest not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep.

Do not be surprised that the world often rejects that voice. Many are looking for a hireling who will tell them what they want to hear, not a shepherd who speaks truth in love and hazards his life for the flock. The hireling runs when the wolf comes. But the true Shepherd stays. And those who belong to Him, though they may be imprisoned or stripped of possessions, discover that they have a better and lasting possession. When you remember those in chains, you are binding yourself to them in a deep and holy fellowship. Their suffering is not wasted. Just as the apostle’s bonds emboldened other believers to speak the word without fear, so today the faithful witness of the persecuted can become the very means by which jailers and households are brought to salvation. The Lord still sends earthquakes at midnight; He still opens iron gates. He may not always grant release, but He always provides a testimony. And sometimes the release comes simply in being sustained through the trial, a living witness that the love of God in Christ can fill a prison cell with songs of praise.

This should steady your own soul as you seek boldness. You are not called to manufacture results, only to be faithful with the witness that has been entrusted to you. What people do with that witness is between them and God. You need not wonder if your words are sufficient, because the work of the Holy Spirit is the greater witness. The works that the Father has given Jesus to complete bear witness that He was sent from God, and the Spirit continues to testify through the lives of simple, yielded believers. You have a witness within you, placed there by God Himself, and to deny or suppress it would be to call God a liar. But to speak it, even with trembling, is to agree with heaven. So do not settle for the witness of man, which smooths over offense and insists all paths are valid. The witness of God is greater: there is one flock, one Shepherd, and one door of salvation. That is the message that heals the sick, loosens chains, and raises the dead. It is not yours to improve; it is yours to steward.

As an under-shepherd, keep your eyes on the Chief Shepherd. He will hold you accountable for how you care for His lambs, so feed them with wisdom and knowledge. Study His commands, abide in the Vine, and let the fruit of righteousness grow in quiet, ordinary faithfulness. The shepherd who loves the sheep does not need a flashy life. He simply walks out each morning, calls his own by name, and leads them to green pastures. The sheep know his voice because he spends hours with them, not because he performs for them. So draw near to Him with purpose, and you will find that He draws near to you. In that nearness, love is perfected, fear is cast out, and even the most hostile courtroom or living room becomes a place where you can give an answer for the hope within you, with gentleness and reverence.

May the great Shepherd of the sheep, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will. He will not leave you to face the wolf alone. He has already carried the lamb home. And He will carry you.
