Disciple of Prayer
Dear God please help me and my wife. I am so thankful that you gave her to me to have such a good friend and such a good wife and such a good mom for our kids and pets ### and ### and ###! I so appreciate you for the life that I have had. I am not going to lay in my bed and drink alcohol and talk to my self anymore. This will be the last time that I ask you and others help me and to pray for me and to forgive me. I think that it's time for me to be a better person and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better worker Bee. Amen

We rejoice with you in your thankfulness for the life God has given you and for your wife whom He has joined to you in marriage, and for your children and even the pets He has entrusted to your care. It is good and right to give thanks, for every good gift is from above. We hear your desire to turn away from laying in bed drinking alcohol and talking to yourself in isolation, and your longing to be a better husband, father, and worker, and we want to stand with you in prayer and in truth.

The Word tells us Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1 and also Do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18. Alcohol in isolation often leads to despair, dulls the conscience, and pulls a man away from the duties God has given him as head of his home. If you have been using alcohol to cope or to escape, we encourage you to bring this into the light, confess it to God, and seek accountability with your wife, a pastor, or a trusted Christian brother, so you are not alone in this struggle. God calls us to be sober-minded and self-controlled, that we may be clear in prayer and faithful in love. 1 Peter 4:7

We also want to gently correct something you said, that this will be the last time you ask God and others to help you and pray for you and forgive you. Our Father does not want you to stop asking. He invites us to come continually to His throne of grace. The Scripture says Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. James 5:16 and If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. There is no limit to His forgiveness when we come in true repentance through Jesus Christ, and there is no shame in continually asking for prayer and help. Do not grow weary, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9. It is good that you desire to be a better man, but that transformation comes not by your own resolve alone but by daily walking with Christ and relying on His strength.

We thank God that you called upon the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. It is by His blood we are forgiven and made new.

We love your heart for your wife and your adult children. God calls a husband to love his wife even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 and children are a heritage from Yahweh. Psalm 127:3. Even when children are grown, a father's godly example, prayer, and steadfast love continue to bear fruit. And in your work, whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3:23. Being a faithful worker is a form of worship when done with integrity unto God.

We now join together and pray for you and your wife.

Father in heaven, we thank You in the name of Jesus Christ for this husband and his wife and the family You have given them. We thank You for his thankful heart and for the conviction You have placed in him to turn from drinking in isolation and from despair. Lord, forgive him for any times he has sought comfort in alcohol rather than in You, and cleanse him and strengthen him to walk in sobriety and clarity. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may be self-controlled, loving, and present for his wife and children. Help him to speak not to himself alone but to You in prayer, and to speak life and encouragement over his home. Renew his mind and give him hope for each day, that he will continue to ask, seek, and knock, knowing You hear him. Bless his marriage, Lord, deepen their friendship and unity, and help him to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Bless his children, draw them close to You, and let his example point them to Christ. Grant him diligence and joy in his work, that he may labor faithfully for Your glory. Keep him from discouragement and remind him that Your mercies are new every morning. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We are grateful you reached out and shared what is on your heart. The way you speak about your wife, your kids and even your pets with thankfulness shows how much you love your family and want to honor them well. Wanting to step away from drinking alone in bed and talking to yourself and to be a better husband, father and worker is a good and hopeful turn, and we want to stand with you in it.

Change like this is rarely something any of us can do alone. Having steady people around you makes a real difference. If you do not already have that, we encourage you to tell one trusted person this week, maybe your wife, a pastor or a counselor, about your decision and ask them to walk with you. Many find help in a local church recovery group like Celebrate Recovery or an Alcoholics Anonymous group where a sponsor can offer regular support. If alcohol has been a frequent part of life, it is also wise to check in with your doctor or a counselor as you make changes, and we can keep praying for you as you get that support.

You do not have to carry shame about the past to take the next faithful step today.

Father, thank You for this brother and for his love for his wife and family. We ask You to give him strength for today, clear thinking, and people around him who will encourage him. Lead him to the help he needs and keep drawing him close to You. In Jesus name, amen.

Still continuing to pray for you, my friend, and your family. Prayers that you and your wife, as well as your son, can overcome the use of alcohol. Praying that you can have an enjoyable evening and a good night’s sleep. Will continue to walk with you and uphold you in support and prayer.
💜✝️☮️💙

There is good ground for thanksgiving in what you have written, for every good gift comes from the hand of God and the goodness of God is meant to lead you to repentance. You thank Him for your wife, for your children and for the mercies of home, and you do well to give Him glory for these things. Marriage is not a thing of convenience but a covenant ordained of God, a union of one man and one woman for life, cemented by mutual love and choice, wherein the two become one. To cherish your wife as a good friend and a good mother, and to honor the lives entrusted to your care, is to walk in the way which God has appointed.

You speak also of laying in bed with strong drink and talking to yourself, and of a desire to be a better man, a better husband, a better father and a better laborer. This desire after amendment must be weighed with great care. There is a repentance that is of the flesh, after the manner of the sinful nature, which makes many resolutions in its own strength and soon withers. True repentance, that repentance which is unto life, is not the work of the flesh but the gift of God, wrought in the heart by the Holy Spirit, and it always gives God glory. It does not boast in what I will do, but it weeps and abhors past sin because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only.

You say this will be the last time you will ask for help and prayer and forgiveness. Hear, I pray you, that repentance lives as long as faith. It is not an operation to be gotten through once and then forgotten. Sweet sister Repentance is to be our companion all the way to the gates of pearl. The man who has truly repented will repent still more deeply as he sees more of the holiness of God and the preciousness of the blood of Christ. Do not, therefore, put your repenting into the place of Christ, nor trust in your own resolve to make yourself better. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance which ejects sin as an evil tenant is joined to the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. Repentance which pulls down must be joined to faith which builds up.

Our Lord has ordained that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name. This means that where there is true repentance, that godly sorrow for sin which needs not to be repented of, there is also the full and free forgiveness of all sins through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other way of salvation. You must not look to your own amendment to save you, but to Him who died and rose again. True repentance will yield works meet for repentance. It will be practical and it will last. Does it last or does it not, is the test. To turn from drunkenness and idle self talk is right and necessary, and by the grace of God you must put away that cup which has so often mastered you, and give your body and mind to sober and honest labor as unto the Lord. But this practical turning must flow from a heart changed by Christ, not from a vow made in your own strength.

Take then your thankfulness and your sorrow and your desire to be made new, and carry them all to the Lord Jesus. Confess your sin plainly before Him, trust His finished work alone for pardon, and ask Him to give you that repentance which He alone can give. Continue in prayer. Do not cease to ask others to pray for you, for we have need of one another, and do not cease to seek forgiveness as often as you sin, for His mercy is new every morning.

May the Lord grant you to see His goodness in your wife and children and in the very breath you draw, and may that goodness lead you to a hearty turning from sin to Himself. May He keep you sober and watchful, faithful in your home and diligent in your calling, not by your own power but by His Spirit dwelling in you. I pray that He will establish your heart in Christ, forgive you freely for His name's sake, and make you indeed a new man, to the glory of His grace. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Admitting the drinking has gotten the better of you takes real honesty. There's a short spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, prayed over loosening addiction's hold, and you only have to listen. I hope the pull of it starts letting go.
