Dear God thank you for your Son Jesus Christ my lord and Savior. Thank you for not giving up on me and my family. I am really trying to be the best functioning alcoholic that I can be. I choose to drink alcohol every day sometimes before and almost every time after work to cope with or excuse my self from my responsibilities of being a husband and a dad to our adult kid's and a hard worker to help my company succeed. Please continue to soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife. We both still have AUD and I am sorry about that. I am very thankful for having a wife and our adult kid's and a good job and a good home to live in. Please help me be a better husband and a better person and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better worker Bee 🐝! With your help I know that I can do this. If I didn't believe in you and your son I would have given up a long time ago. I'm going to bed now please help me have a good night's sleep tonight with out any more crazy dreams or nightmares or Hallucinatings. Please help me get my projects and proposals done correctly and on time for the next two days. Please help me and my wife to be nice to each other and to help each other and to take care of each other. Good night God. I love you. 🙏

We thank you for sharing your heart so honestly with us and with the Lord, and we join with you in thanking God for His Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and for His mercy that has not given up on you and your family. We hear your thankfulness for your wife, your adult children, your job and your home, and we hear your deep desire to be a better husband, father and worker, and to have peace at night. We are praying with you for all of these things.

We also love you enough to speak the truth to you in love about what you have called being the best functioning alcoholic you can be. The Bible does not teach that there is a way to be a good functioning drunkard, because choosing to drink alcohol every day before and almost every time after work to cope with or to excuse yourself from your responsibilities is not functioning in God's will. We are called to be sober and clear minded, not to be mastered by anything. Proverbs 20:1 says Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Ephesians 5:18 says Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. 1 Peter 5:8 says Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. When we use alcohol to cope and to avoid our God given duties as a husband and father, we are giving the enemy a foothold and we are not loving our wife as Christ loved the church Ephesians 5:25 or providing for and leading our household well 1 Timothy 5:8.

We know you and your wife both struggle with AUD and we are not condemning you, for 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. But we must confess that drunkenness is sin and repent and turn from it, not ask God to simply soften the hearts of bosses, coworkers, customers and especially your wife to tolerate it. 1 Corinthians 6:10 warns that drunkards will not inherit God's Kingdom, not to shame you but to show how serious God is about calling us to freedom. Galatians 5:1 says Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don't be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Jesus wants to free you, not help you manage bondage better. 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. That way of escape is not drinking more carefully, it is turning to Christ and to sober help, pastoral counseling, honest accountability in the church, and also medical help because AUD and hallucinations and nightmares and withdrawal can be dangerous and you should seek qualified medical and counseling support right away.

We are encouraged that you have not given up because you believe in God and His Son. That faith is the foundation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God and forgiveness and power to change, and we praise God you called on His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank you for this husband and father who still believes and still cries out to you. We thank you for his wife, his adult children, his job and his home. Lord we confess on his behalf that drunkenness and using alcohol to escape responsibility is sin, and we ask for your forgiveness and cleansing. Fill him with your Holy Spirit instead of wine, and give him and his wife a true desire and power to turn completely from alcohol and to walk in sobriety. Deliver them from AUD and break every chain. Heal their bodies and minds, take away the crazy dreams, nightmares and hallucinations, and grant them peaceful sleep, for Psalm 4:8 says I will both lay myself down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. Help him to get his projects and proposals done correctly and on time, to be diligent and honest in his work as unto you. Soften hearts where needed, but first transform his heart to be faithful, sober and present. Teach him and his wife to be kind to each other, to help each other and to take care of each other as you designed marriage to be, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman for your glory. Give them strength for the next two days and for each day after, for Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Surround them with godly counsel, medical help and brothers and sisters in Christ who will hold them accountable. Let them know your love and your power to restore. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to take a concrete step today, tell your wife, a pastor, and a trusted sober brother in Christ the full truth, ask them to walk with you daily, remove alcohol from your home, and seek professional help for detox and counseling. God has not given up on you and He will help you be the husband, father and worker He created you to be, but it will be as a sober, Spirit filled man. We are continuing to pray for you and your wife to be nice to each other and to be healed together.

Thank you for sharing so openly with us. We hear both the gratitude you feel for your wife, your kids, your job and home, and the heavy load you are carrying trying to keep everything going while drinking every day to cope and step back from responsibilities.

Wanting to be a better husband, dad, and worker, and wanting you and your wife to be kind and caring toward each other, are good and loving desires. It takes courage to name that alcohol has become your way of coping and that you both are struggling with it.

We are also concerned about the troubled sleep, crazy dreams and hallucinations you mentioned. Those experiences can be distressing and deserve care. Alongside prayer we encourage you to reach out soon to a trusted medical professional or counselor who can listen in person and help you and your wife find safe next steps for your health and for support with alcohol use. You do not have to figure this out alone, and having another person walk with you can make a real difference.

For the next two days at work, it may help to break those projects and proposals into smaller pieces, write down each step with its deadline, and ask a trusted coworker or supervisor to check in with you on progress. At home a simple plan to be kind to each other, like agreeing on a calm time to talk and choosing one daily task to do together to help each other, can be a small steady start.

We are praying for you and will keep praying. We thank God that you still hold to Jesus in this struggle and that He has not given up on you or your family.

Father, we thank You for this brother and his family. Give him rest tonight and peace in his mind, wisdom and clarity for his work these next two days, and gentleness between him and his wife as they care for each other. Lead him to the right help and give him strength for each next step. In Jesus name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect, deliver, heal, save (those not saved) and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. I ask this for them, us and all in need. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Your honest and humble prayer has been heard, and I thank God that you have not given up, for it is His grace that has kept you. You give thanks for Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior, for your wife and your adult children, for a good job and a home, and in this thankfulness there is a true eye which can still receive the look of Jesus.

You speak plainly of choosing to drink every day to cope with and to excuse yourself from the responsibilities of being a husband and a father and a faithful worker, and you confess that both you and your wife struggle with alcohol. Do not think lightly of this confession, for it is the first movement of that bitter, salutary, saving repentance which Christ Himself works in the heart with a look. Remember Peter. He was down, but he was soon up again, and his story is rather his restoration than his fall. That look of Christ severed Peter from the crowd and in an instant an endless work was done. He looked and it was done. So the Lord can do for you. If you still inwardly look to the Crucified, there is something in you to work upon, and He who prayed for Peter prays for you, and He will win His suit with the Father and uplift you from among the siftings where Satan has thrown you.

Yet hear the doctrine of Scripture, that the work of Christ in us does not exempt us from work and service, nor does the Holy Spirit's work supersede human effort, but rather excites it. Paul says, whereunto I also labor, striving. The grace that restores you will not lull you into sloth or help you to remain a functioning alcoholic, a phrase which hides a deep danger. Drink used to cope or to excuse neglect of duty is not a help but a snare that keeps a man from the very work God has given him to do. You pray rightly to be a better husband and father and worker, and that prayer will be answered not by God softening the hearts of others to overlook unfaithfulness, but by God strengthening your hands to be faithful. I must work the works of Him that sent Me while it is day, for the night comes when no man can work. God can afford to wait with His work, but we cannot afford to delay with ours. Therefore seek, in dependence upon Christ, to put away that which hinders love and labor, seeking godly counsel, pastoral help, and medical help for this affliction, for the dreams and hallucinations of which you speak are a solemn warning that the body and mind are suffering and need care.

Concerning your marriage, remember that when God says, I am married unto you, it implies a blessed choice on both sides and a union cemented by mutual love where husband and wife become one. You and your wife are not two persons maintaining separate indulgences, but one flesh called to help and to take care of each other. What a mercy that God has not cast you aside. As with Adam, whom God not only employed to work for Him but with whom He walked in the garden in the cool of the day, so He will confer such fellowship upon you when you are restored. And you will be able to do that kind of work even better than others could, for when anyone is hard upon wanderers you will say, Oh, do not speak so, I know the heart of a wanderer, for I was one myself. So after your restoration you shall strengthen your brethren, and it is a grand proof of being fully restored to the Divine heart when the Lord entrusts you with work to do for His own dear children.

Be encouraged that He will continue His work till He has saved you, and thus encouraged, give diligence to make your calling and election sure. Let your work be true two handed work, throwing your whole strength into it in sobriety and honesty, and then you may pray, Establish the work of our hands for us.

Let us pray together. O Lord God, we thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, and for Your longsuffering that has not given up on this dear soul and his family. Look upon him now as You looked upon Peter, and work repentance and deliverance. Forgive the sin of seeking refuge in drink and neglecting duty, and by Your Holy Spirit create a new desire for sobriety, clarity, and faithful love. Help him and his wife to turn from alcohol and to help one another in holiness, to be kind and tender to each other as befits those joined by You. Grant quiet sleep without terror, healing to body and mind, and guide him to wise and practical help. Give skill and diligence to do his projects and proposals correctly and on time, that his labor may honor You and bless his employer and customers. Restore him fully, employ him in Your service, and walk with him, that he may know such peace and rest with Jesus that he will never wish to wander again. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is able to keep us from falling. Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect, deliver, heal, save (those not saved) and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. I ask this for them, us and all in need. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Thank you so much for your prayers 🙏

Lord Jesus, have mercy on this man and his wife. Free them from alcohol's hold, give him rest tonight, and help him be the husband, father, and worker You call him to be. In Jesus' name. Amen.

You are so kind to pray for me. I'm reading this right now as I am awake and laying in my bed drinking another drink while my adult son is downstairs in his room coughing because he is smoking pot and smokes too many cigarettes and also drinks too many beers. I sleep in a different room from my wife because we do not get along with each other because we both have AUD. I'm sorry to share this with you but I am doing so that I can be honest with another person who I believe can pray for me so that I can change and take better care of my temple and then to be able to take care of my family. I pray for you my friend that God will bless you and help you with your needs. Amen 🙏
