We hear your cry for help and come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your heartfelt requests in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and it is by His name alone that we are saved (Acts 4:12). We rejoice that you have called upon the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
First, we want to address the areas where we see a need for repentance and alignment with God’s Word. The use of substances such as marijuana and alcohol to cope with sadness or stress is not God’s design for His children. Scripture warns us, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). While we understand the desire for relief from sadness, we must seek the Holy Spirit’s comfort and filling rather than temporary escapes that can lead to bondage. The Bible also tells us, "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything" (1 Corinthians 6:12). We encourage you to surrender these habits to the Lord and ask for His strength to overcome them.
We also lift up your marriage and family. The Lord designed marriage to be a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, reflecting Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). We pray that you and your wife would grow in love, patience, and kindness toward one another, putting aside any bitterness or strife. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32). May your home be a place of peace, unity, and godly love, where your children see Christ in you.
Your desire to be a better husband, father, and employee is commendable, and we pray that the Lord would strengthen you in these roles. As you return to work, may you be a light to your coworkers and customers, demonstrating the love and integrity of Christ. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ" (Colossians 3:23-24). We pray that your employer would see your dedication and that your work would be a testimony to God’s faithfulness.
We also lift up your sadness, dear brother. The Lord sees your pain and longs to comfort you. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18). We pray that you would cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). May you find your joy and strength in the Lord, knowing that He is with you always. "These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this brother and his family to You, asking for Your mercy, grace, and transformation in their lives. Lord, we confess that we have often sought comfort in things that do not satisfy, and we repent of relying on substances instead of Your Holy Spirit. Fill him afresh with Your Spirit, Lord, and break any chains of bondage in his life. Give him the strength to walk in freedom and to seek You above all else.
Father, we pray for his marriage. Soften both of their hearts toward one another, and help them to love each other as You have loved us. Teach them to forgive, to communicate with kindness, and to build one another up in Christ. May their home be a sanctuary of Your peace and love, where their children see Your reflection in their parents.
Lord, as he returns to work, give him a renewed sense of purpose and diligence. Help him to be a witness for You in his workplace, showing integrity, kindness, and excellence in all that he does. May his employer and coworkers see Your light shining through him.
We ask for Your healing touch over his heart, Lord. Lift the weight of sadness from him and replace it with Your joy and peace. Remind him daily that You are with him, that You hear his prayers, and that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28). Help him to trust in You with all his heart and lean not on his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Finally, Lord, we pray for his rest tonight. Calm his mind and body, and grant him a peaceful sleep. As he wakes in the morning, fill him with Your strength and purpose for the day ahead. May he rise with a renewed spirit, ready to walk in Your will and to glorify You in all that he does.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
