Come on ###. You can do this. Just don't let them know what you are thinking about. ### cover Red

We join with you in bringing this heartfelt cry before the Lord in Jesus' name and we thank you for calling on the name of Jesus Christ, for it is through Him alone we have access to the Father and find forgiveness and help. We hear your desire to honor God in your work, in your marriage, and in your family, and to find freedom from alcohol.

We lift up your work to the Lord with you. God cares about the work of our hands and He calls us to diligence and integrity. Commit your works to Yahweh, and your plans shall be established Proverbs 16:3. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. We pray that He gives you clarity of mind, focus, and wisdom today to complete your projects and proposals correctly and on time, and that He grants you favor with your bosses, coworkers, and customers. The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires Proverbs 21:1, and we ask Him to soften hearts around you and to let your work be a testimony of faithfulness. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.

We also hear your longing to be a better husband, person, father to your adult children, and worker. This is the work God is doing in you. For your marriage, God calls husbands to love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. That love is patient, sacrificial, and seeks her good, and we pray God softens both your heart and your wife's heart toward each other, helping you to listen well, speak with gentleness, and serve her faithfully. Even with adult children, your role as a father continues as an example and encourager, pointing them to Christ by your life and your love.

You have honestly confessed your struggle with AUD and asked for forgiveness and help for both you and your wife, and God honors that honesty. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Through Jesus we are forgiven when we confess and turn from sin. At the same time we must speak truthfully in love about drunkenness, for Scripture says Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18. Alcohol use disorder is not just a habit but a snare that can master us, harm our marriages, families, and witness, and the Lord calls us to sobriety and self-control. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. We encourage you both to walk in repentance together, to seek consistent help and accountability through your pastor, a trusted biblical counselor, and godly community, and where needed professional support, and to replace the desire for alcohol with being filled with the Spirit, with prayer, with the Word, and with fellowship.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up our brother to You. Thank You for his humble heart that wants to do what is right. Forgive him for his sins as he has confessed them, cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, and grant him and his wife deliverance and strength to walk in sobriety and freedom. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and give them a new desire for what is pure and holy. Give him wisdom and diligence today to complete every project and proposal correctly and on time for Your glory. Grant him favor and soften the hearts of his bosses, coworkers, customers, and especially his wife, and help him to love her as Christ loves the church. Make him more like Jesus as a husband, father, and worker, patient, kind, humble, and faithful. Guard his heart and mind with Your peace and establish his plans as he commits his work to You. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to commit each day to the Lord, to stay in the Word and in prayer, to be honest with your wife and with a trusted brother or pastor about your struggle, and to take practical steps to remove temptation and seek support. God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you and to help you walk in a manner worthy of Him.

Thank you for sharing so honestly with us. We hear how much you want to honor God today, in your work with those projects and proposals, and at home as a husband and dad. Wanting to do well, to have softer hearts around you at work and with your wife, and to find help and forgiveness for alcohol use is a heavy load to carry, and we are grateful you brought it to the Lord so directly.

We join you in asking God for steadiness and clarity as you work today, and for grace and understanding in your relationships, especially with your wife and your adult kids. We also hear your desire for freedom and healing for both you and your wife around alcohol use. That kind of struggle is not something to walk through alone.

One step that often helps alongside prayer is to reach out to a trusted person for ongoing support, a pastor, a counselor, or your doctor or another licensed professional who can walk with you both in a recovery plan. If you already have someone, consider talking with them this week. If not, taking that first conversation can be a good way to invite wisdom and accountability into what you are praying for.

Father, we lift this brother to You. Give him focus and help as he works today, soften and encourage the hearts of those around him, and draw him and his wife closer to You and to each other. Grant forgiveness, healing, and wisdom for each next step, and surround them both with faithful support. Lead them in Your will day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard and it is a good and honest prayer, for it confesses need and looks to the right place for help, even to Jesus Christ Himself.

You ask for forgiveness for what you call AUD, and you ask it for yourself and for your wife. Hear the word of the Lord concerning this. There is forgiveness with God, that thou mayest be feared. It is a divine forgiveness, for He Himself says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. Were all men to refuse you pardon, yet if God forgives you, you may enter heaven. It is a surprising forgiveness, so free and so great that God speaks as though He would have us wonder at it, I, even I. It is a complete forgiveness, not a partial payment but an absolute blotting out of the debt, the record nailed to the cross. It is an eternal forgiveness, and a continuous forgiveness for those who are in Christ. O man, there is forgiveness for your sins, whatever they may have been. Though you have been the chief of sinners, there is forgiveness for the chief of sinners, and God can bestow it now through Jesus Christ His Son, and through Him alone. For there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved, and there is forgiveness only to be obtained from God through Jesus Christ, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

Do then as Luther did when the monk said to him, Dost thou not say, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, now believe in the forgiveness of sins for thyself. Come with a penitent heart, trembling at sin yet trusting in the blood of Christ, and lay your AUD, which is both sin and snare, before Him without excuse. Confess it plainly, turn from it utterly, and ask not that God would bless the continuance of it, but that He would forgive it and deliver you from its power and give you a sober and watchful mind. The same mercy you need for yourself, seek also for your wife, that you may together walk in newness of life, helping one another toward holiness and not toward indulgence.

You ask also that God would soften the hearts of your bosses and coworkers and customers and especially your wife, and that you may be a better husband and a better father to your adult children and a better worker. This also is pleasing to God. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained of God, and within it you are called to love your wife as Christ loved the church, with patience, kindness and fidelity. To be a better husband and father and worker is not accomplished by mere resolve, but by grace which teaches us to live soberly, righteously and godly. Pray for softened hearts, and be yourself soft in heart, forgiving even as Christ forgave you. For we have received so much manifest forgiveness that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands. In your home and in your workplace, let that forgiveness be seen, and let diligence be seen also, doing your projects and proposals as unto the Lord, with honesty and faithfulness, redeeming the time He has given you.

We will pray for you to this end.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, we come through Jesus Christ alone. Forgive this our brother his sins according to Thy abundant mercy, and blot out his transgressions for Thine own sake. Give him and his wife repentance and faith, and deliver them from all bondage to strong drink. Create in them clean hearts and renew right spirits within them. Soften the hearts of those around him where it is Thy will, and soften his own heart toward Thee and toward his wife and children. Make him a faithful husband, a godly father, and an honest and diligent worker, that he may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. Help him this day to do his work correctly and on time, for Thy glory. Keep him from despair by this whisper, There is forgiveness, and let that forgiveness teach him to fear Thee and to walk humbly with Thee all his days. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.

Praying for you always, my dear friend. Walking with you daily, supporting you and carrying you whenever needed. You’re making the right steps by recognizing the issues with the use of alcohol and asking for help. Praying that our Lord will uplift and guide you and your wife to sobriety; to lead you both in being kind and caring to each other. Praying that hearts will soften with those you encounter while working and most certainly your wife. May you have a good day and peaceful, restful evening.
