Dear God thank you for helping me to be a better husband and a better person and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better employee and thank you for touching the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife. I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow morning to be a good person and a good project manager and a good estimator and to help my company successful. I'm so grateful for the life that I have had. Thank you for my life and my experience. You rock God. Have I ever told you how much I love you ! Please help my wife and our adult kid's and my coworkers and my customers and my employer. I'm laying on my bed drinking alcohol and having a slice of pizza and I am watching NASCAR on my TV in my man cave upstairs in my bed room. I thank you so much.

The Bible tells us, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18). However, we must address a concern with love and truth. While it is not inherently sinful to enjoy a drink or a moment of relaxation, Scripture warns us about the dangers of alcohol when it becomes a habit or leads to excess. "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1). More importantly, as believers, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to honor God in all we do, even in our moments of rest. If drinking has become a regular part of your routine, we encourage you to prayerfully consider whether it aligns with God’s best for you.

We also want to affirm your desire to be a godly husband, father, and employee. Your commitment to excellence in these roles is commendable, and we pray that the Lord continues to strengthen and guide you. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23). May your actions at home and at work always reflect the love and integrity of Christ.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for this brother in Christ. Lord, we thank You for the way You have blessed him with a loving family, meaningful work, and a heart that seeks to honor You. We ask that You continue to mold him into the husband, father, and employee You have called him to be. Give him wisdom in his decisions, strength in his responsibilities, and joy in his service to You.

Father, we also lift up his wife and children to You. May Your Spirit draw them closer to You and to one another. Bless their relationships with love, patience, and unity. We pray for his coworkers, customers, and employer, that You would soften their hearts to receive the light of Christ through his testimony.

Lord, we ask that You help him to honor You in all areas of his life, including his moments of rest. Those natural, commonplace duties which grow out of holy instincts within are the best evidence of a work of Grace! The more genuinely natural and unstrained the better. Peter’s wife’s mother in ministering to Christ proved her own gratitude. Brethren, if we need to evidence our gratitude to Christ we had better do it in the same way as she did. Better far will it be if the more we know the more we watch and pray. We are in danger of falling, not only some of us, but all of us! Not merely the weak, but also the strong. Not the young only, but the old and the middle-aged. Surely there is nothing better for a man of God than to perceive that his smarts and sorrows come from his Father’s hand, for then he will say, “The will of the Lord be done.” If they prospered, they were ‘lucky’; this was instead of gratitude to God. Many a time you have expressed your gratitude to a friend when he has said, “I will do so-and-so for you.”

The fatherhood of God is common to all his children. Ah! Little-faith, you have often looked up to Mr. Great-heart, and you have said, “Oh that I had the courage of Great-heart.” But mark, if he be a child he cannot lose his childship, nor we our fatherhood, be he who or what he may. Like our Lord, every child of God is immortal till his work is done. If you are commissioned of God to do a good work, give your whole heart to it, trust in the Lord and you will not fail! The wife gives to her husband her whole self, let us give to our loving God our whole spirit, soul and body! There is the test of your position, if you do the devil’s dirty work, you are his servant.

Oh, men and brethren, let us bow ourselves in dust and ashes before God; let us turn pride out to-night if we can; but it will be hard work. They know from Scripture that even their afflictions are working for their good, yet they do not rejoice in the prospect, or feel any gratitude for the refining process through which the Lord is passing them. These people declared the goodness of God among the saints. When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord. Of old have You laid the foundations of the earth: and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

I see you giving thanks with a glad heart, and that is good. The tongue that blesses God for His mercies is a tongue that pleases Him. Yet I notice you are lying on your bed, drinking wine and eating, enjoying the race. Tell me, my friend, is this the posture of a soul that is truly watchful? You thank God for helping you be a better husband and father, and that is a precious fruit. But the enemy often steals these very moments of ease to plant the seeds of carelessness. When you say, "You rock, God," I rejoice that you love Him. But I ask you: Does your love for Him show itself in a sober mind, or does the cup in your hand cloud the spirit that should be wholly His?

The Apostle spoke of love that abounds in knowledge and all discernment, so that we may approve what is excellent and be sincere and without offense. If you truly long to love your wife, your children, and your neighbor as Christ loves, then do not let the flesh gain any ground. A little relaxation becomes a flood if we do not stand firm. You have a man-cave, you say? The heart must be a cave for Christ, not for comfort that dulls the senses. I do not forbid you to eat or to rest, but I remind you that our Master said, "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation." It is possible to thank God with the lips while the heart wanders far from Him, warmed by wine rather than by the tender mercies of Christ.

You ask for help for your family and those you work with. This is holy. But remember that he who confesses thanks to God for what he suffers, and for the strength to do His will, will also be quick to examine himself. Do not think that because you have been a better employee or husband, you can now rest comfortably. We are debtors every hour. The love of Paul made him long for the saints with a holy fire, not with the lukewarm affection that sits content with a full belly. Stir up that love in yourself. Let your gratitude be not only in happy words, but in a life that flees from even the shadow of excess.

So I say: Thank God, and go to work tomorrow with a pure intention. But also, tonight, pour out that drink as an offering of a sound mind, and let your man-cave become a place of prayer. Wrestle like Jacob, not lounge like one who has already obtained the prize. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sober mind. Guard that sober mind, that when the end comes you may be found watching, not distracted by pizza and NASCAR, as good as those things might be in their proper place. Love your wife and children by first loving God with an undivided heart. Then your joy will be genuine, and your thanksgiving will rise like incense without the smoke of self-indulgence.

When you have tasted that freedom, you cannot help but want to share it, to live it out in the way you manage your projects, interact with your customers, and love your family. That desire to be a blessing tomorrow morning at your workplace is exactly the kind of witness that flows from a grateful heart. You do not need a script or a class; you are simply living out what the Lord has done for you.

The growth you are experiencing is like the seed Jesus spoke about. Inside that seed is all the coded information necessary to produce a full, mature plant. When you were born again, the very life of God was planted within you, and that life contains everything you need to become the man God designed you to be. Much of this growth happens without you even noticing it, day by day, as you simply trust the Father to bless you because you know He loves you. So do not be anxious about your progress. The One who began a good work in you will carry it to completion.

Your love for your wife and your adult children is precious, and it is right to thank God for touching their hearts. But remember that there is a bond even deeper than the natural family bond. Jesus once looked at the crowd around Him and asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” He was not dismissing His family; He was opening the door to a greater reality. Those who do the will of the Father become part of a family of God that is closer and more enduring than any tie of blood. When we are one together in Christ, we experience a love and fellowship that the world cannot give. I pray you and your household grow deeper in that spiritual family, loving each other not just as relatives but as brothers and sisters in the Lord.

A man once rebelled completely against God and against his family. He fell deep into a life of crime and ruin. But a year later, he stood up, a transformed man, and said, “Look at me now.” That same power is at work in you. Whatever past mistakes may have weighed on you, the grace of God has washed them away. You are not defined by former failures but by the righteousness of Christ given to you. So enjoy the simple gifts He has placed before you tonight, the pizza, the rest, the race on the television. These are tokens of His kindness. Yet always hold them with a gentle heart, knowing that even one careless moment can set a course toward consequences we never intended. Walk in wisdom, for your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and every area of your life is an offering to Him.

Finally, think of that woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years. She was weakened, ostracized from family and from the worship of God. Her condition was only getting worse. But though her body was weakening, her determination was not. She pressed through the crowd, reached out, and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment. In that moment, she was made whole. That same Jesus is with you now, not because you have earned His attention, but because He loves you. You are not ostracized; you are a son. You are not weakening; you are being renewed day by day. May you continue to press into Him, trusting that every good thing you long to be flows from His life in you. May He use you mightily to spread the sweet aroma of His grace through your home, your workplace, and everywhere you go.
