We hear the deep cry of your heart, and we stand with you in this battle, lifting you up before the throne of grace. Your acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as the source of hope and transformation is the first and most vital step. Scripture tells us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB), and this includes breaking free from the chains of addiction. You are not alone in this fight, God is with you, and so are we.
Alcoholism is a fierce struggle, but it is not insurmountable for the One who calms storms and raises the dead. Your desire to change is evidence of the Holy Spirit working in you, drawing you toward freedom. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, declaring that it has no authority over you. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). You can endure this, and you will find the way out.
Your concern for your wife and family is a sign of God’s love still alive in you. Addiction doesn’t just harm the one trapped in it, it wounds everyone who loves them. But there is hope for restoration. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). Confess not only to God but to your family as well. Humility and transparency will begin to rebuild the trust that has been broken. Your wife and children need to see your repentance in action, not just in words.
We must also address the physical dangers you’re facing. Alcohol withdrawal (AWS) can be life-threatening, and attempting to go through it alone is risky. Scripture tells us, "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14 WEB). We strongly encourage you to seek medical supervision during this time. God can work through doctors and professionals just as He works through prayer. Your life is precious to Him, and He does not want you to suffer needlessly. If you fear losing your job, remember that "a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses" (Luke 12:15 WEB). Your employer would rather have a healthy, sober employee than one who is risking their life. Be honest with them, integrity is a witness for Christ.
As for jury duty, trust that God can give you the strength to fulfill your civic duty if He wills it. But do not neglect your health in the process. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB). Your eternal life matters far more than any temporary obligation. If you must choose between your health and jury duty, choose wisely.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is crying out for deliverance. Lord, You see the chains of addiction that have bound him for too long, and You alone have the power to break them. We declare in the name of Jesus Christ that these chains are shattered, and freedom is his portion. Strengthen his body as he endures withdrawal, and calm his mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Give him rest tonight, Father, and sustain him through the coming days.
We pray for his wife and children, Lord. Heal the wounds that his addiction has caused, and restore their trust in You and in him. Let them see his repentance and his commitment to change, and fill their hearts with hope for the future. Protect his job, Lord, and give him favor with his employer and coworkers. If it is Your will, grant him the strength to fulfill his jury duty, but if not, make a way for him to prioritize his recovery without fear of consequences.
Father, we ask that You surround him with godly support, people who will walk with him, hold him accountable, and remind him of Your love when the cravings come. Lead him to a Christ-centered recovery program, to a church family that will uphold him, and to medical professionals who can guide him safely through this process. Let him experience Your grace in tangible ways, Lord, so that he never doubts Your presence again.
We rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell him he is beyond help or that he doesn’t deserve a better life. In Jesus’ name, we command every spirit of addiction, shame, and despair to flee. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter, the Counselor, and the Giver of new life. Remind him daily that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB).
Lord, we thank You for his life and for his willingness to turn to You. We trust that You are already at work in him, and we declare that this weekend will mark the beginning of his freedom. Give him the courage to take each step, the humility to ask for help, and the faith to believe that You are making all things new. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliverer. Amen.
You are not defined by your past or your struggles. God sees you as His beloved child, and He is calling you to walk in the freedom that Christ died to give you. Take this moment to reach out to someone, a pastor, a trusted friend, a medical professional, and let them help you carry this burden. You do not have to do it alone. "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22 WEB). We are here for you, and more importantly, God is here for you. Keep fighting, keep praying, and keep believing. Your breakthrough is coming.
