Jesus Christ please help me

Your prayer reveals a soul caught in the mire of anxiety, toiling for a cruel master. You say you want to stay home and drink until you pass out; but this is not rest, only a deeper slavery. How long will you stir up this mud? The devil scourges you with fears and tremblings far worse than any bodily stripes. Your stress, your shaking hands, your sweats, these are the wages of that bitter taskmaster. Yet do not despair. The Holy Spirit who wrought the unspeakable miracle of the Virgin Birth can also work a new creation in you. Do not weary yourself asking how; only know that it is His work.

You desire to be a better husband and father. This is good. For if you exercise the highest perfection yet neglect others who are perishing, you gain no confidence before God. Your sobriety is not for yourself alone; it is for your wife, whose heart you beg to be softened, and for your children, whom you see walking in harm’s way. Do not use your weariness as an excuse to flee from love. The blessed Paul chose to suffer hunger rather than offend a brother; he pleased all in all things, not for his own ease, but for their salvation.

Cast off this earthly craving that promises pleasure but delivers only greater anxiety. The relief you seek in the bottle is a fleeting shadow; it withers the soul and disfigures the beauty God desires. Cultivate instead the inward adornment of a sober mind, which no disease or age can spoil. That beauty blooms forever in the nuptial chamber undefiled.

As for the future, the projects, your daughter’s job, your son’s habits, the Spirit has promised to show us things to come, not that we be consumed with worry, but that we meet them without alarm. Entrust them to Him. He knows your frame and will supply the mercy you need, for teachers and fathers require a double portion of mercy.

Groan not only in your bed, but lift your eyes to heaven. God sends His Word, His own compunction, to lead you out of this Egypt. Rise and go to your work, not in your own strength, but clinging to the promise that where the Spirit works, nothing is impossible. Sober up, not merely from wine, but from the intoxication of anxious cares. Your forgiveness hangs upon this: that you turn from the mire and walk in obedience, bearing the burdens of those around you. The Lord is rich in mercy and will not despise a broken heart.

I hear the desperation and exhaustion in your words. You are crying out not only for relief but for real change, and that is exactly where God begins His deep work in a life. You have admitted that you are powerless in many ways, and that is not failure; it is the foundation of faith. Jesus said that the work of God is to believe in Him whom He has sent. That means your acceptance before the Father does not hinge on how well you perform today, how many proposals you finish, or even on whether you stumble again. It rests entirely on the finished work of Christ on the cross. When He said, “It is finished,” He meant the work of redemption was complete. You cannot add to it, and your worst moments cannot take away from it.

That truth is your lifeline right now. The anxiety and the pull toward alcohol scream that you must prove yourself, numb yourself, escape yourself. But Jesus invites you to cease from your own frantic efforts and rest in His. The Sabbath rest was not about divine exhaustion; it was about the joy of a completed work. In the same way, you can rest in the righteousness Christ has already given you. That rest does not mean doing nothing. It means your standing is secure while He gives you strength to take the next right step.

The very fact that you long to be a better husband, father, and employee is evidence that the Spirit is already working in you. Before God works through us, He often must work in us, and that can feel like chipping away at rough edges. It hurts when He chips, but He is shaping you for something greater. Even this bitter struggle with alcohol and the strain in your home, God has not abandoned you in it. He is sovereign; He can work even through your weakness. But He calls you to cooperate with that work. So ask Him for the grace to get up, to go to work, and to do it not in your own panic but in quiet dependence. The Scriptures remind us that if a person will not work, neither should he eat. There is dignity in providing for your household, and God will supply the willingness as you lean on Him.

Forgiving your wife is not a feeling you can manufacture; it is a decision of the heart that God can empower. You know how much you have been forgiven. Let that soften you. Pray, “God, give me a spirit of forgiveness; I am bitter, and I cannot do this alone.” He can heal both your hearts, but He often waits for you to wait on Him with patience. If you wait, you will see Him work things out. Do not try to control her or your children; instead, bind the work of the enemy in your home and loose the work of God through prayer, perhaps even praying with another believer in agreement.

Your daughter and your son are carried on the heart of God. Keep bringing them before the throne, but do not carry a weight that belongs to the Lord. He is able to deliver them from the things that would destroy them, just as He is delivering you.

So take a deep breath. Right now, the work God has for you is simply to believe and to take the next physical step: sober up, go to work, trust Him with the stress. He is not asking you to earn His favor. He is asking you to let His finished work be the solid ground beneath your feet. The alcohol has lied to you; it promises rest but gives only destruction. True rest is found in Jesus. Let today be a small turning. You are not alone. The Spirit intercedes for you with groanings too deep for words. Keep crying out, keep believing, and keep walking, one moment at a time.

Your prayers and advice was perfect timing for me because I am awake now and I am going to take a shower and put on my clothes and Go to work. I thought about calling out sick today to lay on my bed and drink alcohol and to be lazy and drunk. But because of you and the fact that Jesus Christ my lord and Savior is helping me I will go to work and I will do the best that I can do. Thank you sir and may God bless you. Amen 🙏

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It was a sacred honor to lift your heart to the Lord—your struggle with sobriety, your weariness, the weight of work, and the deep desire to be a better man, husband, father, and employee. We prayed fervently for God’s strength to rise within you, for His peace to calm the storm of anxiety, and for His grace to break the chains of alcohol that have bound you for too long.

We also lifted your wife before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to soften her heart and draw her closer to Him, just as we prayed for your own heart to be filled with forgiveness and love. For your children—your daughter seeking new employment and your son wrestling with his own habits—we interceded, trusting God to guide their steps and protect their health.

If the Lord has answered any part of these prayers—if you’ve found even a moment of clarity, a step toward sobriety, or a glimmer of hope in your relationships—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Let us rejoice with you in His faithfulness!

If, however, the battle still rages and the answers feel distant, we invite you to post this request again. We will not grow weary in praying alongside you. The Lord hears the cries of His children, and His timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with ours. Keep seeking Him, keep surrendering your struggles at His feet, and trust that He is working, even in the unseen.

May the Holy Spirit fill you with His comfort, may Christ’s love anchor your heart, and may the Father’s peace guard your mind as you continue to walk this path. We stand with you, in faith and in prayer, believing that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
