Servant of All
Dear God please help me at work today and for the rest of the week. Please help me to not have any AUD and AWS. Please keep my hands from shaking and my head from sweating. Please help me to not be scared at work today and to not have any stress and anxiety. Please soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife. Please help me be a better person and a better employee and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's. Please help my control my AUD and my thoughts about being a alcoholic. Please me not throw up today at work and please forgive me for my AUD. Why do I have to live like this. Please help me change to be nice to my self and to my wife. I really don't want to go back to work today I would rather stay home in bed and drink alcohol and pretend that it's going to be okay. But I will loose my job if I don't get back to work and my coworkers and my customers and especially my boss will be very upset with me. It's too much stress doing this job. Please help me have a better life and a much easier way to do my work. Please help me get to work today and to not be late today and please help me get my projects and proposals done correctly and on time. Please don't let me shake and sweat anymore. I'm sorry that I have been not thinking properly. Please help me and please forgive me. I'm scared

We hear the deep struggle in your heart, and we want you to know that you are not alone. The pain, fear, and shame you’re carrying are heavy burdens, but they are not too heavy for the Lord to bear. You’ve already taken the first step by crying out to Him, this is where healing begins. The fact that you’re reaching out in honesty, even in your exhaustion, shows that God is at work in you. We stand with you in prayer, lifting every word of your request to the Father, who sees you, loves you, and is ready to restore you.

First, we must address the weight of alcohol in your life. Scripture is clear: "Do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 WEB). The struggle with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is not just a physical battle, it’s a spiritual one. The enemy wants to keep you trapped in cycles of shame, isolation, and self-medication, but Jesus came to set you free. "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed" (Luke 4:18 WEB). You are not defined by your struggle. You are defined by the One who died to break its power over you.

Your request reveals a heart that longs for change, not just for sobriety, but for transformation in your marriage, your fatherhood, your work, and your self-perception. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, and He is faithful to complete it. But we must also speak truth in love: the path to healing requires surrender. You cannot white-knuckle your way through this. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB), but this strength comes when we stop relying on our own efforts and instead cling to Him. The temptation to stay in bed, to numb the pain with alcohol, or to withdraw from responsibility is real, but it is not God’s will for you. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). The "way of escape" may look like reaching out to a trusted brother in Christ, joining a biblical recovery group, or even seeking professional help. It may mean confessing your struggle to your wife and asking for her support. Whatever it is, God will provide it, but you must take the step.

Your fear of work, the physical symptoms of withdrawal, and the anxiety about your performance are all valid concerns, but they are not the end of your story. "Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). The Lord knows the pressure you’re under, and He does not condemn you for feeling overwhelmed. But He also calls you to trust Him in the midst of it. "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30 WEB). This is not a call to passivity, it’s a call to exchange your heavy burden for His. The work will still be there, but you will not be carrying it alone.

We must also speak to the condition of your heart toward yourself and your wife. You’ve asked for forgiveness, and we want to remind you that "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB). But forgiveness is not just a one-time act, it’s a daily choice to walk in the freedom Christ has given you. You mentioned wanting to "be nice" to yourself and your wife. This is a godly desire, but true kindness flows from a heart that is secure in Christ. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit" (Romans 8:1 WEB). You are not your mistakes. You are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and your identity is found in Him, not in your failures.

Your marriage and your role as a husband and father are sacred responsibilities. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). This kind of love is not passive, it requires sacrifice, humility, and a willingness to change. Your wife needs to see your commitment to healing, not just for your sake, but for the sake of your marriage. We pray that God will soften her heart toward you, but we also encourage you to take tangible steps to rebuild trust. This may mean transparency about your struggle, accountability in your sobriety, and a renewed dedication to leading your family spiritually.

Now, we lift you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is crying out for help. Lord, You see the depths of his struggle, his fear, his shame, his physical and emotional pain. You know the weight of the battle he’s facing, and we ask that You would meet him right where he is. Father, we declare that Your grace is sufficient for him, and Your power is made perfect in his weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life and replace his desire for alcohol with a hunger for Your presence.

Lord, we pray for his physical body. Calm the shaking, ease the sweating, and settle his nerves. Give him the strength to get to work today and the focus to complete his tasks with excellence. Soften the hearts of his bosses, coworkers, and customers so that they would extend grace and understanding. But more than that, Lord, we pray that You would give him favor and open doors for a new season, one where his work is not a source of stress, but a place where he can thrive and glorify You.

Father, we lift up his marriage. Heal the wounds that have been caused by his struggle, and restore intimacy, trust, and joy to his relationship with his wife. Give her a spirit of compassion and patience, and help her to see the man You are shaping him to be. Lord, we pray that their home would be a place of peace, where Your love is the foundation.

We ask that You would renew his mind. Replace the lies of the enemy, "You’ll never change," "You’re not good enough," "You’re a failure", with the truth of Your Word. Remind him that he is Your beloved son, that You are for him, and that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28). Give him the courage to seek help, to walk in accountability, and to take the next right step, no matter how small.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name. We declare that our brother is not a slave to alcohol, he is a child of the Most High God, and greater is He who is in him than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We pray that You would fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he would know Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and that he would experience the joy of his salvation restored (Psalm 51:12).

Finally, Father, we ask that You would give him hope. Not just for today, but for the future. Show him that his life has purpose, that his pain has a redemptive end, and that You are making all things new. Help him to see that his struggle is not in vain, that through his testimony, others may come to know Your healing power.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who has conquered sin and death, and the One who is making all things new. Amen.

You are not alone in this. The road to recovery is not easy, but it is worth it. We encourage you to find a biblical community, a church, a men’s group, or a recovery program, that can walk with you. You do not have to fight this battle by yourself. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB). Reach out to someone today. Take the next step. And remember: God is not finished with you yet. He is making a way where there seems to be no way. Keep your eyes on Him.

Brother, we hear the exhaustion and fear in your words, the dread of walking back into that building, the shame of shaking and sweating, the longing to just stay in bed and silence it all with a drink. That's a heavy weight to carry, and we're not going to pretend it's small. What you're describing isn't moral weakness; it's a body and mind caught in a cycle that feels impossible to break alone, and the fact that you're still reaching out, still asking God for help, tells us something true about you.

Right now, the physical symptoms you mentioned, the shaking, the sweating, the fear of throwing up, these are signs your body is under enormous strain. That kind of withdrawal warning merits a doctor's attention, not just prayer. Please, make an appointment today or go to an urgent care clinic. A physician can assess what's happening physically and discuss safe options with you. There is no shame in that; it's wisdom.

As you face the workday, break it into the smallest possible pieces. Don't focus on the whole week or every project; just look at what the next hour requires. When your hands tremble, step into a restroom, splash cold water on your face, breathe slowly, and silently speak Jesus' name. You don't have to feel brave; you just have to move through this hour.

The heaviness behind your words, "Why do I have to live like this", that question deserves more than just getting through today. Once you've connected with a doctor, consider reaching for structured support, a group or counselor who understands addiction, so you're not fighting this in isolation.

We're praying with you now.

Lord Jesus, this man is scared and tired, and You see him. Steady his hands, quiet the nausea, and calm the racing thoughts that tell him he won't make it. Surround him with some mercy at work today, a kind word, a manageable pace, a boss whose heart You've softened. Protect his job and his dignity. Forgive him as he asks, and gently lift his eyes toward the help he needs to walk a different road. We ask this in Your name alone. Amen.

There is forgiveness. This is the cry that must first still your shaking hands and quiet your sweating brow. You have cried out for mercy, and the word from the throne of grace is plain, there is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared. Not the fear of a slave cowering before a harsh master, but the holy awe of a pardoned child who has been cleansed through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. You are scared because you see the chains, but the liberating truth stands before you: forgiveness is to be obtained from God through Jesus Christ, His Son. He does not simply patch up the rags of your own resolve; He blots out the whole debt. Come now, and believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself.

That dread of returning to work, the terror of your boss and the eyes of your customers, the very anxiety that makes you want to hide in bed with a bottle, it is not the lord of your soul. The forgiveness of God is the master key that unlocks the prison of that fear. Why does forgiveness cause men to fear God rightly? Because once a soul knows it is fully pardoned for Christ's sake, it begins to love and fear with a filial, tender awe the One who forgives. You are anxious to run away, but that is where the forgiveness is, with God. The very same God into whose court your offense has come is the God who pronounces you forgiven. That guilt which makes you tremble is the very threshold where grace meets you. Do not wait to feel better before you believe you are forgiven; believe you are forgiven, and a sweet fear, the whole of true piety, will begin to grow in your soul.

You ask why you must live like this. See that the forgiveness which comes through Christ is not merely a word for the past, but healing for the present. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The very least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. Your shaking limbs, the sickness that grips you, the thoughts that haunt you about alcohol, these are the disease, but His forgiveness is the medicine. So lay your case before Him with all its loathsomeness, and by prayer bring yourself beneath His healing touch. He said to a poor paralyzed man, "Man, your sins are forgiven you," and only then did He say, "Rise up and walk." First forgiveness, then healing. He forgives the sin, and then He sends strength to the sinews and steadiness to the hands.

Cast all this anxiety upon Him, for He cares for you. The very worry that has wrapped itself around your heart is the thing that unfits you to meet the day. I charge you, play the man and let your faith overcome your fear. The Lord who forgives is the Lord who orders your day. You are attempting to soften the hearts of your wife and bosses by your own power, but bring your own hard heart and fears to Christ first. A forgiven man becomes a forgiving man. Some of us have had so much manifest sin forgiven, that for us to be gentle ought to be as natural as opening our hands. As you receive the eternal forgiveness, a full, continuous, divine remission, the Spirit will plant in you new life-blood. He will affect your very spirits and make your nature other than it was before.

Set your face then for your workplace, not in your own strength, but as a man to whom God has said, "I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions." There is forgiveness with Him. Let this whisper drive away despair. The fear that is worth having comes afterwards, as the fruit of pardoned sin. Your sin may seem surprising to you, but not to Him who declares, "There is forgiveness." Go now, forgiven, to fear Him, and to find each duty touched with grace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You cry out to God in your distress, and rightly so, for He alone can deliver you from the pit you have dug with your own hands. But why do you fear the shaking of your body more than the shaking of your soul? Why do you dread the sweat on your brow more than the fire that never dies? You are terrified of your boss, your customers, your wife, those who can wound your pride and your livelihood, but cannot touch the soul. Yet you lie down willingly before a tyrant far more cruel: the bottle that promises comfort and gives only deeper anguish. This is not living; it is a kind of death wrapped in false peace.

You ask, “Why do I have to live like this?” But you already know the answer. You have been building for Pharaoh, making bricks of anxiety, drinking the cup of devils while hoping for the Lord’s cup. How can the two mix? The very thing you clutch to escape your fear only feeds it. The shaking, the sweating, the sickness: these are the whips of your true taskmaster. But if you will groan from the heart, God will send not Moses, but His own Word, sharper than any two-edged sword, to cut you free. Do not despise this present affliction; let it drive you to your knees, not to your bed.

You want your wife’s heart softened, your coworkers merciful, your hands steady. These are good things, but seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, and these will be added. Yet you cannot wait for the feelings to change before you move. You must flee. When temptation whispers that staying home in bed with drink will make it all okay, remember: the Lord says, “Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Let that holy fear drown out the cowardly fear that keeps you from your duty. Go to your work, not because you are strong, but because you trust that Christ is stronger than your terror. Endure the shaking; endure the pounding heart; offer it to God as a sacrifice. The workman is worthy of his hire, and your labor can become a prayer if you offer it in repentance.

You have been scourged long enough by anxiety, far more grievous stripes than any lash on the back. But the beauty of the body fades, ages, and is destroyed by such worry. Cultivate instead the beauty of a soul adorned with self-control, humility, and trust. That beauty never withers, no disease can touch it, and even the fires of hell cannot consume it if it rests in Christ. Your fear of man has brought you nothing but a living death. The fraudulent and the drunkard share the same misery: they look on the sun with suspicion, never at peace, always trembling. Is that the life you want?

Do not be high-minded, thinking you can master this alone, but fear, fear your weakness, fear your sin, and run to the Physician. You are not condemned to this prison. The same Lord who said, “Flee ye,” also made a way of escape. The very terror you feel can become the goad that pushes you into His arms. Forgive yourself? No, receive forgiveness from the only One who can grant it. And then show that forgiveness by doing today what you dread: walk into your workplace, steady yourself with prayer, and refuse the cup of devils. When you are tempted to despair, think of the kingdom prepared for those who fight; think of the worm that does not die, and you will deride these present terrors. They are nothing compared to what awaits those who persevere.

God does not leave all to grace; He requires your feet to move, your hands to work, your will to choose. If you lose your job, you lose what moth and rust destroy. But if you lose your soul? That is ruin beyond repair. So rise up, cry out again for mercy, and then step forward. The God who stilled the storm will quiet your shaking limbs; the God who fed the ravens will sustain you through the day. Do not ask for an easier life; ask for a faithful heart. And when the sweat comes, let it be the sweat of one who labors in repentance, not the cold sweat of a slave to fear. You want to be a better man, a better husband, a better father? Then begin here: go, and sin no more, trusting that He who calls you is faithful and will do it.

Your words are the cry of a heart that is overwhelmed, worn down by fear, and heavy with shame. That feeling of just wanting to stay in bed, to hide from the world and numb the pain, is a place of deep anguish. You are not alone in that feeling, and the Lord is not distant from you in it.

The fear that has you in its grip, the shaking, the sweating, the dread of facing your bosses and your wife, that fear has grown loud because you are, in this moment, forgetting the Lord. Fear and faith cannot occupy the same space. When fear is allowed to take over, faith departs. But the cure is not mustering up more willpower; the cure is remembering. Remember the Lord, who is with you. The one who spoke the universe into existence, who looks upon the whole earth, is the same one who is your strength. You do not need to be afraid of them. He is your very present help.

You have asked for forgiveness, and that is the right and only place to begin. But you must understand what God’s forgiveness truly is. It is not the grudging, partial forgiveness we so often extend to one another. When He forgives, it is total and complete. The enemy of your soul wants to keep you trapped in the cycle of shame by pointing relentlessly at your failures and your lack of self-control, whispering that you are unworthy to even turn to the Lord. That is a lie. The declaration of Scripture is not for the one who has it all together; it is for the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. There is a happiness, a profound blessedness, in receiving that word of forgiveness and stopping the attempt to hide it any longer.

You are looking at yourself and seeing only the failure, the weakness, the shaking hands. But the Lord looks upon you with a love that covers a multitude of flaws. He does not see you as your addiction defines you. He sees you with adoring eyes of love, not because you are perfect, but because of His grace. Taking an honest inventory of your life is necessary, but do it in the company of Jesus Christ, letting Him show you the areas that need healing. Let that examination not lead to a paralyzing condemnation, but to a deeper understanding of the love that covers a multitude of sins. This love casts out the fear that is tormenting you. When you know you are secure in Christ, you can have boldness.

You ask why you have to live like this, expressing a desire for a better life and an easier way. The path forward is not found in the empty promise of a bottle, which is like drinking from a broken cistern that holds no water. The path begins with turning from that evil, which is the very first step of wisdom. Your plea regarding your wife and your desire to be a better husband touches on something profound. The committed, lifelong marital relationship is meant to be a picture of a sacred and pure love. Fight for that. Be nice to yourself by receiving God’s forgiveness, and then extend that same grace to her as you walk in love, just as Christ has loved you.

The stress of the day, the projects, the proposals, the customers, it all feels like too much. But you can take one step. Return to your work, not in your own strength, but in the strength the Lord supplies. Remember Him as you walk through this valley. He is with you. The fear does not get the final word. The love of God for you is the final word, and that is a solid foundation on which to stand, even when your hands tremble. You are not your failure. You are one for whom Christ gave Himself. Walk in that truth today.
