Dear God please help me stop drinking alcohol and smoking pot. I am in my bed again and I should be at work. I'm really sorry God but I am just a little bit tired of working and providing for my family. I really don't want to provide for myself anymore. I'm a little bit scared of losing my job. Please soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife. Please help my wife and my adult kid's to be able to take care of themselves without me. Please forgive me for my weakness and my alcohol use. Please let me have another chance to get back to work and to keep my job and my wife and my home and to be a better person and a better husband and a better employee and a better dad! Will you please help me and tell me that it's going to be ok. I'm scared of losing my job but I can't or should not go into work today because I don't look or feel good because of my AUD. So I am now laying down on my bed and drinking another beer and I will need to call or text my boss to see if I can go back to work next week. I hope that my body can recover from AUD. Please forgive me for my bad choices. Please help me change because I don't like what I am doing.

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your struggles to the Lord. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you in prayer, seeking God’s mercy, strength, and restoration. The weight you carry is heavy, but Jesus Christ is near to the brokenhearted, and He is able to lift you from this place of despair. You have called on the name of Jesus, and that is where true hope begins—for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12).

First, we must address the sin that has taken hold of your life. Alcohol and drug use—whether it be drinking or smoking pot—are not merely bad habits; they are strongholds that enslave the body and mind, leading you away from the life God has called you to live. The Bible warns us clearly, "Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists will inherit the Kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). You have confessed your struggle with alcohol use disorder (AUD), and we acknowledge that this is a spiritual battle as much as it is a physical one. The enemy seeks to destroy your life, your family, and your witness, but Jesus came that you might have life—and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

Your desire to stop drinking and smoking is a step in the right direction, but you cannot overcome this in your own strength. You have already seen how your own efforts have left you feeling powerless. The apostle Paul cried out in his own struggle, "For I don’t do the good I want to do, but the evil I don’t want to do, this I keep doing" (Romans 7:19). This is the reality of living in a fallen world, but the good news is that Jesus has already won the victory. His grace is sufficient for you, and His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). You must surrender this battle to Him completely, trusting that He will break the chains that bind you.

We also hear the weariness in your heart—the exhaustion of working and providing for your family. It is not wrong to feel tired, but it is dangerous to let that weariness lead you into self-pity or resentment. The Bible tells us, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23). Your labor is not in vain, and your role as a provider is a sacred responsibility. But you must remember that your worth is not found in your job or your ability to provide. Your worth is found in Christ alone. He calls you to cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). You are not meant to carry this burden alone.

Your fear of losing your job is valid, but you must not let that fear drive you deeper into sin. You mentioned that you are drinking another beer even as you pray for help. This is a dangerous cycle, and it must stop. The Bible says, "Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts" (Romans 13:13-14). You are making provision for your flesh by keeping alcohol in your hand and in your home. True repentance requires action. You must remove the temptation from your life—pour out the alcohol, throw away the drugs, and seek accountability. Confess your struggle to your wife, your pastor, or a trusted Christian brother who can walk with you through this battle.

You asked God to soften the hearts of your bosses, coworkers, customers, and especially your wife. While it is good to pray for their understanding, you must also take responsibility for your actions. Your wife and children should not have to "take care of themselves" because you are unable to fulfill your role. That is not God’s design. The Bible instructs husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25) and fathers to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). You are called to lead your family with strength and godliness, not to abandon them in their time of need. We pray that God will give you the courage to step up, not step away.

You also expressed a desire to be a better husband, employee, and father. This is a godly desire, and we believe that God will honor it as you surrender to Him. But you must understand that change will not come overnight. Recovery from addiction is a process, and it will require humility, perseverance, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. You cannot do this alone. Seek out a biblical counselor or a Christian recovery program that can help you address the root causes of your addiction. The Bible says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16). You need the support of the body of Christ to walk this path.

We also want to address the lie that you are believing—that you "can’t or shouldn’t" go into work because of how you look or feel. This is the enemy speaking, telling you that you are not capable, that you are too weak, that you are a failure. But the truth is that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). You are stronger than you think, and with God’s help, you can take the first step toward restoration. Call your boss, be honest about your struggle, and ask for grace. If you have a doctor’s note or need medical help, seek it out. But do not stay in this place of hiding and shame. The Bible says, "Whoever conceals his sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy" (Proverbs 28:13).

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is struggling under the weight of addiction and despair. Lord, You see his pain, his fear, and his desire to change. We ask that You would break the chains of alcohol and drugs that have bound him, and set him free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to remove every stumbling block from his life. Father, we pray for his body to recover from the damage that has been done, and for his mind to be renewed by Your Word.

Lord, we ask that You would soften the hearts of his employers, coworkers, and customers, that they would show him grace and understanding as he seeks to make things right. But more than that, we pray that You would give him the courage to take responsibility for his actions and to walk in integrity. Restore his job, but more importantly, restore his relationship with You.

Father, we lift up his wife and children to You. Heal the wounds that have been caused by his absence and his addiction. Give his wife wisdom and strength to support him without enabling him. Help his children to see their father as a man who is fighting for his family, not against them. Lord, we pray that You would rebuild trust and unity in their home, and that they would experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

We pray for our brother’s heart, that You would remove the spirit of self-pity and replace it with a spirit of gratitude and purpose. Remind him that his worth is found in You alone, and that his labor is not in vain. Give him the desire to work as unto You, not for the approval of men. Help him to see his family as a gift from You, and to cherish the role You have given him as a husband and father.

Lord, we ask that You would surround him with godly men who can walk with him through this journey of recovery. Provide him with a biblical counselor, a support group, or a mentor who can help him address the root causes of his addiction. Give him the humility to confess his sins and the strength to persevere.

Above all, we pray that You would draw him closer to You. Let him experience Your love, Your grace, and Your forgiveness in a fresh and powerful way. Remind him that he is not defined by his failures, but by the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Give him hope for the future, and the assurance that with You, all things are possible.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who has overcome the world and who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Amen.

You are not alone in this battle. The Lord is with you, and so are we. Take the first step today—pour out the alcohol, throw away the drugs, and reach out to someone who can help you. God’s grace is sufficient, and His mercies are new every morning. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). Keep fighting, and never lose hope.

Dear friend, we hear your cry for help and we're here for you. We know that change is hard, but we believe in your ability to overcome this. We're praying for you, asking God to give you the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to make better choices. We're also praying for your family, that they would be patient and understanding as you work through this. Remember, you're not alone in this fight. We're here for you, and so is God. Keep fighting, one day at a time. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
