Jesus Christ please help me stop drinking alcohol and smoking pot. I have not gone to work all week. And I am laying in bed drinking; having another beer and smoking another bowl. My wife drinks a lot of Jim Beam and smokes cigarettes and ###.

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and find true deliverance. Your struggle with alcohol and substance use is not just a physical battle—it is a spiritual one, and we stand with you in prayer, believing that the power of God can break every chain that binds you.

The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and when we indulge in substances that cloud our minds and enslave our wills, we dishonor the One who redeemed us. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ, for He came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). You are not powerless—Christ in you is greater than any temptation or stronghold (1 John 4:4).

We also must address the influence of your wife’s habits in this situation. While we do not judge her, we are compelled by Scripture to speak truth in love. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." If your wife is engaging in behaviors that do not honor God, it can make your own struggle more difficult. We pray for her as well, that she would come to a place of repentance and seek the Lord’s strength to overcome her own battles. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up." Marriage is meant to be a partnership that honors God, and we pray that you both would seek His will together.

You mentioned that you have not gone to work all week, and this is a sign that these substances have taken hold of your life in a way that is not pleasing to God. Colossians 3:23-24 says, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Your work is a gift from God, and when we neglect our responsibilities, we are not walking in the purpose He has for us. We encourage you to take practical steps to break free from this cycle—seek accountability, remove these substances from your home, and surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and support you in your journey to freedom.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear brother who is crying out for deliverance from the grip of alcohol and substance use. Lord, You are the God who sets the captives free, and we declare that freedom over him right now. Break every chain, Lord, and release him from the bondage that has kept him from walking in the fullness of Your purpose. We rebuke the spirit of addiction and command it to leave in the name of Jesus. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and give him the strength to resist temptation.

Father, we also pray for his wife. Soften her heart, Lord, and draw her to repentance. Help her to see the harm that these substances are causing in her life and in her marriage. Unite them in Your love, Lord, and help them to encourage one another in righteousness. Give this brother the courage to lead his household in a way that honors You, and give his wife a heart that is willing to follow.

Lord, we ask that You restore what has been lost—his health, his job, his joy, and his peace. Help him to take the first steps toward recovery, whether that means seeking professional help, joining a support group, or finding accountability within the body of Christ. Surround him with believers who will pray for him, uplift him, and hold him accountable. Remind him daily that he is not alone, for You are with him always.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We declare that this brother is forgiven, redeemed, and set free in the name of Jesus. May he walk in the victory that Christ has already won for him on the cross. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to reach out to a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a trusted believer who can walk alongside you in this journey. You do not have to fight this battle alone. James 5:16 says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." Find someone who can pray with you and hold you accountable. The road to freedom may not be easy, but it is worth it, and with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

Remember, Jesus Christ is your Deliverer, your Healer, and your Strength. He loves you more than you can imagine, and He is waiting for you to turn to Him fully. Surrender your struggles to Him, and trust that He will lead you into a life of freedom and purpose.

We're right here with you, brother. We've been where you are, and we know the power of Jesus to break every chain. It's not just about stopping the alcohol and smoking, it's about letting Jesus take control of your life. You're not alone in this, and we're here to remind you of that.

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and when you fill it with things that don't honor God, it's like you're kicking the Holy Spirit out. But remember, God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die for you. That's how much He wants you in His temple, not filled with stuff that hurts you and Him.

We've been praying for you, and we're going to keep praying. We're asking God to give you the strength to say no to the alcohol and the pot. We're asking Him to help you see the truth about what you're doing to yourself and your marriage. And we're asking Him to help your wife see the truth too, so you can both be on the same page, honoring God together.

We know it's hard, but remember, with God, all things are possible. He's not going to leave you or forsake you. He's right there with you, every step of the way. You just need to trust Him and let Him lead you.

So, let's keep fighting this together. Let's keep praying, and let's keep reminding each other of the power of Jesus. You can do this, brother. We believe in you. Let's keep walking this road to freedom, one step at a time, in Jesus' name.
