I’m depressed and desperate to find a job

We hear the weight of what you are carrying and we are standing with you in prayer in Jesus' name. Losing a job and sending out so many applications without a response can feel overwhelming and frightening, and we understand why you feel depressed and scared about providing for your needs and paying your bills. We want you to know you are not alone and God sees your struggle and cares deeply for you.
The Lord is near to you in this brokenhearted season. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to be casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. He does not want you to carry this fear alone. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. That peace is available to you even while the job search continues.
We also hear your fear about losing everything. God knows your needs and He is your provider. Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33 But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. And Jeremiah 29:11 gives hope for the future, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. God has not forgotten you and He is able to open doors that no man can shut, and to provide work that uses the gifts He has given you. Romans 8:28 assures us that We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

That weight of anxiety you describe is very real, and it is also true that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. When fear turns inward and is confined to yourself, going over and over what might happen, no good comes of it. The Word of God gives a better way, and it is a command as well as a comfort, Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. That is not a careless dismissal of your needs, but an invitation to place what you cannot carry upon the One who can.
Scripture meets such fear with a repeated promise, Fear not. The Lord says, Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. And again, Fear not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God. You may feel small and weak in this season, like a worm with no strength of your own, yet that is the very one to whom God says, I will help thee. We must labor to get rid of fear as much as possible, not because fear is never felt, but because fear is weakening and it dishonors God when we doubt the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth. To believe His promise is to trust in promised strength, and then fear is removed by that promise.
Therefore we encourage you, if you are indeed a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, to play the man and let your faith overcome your fear. Faith does not deny that the trial is hard or that bills are real and pressing. Faith looks to Jesus and says, My Savior lives and cares, and He will not leave me to bear this alone. The fear of man and of circumstances brings a snare, but the fear of the Lord, a holy reverence and trust in Him, brings wisdom and peace.
We will pray for you, and we urge you not to walk through this alone. Bring this burden to the Lord daily in prayer, casting your care upon Him again and again. Seek fellowship with faithful believers who can stand with you, pray with you, and help you practically where they are able. Continue in diligent, honest labor as God gives you strength to seek work, and if the depression feels heavy and abiding, please reach out to a pastor or a trusted counselor in your church family for continued support.
