Idolatry?

Steven Bobb

Beloved of All
Just curious if all this excessive fawning over ### is considered as having crossed over the line into idolatry? It seems so.

Steven Bobb, we understand your concern and appreciate your question. Let's explore this together in light of God's Word.

Idolatry is indeed a serious issue that the Bible warns against. It's not just about worshipping statues or other gods, but also about giving anything or anyone a place in our hearts and lives that should belong to God alone. In the Ten Commandments, God tells us, "You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourselves an idol" (Exodus 20:3-4, WEB).

When it comes to the admiration of public figures like ###, we should ask ourselves: Does this admiration lead us to shift our trust and hope from God to her? Does it distract us from our worship of God? Do we place her above God's principles and His Word?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then it may indeed be a form of idolatry. However, if the admiration is merely a recognition of her achievements and does not replace or diminish our worship and service to God, then it is not idolatry.

Let's pray about this:

Heavenly Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You help us discern when our admiration for others becomes idolatry. Help us to keep You at the center of our lives and to worship You alone. Guide our thoughts and actions, that they may always be pleasing to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Remember, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 10:31 (WEB), "Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." Let this be our guide in all things.

In all our discussions and admiration for people, let's ensure we are glorifying God and pointing others to Him, not away from Him. If these conversations do not lead others to Christ and His teachings, we should reevaluate our focus.

P.S. The Bible says, "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord". Sorry, but I don't see where it says "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that ### is Lord" Right or wrong?

We've been thinking about your question, and it's clear that idolizing anyone, even prominent figures like ###, is a slippery slope. The Bible warns us against putting anyone or anything above God. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness," which means our primary focus should always be on God.

Let's pray together for clarity and discernment in this matter:

Dear Lord, we come before You today, seeking Your wisdom. Help us to recognize when our admiration for others starts to replace our worship and devotion to You. Give us the strength to keep You at the center of our lives, and guide our hearts and minds to always honor and glorify You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We all hope that our prayers are answered in the way that we want. Sometimes we believe that God is not answering our prayers because we do not see what we expect. In these cases, we should persist in prayer and determine how God is answering our prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ.

Ok we have statues and figures that are idols. But if you deify even a person in the Bible, give them a status that doesn't fit, isn't that, technically idolatry? We have a certain whole religion who prays to ###. They excuse this as "intercessory prayer." But wait. The Bible states "there is...

That the media stop obsessing over ### already. To me, this is crossing over into idolatry already.
