I want this man to be my husband

We hear your heart’s deep longing, and we join you in lifting this desire before the Lord. The Bible tells us, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4 WEB). However, we must also remember that God’s timing and His will are perfect, and we must align our desires with His Word.

First, we want to gently remind you that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God for a lifetime of love, commitment, and mutual submission (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:22-33). If this man is not yet your husband, we encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in pursuing a godly courtship with the intention of marriage, rather than simply desiring a relationship without the commitment God intends.

If you are already in a relationship with this man, we must ask: Are you both believers in Jesus Christ? The Bible is clear that Christians should not be "unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). If he does not share your faith, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether this is the path God would have for you. Marriage is hard enough without the added challenge of differing spiritual foundations.

We also want to lovingly address any physical intimacy outside of marriage. If you are engaging in sexual relations before marriage, this is called fornication, and it is a sin in God’s eyes (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB). We encourage you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness, as well as to honor Him by waiting until marriage to express physical love. God’s design for intimacy is beautiful, but it is reserved for the marriage covenant.

If this man is not yet a believer, we pray that God would draw him to Himself. "The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9 WEB). We must also pray for wisdom and discernment for you, does this man exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)? Is he a man of godly character, committed to leading a family in a way that honors the Lord?

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister and her desire for marriage. Lord, we ask that You would align her heart with Yours and give her clarity and wisdom in this matter. If this man is the one You have for her, we pray that You would soften his heart, draw him to You, and prepare both of them for a godly marriage that honors You. If he is not the one, Lord, we ask that You would close the door gently and open a better one in Your perfect timing.

Father, we also ask for forgiveness for any sin in this area, whether it be impatience, sexual immorality, or idolizing a relationship over You. Cleanse her heart, Lord, and help her to seek You first above all else. Give her the strength to wait on Your timing and the faith to trust that You know what is best for her.

We pray that You would surround her with godly mentors and friends who can speak truth into her life and encourage her in her walk with You. May she find her ultimate fulfillment in Christ alone, knowing that He is enough.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Spend time in Scripture, asking God to reveal His will for your life. Consider fasting as a way to draw closer to Him and seek His guidance. Surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and pray for you. And remember, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).

If this man is not a believer, we urge you to pray for his salvation first and foremost. A marriage built on Christ is the only foundation that will withstand the storms of life. If he is a believer, pray for wisdom in how to encourage one another in your faith and how to pursue a relationship that honors God.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, and He has a plan for your life that is good (Jeremiah 29:11). Do not let your desire for marriage become an idol that distracts you from your relationship with Him. Seek Him first, and everything else will fall into place according to His perfect will.

We hear how deep your feelings are for this man and how much you hope for a future together. Wanting to be married and to build a life with someone you love is a tender and significant desire, and we are honored you shared it with us.

We know when our heart is set on one person it can be hard to wait and to see clearly. It helps to bring that love before the Lord honestly and also to look at what is true on both sides. Marriage is a mutual covenant, so his faith, his feelings and his willingness to pursue that covenant matter as much as your own hopes. Taking time to seek God's will together, rather than holding it alone, can bring peace whether the answer is yes or a different path.

One helpful next step could be to talk openly with a trusted pastor or a mature married couple who knows you both, and to have a clear, kind conversation with him about where he sees the relationship heading. Their perspective can help you discern if you are moving in the same direction.

Father, we lift her and this relationship to You. Give her wisdom, calm and clarity as she seeks You. Guide both hearts toward Your will and prepare each for whatever You have ahead. Draw her close and let her know Your love and care each day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

The longing you have expressed for marriage is one which God Himself has placed in the human heart, for He ordained marriage to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and He desires truth in the inward parts and a will cheerfully surrendered to Him.

You say, I will have this man to be my husband, and there is a natural strength in that will. Yet we are taught in Scripture not to say, we will go and we will do this or that and we will gain our desire, as though we could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. It is foolish for any of us to feel that everything will fall out as we desire. Rather we must say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that. Your will, though earnest, must be laid humbly at His feet, for salvation and every good gift is according to the will of God, and it shall be said in heaven, God's will is done, hallelujah, hallelujah.

What time you are afraid, whether it be fear that you will not be loved in return or fear that your hope will be disappointed, you will trust in Him. He who feeds the ravens will not allow a soul that rests upon Him to lack any good thing that His wisdom sees fit to give. No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. But sometimes comfort is withheld because we have not fully surrendered our way to Him, and the Lord would have us ask, Lord, what will You have me to do, and when will You comfort me according to Your perfect timing.

Therefore let us pray not that our stubborn will may conquer, but that His gracious will may be formed in us. Seek first that you both are in Christ, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and apart from faith in His blood there is no true union that can honor God. If this man knows the Lord and you know the Lord, then pray that the Lord would make His will plain to you both, that you would keep yourselves pure as you wait, for that which belongs to marriage belongs within its covenant alone, and that you would be willing to be made willing in the day of His power.

May the Lord teach you to say from the heart, Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God, and to rest in this, I will leave everything to Him, all the way from earth to Heaven, and I will be content to live a day at a time, trusting Him to guide you. If it be His will that this man should be your husband, may He establish it in holiness and love. If it be not His will, may He give you grace to bow to His better wisdom and to know that He has not failed you nor forsaken you, but will provide what is best for your soul and for His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire for marriage is a natural and honorable desire, for God gave that longing to be fulfilled within the covenant of marriage itself, a lifelong union of one man and one woman for life and for the procreation of children and mutual help, entered into with purity and reverence.

Love is a mighty sovereignty that can chain the soul to its object, and for that very reason it must be ordered rightly. True love does not simply follow passion or insist on its own will, but seeks what is good according to God and yields to His will with reverence, as Paul did when he prayed continually yet remained thankful whether he received what he asked or not. Natural desire was bestowed with a view to marriage, not with a view to what is outside it, and when passion is indulged without restraint it becomes cruel and tyrannical and never ceases to devour. For that reason Scripture calls us to restrain desires by admonition and prayer, and then at the fitting season to enter marriage honorably, receiving one another in purity so that the union may be blessed and you may comply with one another in faithfulness.

I will pray for you that God, who sees in secret, will lead you according to His perfect will. I pray that He will draw you first to deeper love for Christ Himself, for if we love Christ above all, all other things here will be seen in their true light, and we will not be enslaved by present longing but will look to heaven and to the hope set before us. I pray that He will grant you wisdom and patience to endure and to walk in the narrow way, and that if it is His will for this man to be your husband, He will make that way plain in His time, guarding you both in holiness and keeping you from fornication and from living together before marriage, so that if you are joined, it may be as a chaste and honorable covenant before Him. And if this is not His will, I pray He will give you peace to accept it, heal your heart, and keep you from being wounded by desires that pierce the soul with many sorrows, and instead lead you to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness.

Above all, seek your salvation and your hope through Jesus Christ alone, for He alone has power both to forgive and to crown. Commit this desire to your Father who sees all and has power to give abundantly at the fitting season, and ask Him not only for a husband but for a marriage that will help you both to serve Him faithfully all your days.
