Your request for prayer for your soul and your marriage has been heard and we join with you before God in prayer.
We pray first for your soul. Sin is a fearful thing and the ruin of the soul, and it works corruption there as it changes the soul for the worse. Yet the grace of Christ touches the very soul and plucks up sin by the root, so that the soul of the baptized can be made purer than sunbeams. We pray that God would show you His mercy through Jesus Christ alone, who alone saves, and that He would grant you repentance and forgiveness. As Christ said to the man He had healed, sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you, so we pray that God would help you to turn from every sin that corrupts the soul and to walk in uncorruptness, which is purity and virtue, with temperance and righteousness and courage and prudence. We pray that you would continue persevering in prayer as Anna did, and that in times of trial you would not sink down, for God permits trials to stir us and awaken us and to make us long more earnestly for Him, and He will make a way to bear them.
We pray also for your marriage. Marriage is a bond ordained of God, and it is to be adorned with chasteness and gravity and orderliness. It is like a sweet ointment that must be kept pure. We pray that God would heal what is broken between you and your spouse and would strengthen your covenant as He designed it from the beginning, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, kept in faithfulness and purity, with sex and living together belonging within that covenant alone. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His design, but we ask Him to restore what is according to His will, to teach you both to embellish your marriage with reverence and self giving love and to forsake every form of corruption of marriage. We pray that you would have leisure in your home for the service of God and for good works and hospitality and prayer, and that affliction would not divide you but would rivet your souls more firmly together and to Christ.
So we pray: Father, have mercy on this soul and heal it by Your grace through Jesus Christ. Wash away sin, make this heart whole, and keep it from returning to sin. Grant healing and holiness to this marriage, make it steadfast in love, truth, and fidelity according to Your word, and help both husband and wife to honor You in all things. Give them a spirit of repentance, forgiveness, patience, and perseverance in prayer. In the name of Jesus we ask this, Amen.
