I have lost everything day trading.

Beloved of All
Can you please pray for me. I have lost pretty much everything in the market and I need to tell my wife how badly I have destroyed our finances. I need a miracle. Mortgage is due soon and bills are piling up.

We have read your request and we carry this heavy burden with you before the Lord in Jesus name. We hear the fear and shame in your words as you face telling your wife how badly the finances have been damaged and as the mortgage and bills press in, and we want you to know that God sees you in this distress and He is not distant from you.

We also want to speak the truth to you in love because we care for your soul and your marriage. Scripture calls us to be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us. Luke 16:10 says He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. And Proverbs 13:11 says Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by labor will increase. Proverbs 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. Day trading, when pursued as a quick and hasty way to gain wealth, often functions like gambling and puts at risk what God intended for the provision and security of your family. We gently rebuke the pattern of risking what was not yours alone to risk, and we also must address that hiding this loss from your wife has been a form of falsehood within the covenant of marriage. God calls husband and wife to be one flesh with no deceit between them. Ephesians 4:25 says Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another. How much more should truth reign between a husband and wife. The way forward must begin with full honesty, confession to God and to your wife, and a turning away from speculative trading.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to share why that matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved and heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to place your faith fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, and trusting Him not only for financial rescue but for the forgiveness and new life only He can give. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We encourage you today, without further delay, to sit down with your wife in humility and tell her the whole truth with sorrow and repentance, asking for her forgiveness. Invite a trusted pastor or wise godly counselor into that conversation if you need support. Stop any further trading immediately, bring all accounts and debts into the light, and seek practical help for budgeting and dealing with creditors. God honors diligence and honest labor, and even in this painful season He can teach you to build again little by little through faithful work.

We join together now to pray for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this brother and his wife and their home to You. Lord, we confess before You the poor stewardship and the deceit that has led to this place, and we ask for Your mercy and forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Grant this husband the courage and humility to speak the full truth to his wife today, and grant his wife grace to hear it with love even in her hurt. We ask You to bring unity and not division into this marriage, and to heal the breach that secrecy has caused. Father, You know the mortgage that is due and the bills that are piling up, and we ask You to provide for their needs according to Your wisdom. Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. We do not ask for a quick windfall but for Your daily provision, for open doors for honest work, for favor with lenders, and for wisdom to manage what remains. Teach him to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all these things will be added as You see fit, as Matthew 6:33 promises. Turn his heart away from hasty gain and toward diligent, faithful labor, and restore to him the joy of walking in integrity before You and before his family. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We urge you to stay rooted in prayer and in the Word, to meet with your pastor this week, and to let your wife be your partner in every financial decision from this day forward. God is able to redeem even what feels destroyed when we walk in repentance and truth.

We were so sorry to read what you are carrying right now. Facing such a large loss, knowing you need to tell your wife, and watching the mortgage and bills come due would leave anyone feeling overwhelmed and afraid. Thank you for reaching out instead of holding this alone.

We know that conversation with your wife feels like the hardest part, and it is also the kindest and most important next step. We encourage you not to wait. Choose a quiet time when you can talk without interruption, bring the actual statements so you can share the full picture honestly and humbly, and let her see you want to walk through this together. If you can, ask a trusted pastor or counselor to be available to sit with you both afterward so you have support as you make next decisions.

For the financial pressure, please get practical help right away alongside prayer. A reputable nonprofit consumer credit counseling agency or a financial counselor can review your income, debts, and mortgage with you, help you contact your lender before a payment is missed, and help you set up a workable repayment plan. Many lenders have hardship options if you reach out early, and having a clear plan in place can bring some steadiness as you take the next steps.

We are holding you and your wife in prayer.

Father, we lift this brother and his wife to You. You see the weight he is carrying, the fear about telling the truth, and the need facing their household. Give him courage and humility to speak honestly, give them both wisdom and unity as they face these decisions, and provide for their needs as only You can. Lead them to trustworthy help and keep them close to You in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest and sorrowful letter has been read with deep concern and with prayer before the throne of grace. To lose what has been entrusted to your stewardship, and to feel the weight of bills pressing and a mortgage soon due, is a heavy trial indeed, and the fear of opening your lips to your wife must lie very heavy upon you. Be assured you are not forgotten in prayer.

There is a confession which must come first, and that is to God alone. Like the publican of whom our Lord spoke, your prayer must be, God be merciful to me a sinner. That confession is to be made secretly and sincerely before Him who cannot be polluted by our iniquity, yet who is most willing to forgive. It is not a general acknowledgment that all men are sinners, but a personal taking home of your own ruin and your own need, and a looking to Christ alone for remedy. He is more willing to forgive than you are to be forgiven, for God the Father has set forth Christ to be a propitiation for sin, and what fools we are to look anywhere else for salvation. If you have not already done so, pour out your heart fully before Him, confessing not only the loss but whatever love of gain, presumption, or neglect of duty has marked this path, and seek His mercy and His wisdom.

Then there is a confession which must be made with the mouth. Scripture teaches that with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. That confession is not to be made only in comfortable places, but in the time of temptation and trial, and it behooves every Christian to make confession in his family. To hide this matter from your wife will only add weight to the burden and give place to further sorrow. What is done in secret must be brought into the light with humility and truth. Go to her quickly, not with excuses, but with a plain and full account of what you have done, taking responsibility without reserve, and asking her forgiveness as you have asked God's. This will be a deed of courage, and it may expose you to pain and reproach, but it is the right and necessary path, and the Lord can make even a painful confession the beginning of restoration and trust.

I would urge you also to act at once in what remains. Seek godly and wise counsel without delay, both pastoral and practical. Let no bill or notice go unopened, and let no creditor be left without honest communication. Speak to your mortgage holder and to those to whom you owe, and seek help from a trusted minister or a wise steward who can help you count what remains and order your steps. Put away all thought of chasing what is lost by further hazard, and commit your way to honest labour and patient endurance. The Lord often delivers not by sudden plenty but by teaching us to walk step by step in integrity.

We will pray for you, and I pray now that you may join in this prayer. O Lord God, be merciful to this sinner who comes with a broken and burdened heart. Forgive his sins through the blood of Christ, and grant him repentance and faith that look to Jesus only. Give him courage to speak the truth in love to his wife, and give her grace to hear with understanding. In this time of great need, provide for this household according to Thy wisdom, keep them from despair, and lead this brother to honour Thee in all his stewardship from this day forward. Preserve his marriage, establish his feet upon a sure foundation, and let this trial be the means of bringing him nearer to Christ, in whose name we ask all things. Amen.

Cast yourself upon the Lord, make haste to do what is honest and right before Him and before your family, and keep seeking Him daily.
