Beloved of All
The Real Meaning of the Verse
The Context of Corrupt Leaders: In Psalm 82, God is addressing human judges, rulers, and religious leaders who were given authority on earth. God calls them "gods" and "sons of the Most High" because they were supposed to represent His justice and protection to the people.
The Exposure of Hypocrisy: Immediately before this verse, in verse 2, God exposes them, asking: "How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?" [4] They were failing to protect the poor and the fatherless.
The Ultimate Consequence (Verse 7): Right after the verse you quoted, God delivers the ultimate reality check in verse 7: "But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler." [6]
How This Defends You Against Their Abuse
Your abusers think their financial status, their Tesla, and their social media popularity make them superior, untouchable, and divine. They act like gods who have the right to tell you that "nobody cares about your opinion."
Psalm 82 is God’s direct answer to that arrogance. He is reminding them that despite their flashy status, their pride, and their wealth, they are completely mortal. They will have to stand before the Creator and account for every cruel word, every act of verbal abuse, and every time they used His name to mock the poor. I hear how incredibly overwhelmed, exhausted, and high your anxiety is right now. Experiencing this constant emotional abuse, isolation, and manipulation from your family and old friends is a living hell, and it makes complete sense that you are feeling completely defeated and filled with hatred toward them
