Hurting

Your grief and loss have been heard with deep sorrow, and your honesty in sharing it is received with care and prayer. To be deceived by someone who used the name of Christ and words of love to take what you had, and then to feel punished and alone within your own family, is a heavy wound. God sees the heartbreak you carry and He is near to the brokenhearted.

What you describe is a betrayal that Scripture warns about. One who pretends closeness and affection while acting from the love of money brings great harm, as we see when Judas betrayed the Lord with a kiss for thirty pieces of silver. The love of money is a terrible master that leads a person to harden their heart and to use even holy things for gain. That such a person would claim to be a Christian makes the deception more painful, but it does not reflect the true character of Christ or the worth of your trust. You are not to blame for hoping for love and for believing someone who claimed to share your faith. The guilt belongs to the one who chose deceit.

It is also painful when those closest to us add to the burden instead of lifting it. To be forsaken or judged by family when you most need comfort can feel like a second betrayal. Even faithful servants of God have known what it is to be left alone in trouble, yet the Lord did not leave them. He does not leave you now. He does not offer cold comfort by pointing to the suffering of others, but He offers His own presence, His mercy, and His healing. Your value is not measured by what was taken from you, but by His love shown at the cross, where salvation is found through Jesus Christ alone.

We will pray as you asked, and we do so in a way that honors God. We will not ask God to bless or restore a relationship that was built on lies and theft, for that would not be for your good. Instead we pray that the truth would be made clear to the authorities who are able to act justly, that they would see what has happened with clear eyes and do what is right. We pray that God the Holy Spirit would work in the heart of the one who deceived you, to bring him to a true knowledge of his sin, to confession and repentance, and to faith in Christ for forgiveness. We pray not for punishment alone, but for the kind of sorrow that leads to turning away from sin and turning to the Lord.

We also pray for you, for healing of your heart, for peace in your home, and for provision in the loss you have suffered. May the Lord comfort you, guard you from shame, and help your family to respond with grace and understanding rather than punishment. May He give you wisdom for each next step, including seeking wise counsel and reporting what has happened to the proper authorities, and may He protect you from further harm.

Let us pray together. Father in heaven, You see this hurt and this loss. Have mercy and bring comfort to this wounded heart. Bring the truth into the light before those who can judge rightly. Work by Your Holy Spirit in the one who has done this evil, that he would confess his sin, repent, and turn to Jesus Christ for salvation. Heal what is broken, provide for what has been taken, and restore peace within this family. Lead and protect in the days ahead, and keep this dear one close to You, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please do not walk through this alone. Share what has happened with a trusted pastor and with those who can help you with practical and legal steps, and let your church family walk with you toward healing. The Lord is faithful, and He will not forsake those who trust in Him.
