Hurting

Disciple of Prayer
I fell for a romance scam who took all my money leading me to believe in us. So convincing especially him being a Christian. Being punished by family. Heart broken. I also looking back would like authorities see the truth and I love him to pray sincerely that God works through the Holy Spirit to confess, repent and etc. Also

We have read your request and we hurt with you in this deep heartbreak and loss, and we bring your pain before the Lord together in Jesus' name.

The Lord sees what has been done to you and He is near to you in this brokenness. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We know the shame and grief you feel over the financial loss and the deception, and also the added pain of feeling punished by your family. God does not despise your sorrow, He gathers your tears.

We also want to speak truth in love about what has happened. Scripture warns us that deception can come even under a claim of faith. Matthew 7:16 says By their fruits you will know them. 1 John 4:1 says Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. A true brother in Christ will not lie, steal, or manipulate for money. Exodus 20:15 says You shall not steal, and Ephesians 4:28 calls us to labor honestly rather than to take from others. The one who deceived you, even while claiming to be a Christian, has shown fruit that does not align with Christ, and we rebuke that deceit and theft as sin before God. 2 Corinthians 11:14 reminds us that even Satan masquerades as an angel of light, so we must be wise and discerning. Proverbs 14:15 says A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.

We gently encourage you to no longer view this person through romantic love as a future spouse, but to release that attachment to the Lord for healing. A godly marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman built on truth, integrity, and shared faith lived out in person and in community, not on secret online promises and requests for money. Courtship should be toward marriage with another Christian believer, in the light and accountability of family and the church, and it never requires you to send money to prove love. We encourage you to break all contact with this deceiver and to seek wise counsel from a pastor and trusted family, and to report what has happened to your bank and to the proper authorities as the Lord leads. Romans 13:4 reminds us that authorities are a servant of God for justice, and we will pray that they see the truth clearly.

We also understand the pain of feeling punished by your family. While they may be reacting out of fear and concern over your loss, punishment and shaming is not the Lord's way of restoring His children. We encourage you and your family toward grace, honesty, and forgiveness. Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. We pray your family will come alongside you with support and wisdom rather than condemnation, and that you can forgive them as Christ has forgiven you.

Your desire to pray for this man to confess and repent is Christlike and merciful. We join you in that, for God desires repentance. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. John 16:8 says when the Spirit comes He will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment. We pray the Holy Spirit will convict this man deeply, that he would turn from theft and lies and be saved. At the same time we pray you will entrust justice to God. Romans 12:19 says Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. You do not need to carry the burden of making him repent, you can place both justice and mercy in God's hands.

We noticed your request speaks of God and the Holy Spirit but does not mention Jesus by name, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for your sins, and to come to God in His name, for He alone is our mediator and healer.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ for our dear sister who is hurting. Lord, You see the deceit and the theft that has taken her money and broken her heart, and You see the pain of feeling punished by those she loves. We ask You to wrap her in Your comfort and to heal her broken heart. Provide for her needs according to Your riches, for Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Give her wisdom and peace as she takes steps to seek help from authorities and counsel, and let truth be clearly seen by those investigating. We ask that You would give her family tender hearts to forgive and support her, and give her grace to forgive them.

Lord, we also lift up the man who committed this scam. We ask that Your Holy Spirit would convict him of sin and lead him to true confession and repentance, that he would turn from his wicked way and be saved through Jesus. Let justice be done according to Your perfect will, and let mercy triumph where repentance is real.

Lead our sister into Your truth, restore what has been lost in the ways only You can, and guide her future. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Help her to trust You with all her heart and to seek only relationships that honor You, in the light, with accountability, toward a godly marriage if it is Your will. Let her find her identity and security not in a man’s promises but in Christ alone.

We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and hope, amen.

We were so saddened to read what you have been carrying. To be deceived by someone who felt so convincing, especially when he claimed to share your faith, and then to lose your money and the future you thought you had together, is a deep and painful loss. It makes sense your heart feels broken, and that being blamed at home makes it even heavier to bear.

What you are feeling is real grief. You lost trust, financial security, and a relationship you believed in, all at once. Grief after a betrayal like this often comes in waves, and it can take time before the shock softens. Please be gentle with yourself as you move through it, and know that needing time does not mean you are failing.

When you are able, one steady next step can help is to have one safe person walk with you outside the family pressure. If you have a trusted pastor or a counselor at your church, consider sharing the full story with them. They can also help you think through practical steps like contacting your bank and reporting what happened to the proper authorities, if you have not already, so you do not have to carry the logistics alone.

We pray for you now. Father, we lift our sister to You in her hurt and disappointment. Comfort her heart, restore her sense of dignity and safety, and give her wisdom for each next decision. Provide for her needs and surround her with kind, steady support. We also ask that You work in this man's heart to bring truth to light and lead him to honesty and repentance. Guide her family toward understanding. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for this request in Jesus Name.

There is a sorrow in your letter which the Lord Himself understands, for He too was betrayed by one who drew near with a kiss and by one who held the bag and counted gain as godliness. Do not think that your grief is hidden from Him. He saw the deceit practiced upon you, He saw the trust you gave to one who professed to be a Christian and proved false, and He marks also the loss of what you had gathered, the breaking of your heart, and the hard words that have come from your own household.

You have been wounded in two ways, by the hand of a stranger and by the tongue of those nearest to you, and such wounds go deep. Yet hear what the Word of God says, and let it drive away despair, There is forgiveness with Him. There is forgiveness. Not a forgiveness that is measured out by little and little, but a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so free that God Himself sets it forth as a wonder, and it is a complete forgiveness, the tally destroyed, the record nailed to the cross. Whatever your past may have been, whatever folly or trust misplaced, if you come with a penitent heart and trembling desire for mercy, and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone, you may have it now. Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as a poor sinner who has nothing to pay.

And with forgiveness comes healing. The Scripture joins them together, the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity, and the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick. The very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue in it. He does not only pardon the sin, He heals the broken heart that sin and sorrow have made. He continues daily to forgive and daily to heal, and the forgiveness He gives is an eternal forgiveness, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men.

You ask that the truth might be seen by those in authority, and that the one who wronged you might be brought to confess and repent. This is a right and sober thing to pray. We will pray with you that God, by His Holy Spirit, will convict that man of his sin, that he may no longer hide behind a false profession, but may own the wrong, turn from it, and seek mercy in Christ. We do not ask God to bless or restore a deceitful entanglement, for God blesses only what is true and holy, but we do ask that He will bring forth truth, that justice may be done, and that a soul now walking in deceit may be saved. We will pray also that those set to keep the law may see clearly and act wisely, and we urge you in that same wisdom to place all that has happened before lawful authorities and before faithful pastors or counselors who can walk with you, and to have no further private dealings with one who has proved himself a deceiver.

For your family, we pray that the Lord will soften what is harsh and turn punishment into pity. Much of their anger may come from fear for you, yet you need their compassion now, not their reproach. May the Lord teach all of you that mutual forgiveness which belongs to a Christian household, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Lay your whole case, then, before the Lord Jesus. Tell Him all, the shame, the loss, the loneliness, the longing for truth to prevail. He is not surprised by betrayal, and He is not slow to pardon. Seek Him while He may be found, trust His blood and righteousness alone for your acceptance with God, and leave your cause in His hands who loves justice and mercy.

We pray now for you, that our gracious God would comfort your heart, provide for your need, lift the weight of condemnation, surround you with wise and kind helpers, bring to light what has been hidden, and grant to the one who deceived you that godly sorrow which worketh repentance unto salvation. May the Sun of Righteousness rise upon you with healing in His wings, and may you know that there is forgiveness, full and free, with Him through Jesus Christ our Lord.
