We join you in this beautiful and humble request and we say amen to your desire that the Holy Spirit would speak clearly to this husband and his wife, their children, family, friends, and prayer and ministry partners by every means that honors God and aligns with His Word.
We love your heart to look to the Lord and to His Word first, for to the law and to the testimony, if they don’t speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them, Isa 8:20. We agree that the Scriptures are our sure foundation, for every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Tim 3:16-17. We thank God that His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Psalm 119:105, and we rejoice that you desire to hear the Shepherd’s voice above the noise and pollution of the world, for My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, John 10:27.
We also agree that God in His sovereignty is free to use many means to guide His people, and we thank Him that He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them, Heb 7:25, and that Christ Jesus is he who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us, Rom 8:34. How comforting to know that Jesus Christ himself intercedes for this family and for us.
We affirm what you have shared about how God has spoken throughout history. God has indeed spoken through dreams and visions, for He says I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions, Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17, and If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream, Num 12:6. We remember how God warned Abimelech in a dream, Gen 20:3, and Laban in a dream, Gen 31:24, how He spoke to Joseph, Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, Matt 1:20, and warned the wise men in a dream, Matt 2:12, and gave Paul a vision in the night, Acts 16:9, and how Nebuchadnezzar was given dreams from God, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5. We agree with you that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Heb 13:8, and that His arm is not shortened, Is Yahweh’s hand waxed short, Num 11:23, and Behold, Yahweh’s hand is not shortened, that it can’t save, Isa 59:1.
At the same time we want to gently encourage you and all who pray this way to keep the Word as the final test of every impression, dream, vision, prophecy, counsel, or sign. We are told to test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1, and to test all things, and hold firmly that which is good, 1 Thess 5:21. Even godly counsel must be weighed, for where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory, Prov 11:14, yet that counsel must never contradict Scripture. The leading of the Holy Spirit will never lead us away from the written Word, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God, Rom 8:14, and the Spirit is the Spirit of truth who guides us into all truth, John 16:13. Dreams and visions, signs in the heavens, for let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years, Gen 1:14, as the star that guided the wise men, Matt 2:2, and signs of the times, 1 Chron 12:32, must all be discerned with humility and with the understanding that deception is real in the last days, for Jesus said Watch out that no one leads you astray, Matt 24:4, and the evil one deceives the whole world, Rev 12:9.
So we pray with thanksgiving that God would make His will abundantly clear and keep this family from error, while giving them that peace that surpasses understanding.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we thank You that You desire to speak to Your children and that You know how to speak so that we can hear and understand, for God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention, in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, Job 33:14-16. We ask in Jesus’ name that You would speak to this husband, his beloved wife, their children, their extended family, friends, and fellow laborers in Christ through Your holy Word first and foremost, through faithful preaching from the pulpit, through divine appointments, through wise and godly counsel, and if it pleases You, through dreams, visions, prophecy, the quiet leading of Your Holy Spirit, and even signs that You ordain, always in a way that is confirmed by Scripture and bears the fruit of the Spirit.
We ask that You would give them ears to hear Your voice and hearts to obey, that they would not be led astray by lying wonders, by fear, by evil people or by the evil one himself. We ask You to deliver us from evil, Matt 6:13, and to keep us from the evil one, John 17:15, for the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one, 2 Thess 3:3. Guard their marriages, their homes, and their churches in purity and truth, keep them from temptation, from deception, and from the path of those who are lovers of self and disobedient, 2 Tim 3:2-5.
We agree with Job that You can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained, Job 42:2, and with Luke that nothing will be impossible with God, Luke 1:37, and that with men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God, Mark 10:27. We agree that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it, John 1:5, and that Your promises are all Yes in Christ, for however many are the promises of God, in him is the Yes, therefore also through him is the Amen, to the glory of God through us, 2 Cor 1:20.
Father, cause Your will to be made known to this family with humble confidence and with great clarity, that they may walk in Your ways, bring glory to Jesus, and know Your incomprehensible peace, for in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:6-7. We thank You in advance, believing that whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them, Mark 11:24, and that without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, Heb 11:6.
We lift up their pastors and government leaders as well, that they too would hear Your voice and be kept from sin and deception. Keep this entire household in the center of Your will, in holiness, in love, and in faithful marriage and family life that honors You, until the day we see the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, Matt 24:30. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Amen and Faithful Witness, Rev 3:14, through whom we have access to You and by whom alone we are saved, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, amen.
