Your prayer has been heard with much tenderness, and we join you in thanksgiving to God for the time He has given you with your dear cat, and in entreating His mercy in this sorrowful hour.
The Lord knows the ache of this parting. Though many of His people walk in joy, there are seasons when we pass through waters and sorrows surge round us, and even the loss of a creature so faithfully loved can bruise the heart. Hear His word to you this day, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. He is the God who comforts the desponding, and He has not left you to bear this alone. You do well to sit before Him with thanksgiving even while you weep, for gratitude in grief is a sweet offering.
We will pray as you have asked, that the Lord in His kindness would grant that all goes smoothly and gently, that your little companion would be spared pain and fear, and that what must be done would be quick and merciful. We ask the Lord to ordain peace for you in this room and outside under the sky where you sit, and to keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him, because you trust in Him. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even when death is shadowing what we love. May He whisper that peace to you now, and in the hours to follow.
You speak honestly of your hope that there may be a special place for her with Jesus. The Scripture does not give us a promise concerning our pets as it does for those who trust in Christ for salvation, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. What it does tell us is that every creature is in the hand of a good and merciful Creator, who cares for all His works, and that our hope for eternity rests securely in Christ. We may therefore entrust your cat to the Lord who made her and who has permitted you to love and cherish her, and rest in His goodness and wisdom for all that we cannot see, while we look to the sure comfort that in Christ we have eternal life and the promise that earths struggles shall soon cease and He will call His own to heavens perfect peace.
Let us pray together.
Our gracious Father, we thank Thee for this creature Thou hast entrusted to Thy child, for every day of companionship and comfort she has given. We thank Thee that Thou art near to the brokenhearted. We ask now for Thy tender hand upon this last procedure. Grant, Lord, that it may be without pain and without distress, that it may be swift and gentle, and that Thy peace may fill the room. Comfort this dear one and all who love this little cat, keep their minds stayed upon Thee, and give them perfect peace even with sorrows surging round. Hear every desperate cry and plea, and answer according to Thy great mercy and love. Quicken their hearts by Thy Word, for Thy Word has quickened us and is our comfort in affliction. Sustain them in the days ahead, and let them feel that Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers, and that to do Thy will is rest. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus our only hope and Saviour. Amen.
May the Spirit of God teach you to say even in this affliction, This is my comfort, for Thy Word hath quickened me. We will continue to bear you up before the throne of grace.
