Your earnest and tearful plea has been heard, and my heart joins with yours before the throne of grace. The Lord who made all creatures and who feeds the sparrows knows your love for this poor cat committed to your care, and He knows the heaviness that now presses upon your spirit as you watch her suffer, unable to eat, and failing in her limbs.
There is a peculiar comfort for such affliction, and it is this, that God is faithful. He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond what you are able. He who has shown His marvelous skill in creation and His wondrous wisdom in providence does not miscalculate nor miss the mark He aims at. All your trials and troubles are as much in the hand of the great God as all else, and they are all in His power. He means to leave His people in the furnace for a little while because He sees the dross being taken away, but if the good metal were being injured in the slightest degree, He would lift you out immediately.
You feel yourself at present as a bruised reed and smoking flax, feeble and fearful, scarce knowing how to pray. Blessed be God, this word is for you then, for He will not break the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flax, but will sustain and hold up the weak ones. He delights in mercy, and even your feeble cry, offered through Jesus Christ, comes up with acceptance before Him.
Let us pray together that the Lord in His mercy would lay His healing hand upon your cat, that He would relieve her affliction, restore her appetite, give again regular strength to her body, and renew the use of her limbs. Let us ask that He would prosper the means placed in your hands, guide the hands and wisdom of the vet, and open the way for a speedy appointment. And let us pray that He would give you, in this hour of desperation, a clear mind and a calm heart to make right decisions, that you may do all with tenderness and wisdom as a faithful steward.
We cannot command the Lord, for His way is perfect, but we may cast all our care upon Him, for He cares for us. If it be His will to raise her up, He can do it with a word. If it be His will to take her, we must bow before His sovereignty, trusting that He does all things well. So we ask that if healing be not His purpose, He would spare her needless suffering and spare you the sore burden of that hard choice, and that whether by recovery or by a gentle taking away in sleep, His will may be done and His comfort may be yours.
This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has quickened me. Take that Word and plead it. He has said, Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. When you sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto you. Roll this under your tongue as a sweet morsel, that though for the present your trial seems not joyous but grievous, afterward it shall yield blessed fruit to those who are exercised thereby.
May the Lord hear your desperate cries and pleas, may He answer according to His infinite mercy and wisdom, and may He give you peace in Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. In Jesus name we ask all these things. Amen.
