Please pray for my financial situation. I have a wonderful job I make good money. I helped my two youngest get on their feet after their dad passed, I now have credit card debt to pay off. I'm getting older I'm single living on one income; I will never tell them I'm in debt. I don't like to burden others with my problems. We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in prayer before the throne of grace. Your selflessness in helping your children get on their feet after such a profound loss, losing their father, reveals a mother’s love that reflects the very heart of God. Yet we must gently remind you that carrying this burden alone is not what the Lord intends for you. Scripture tells us, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). You are not meant to bear this weight in silence; the body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).

Your desire to protect your children from worry is noble, but we must also speak truth: debt is not a sin, but it can become a snare when it leads to fear, isolation, or despair. The enemy would love for you to believe you are alone in this, but we serve a God who owns "the cattle on a thousand hills" (Psalm 50:10) and promises to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We rebuke the spirit of depression and financial fear in Jesus’ mighty name, this is not your portion!

Let us pray:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister, lifting up her financial situation to You. Lord, You see her heart, her generosity, her love for her children, and her desire to honor You even in this struggle. We ask that You would open doors of provision, wisdom, and favor. Give her a plan to tackle this debt with clarity and peace, and surround her with godly counsel if she needs it. Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell her she is alone or that this burden is too heavy. Remind her that You are her Provider, her Strong Tower, and her Peace. Fill her with hope and the assurance that You are working all things together for her good. We ask for supernatural breakthrough, not just for her finances, but for her heart to rest in Your sufficiency. In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."

Now, let us offer some practical and biblical encouragement. First, we urge you to seek wise counsel, perhaps from a trusted financial advisor or a mature believer who can help you create a budget or debt-repayment plan. Proverbs 24:3-4 says, "By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." You are not meant to figure this out alone.

Second, we gently caution against seeking financial help through platforms like Venmo from strangers. While we understand the desperation you may feel, Scripture warns us to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves (Matthew 10:16). There are godly resources available, churches, Christian financial ministries, or even low-interest loans from reputable institutions, that can help without putting you at risk.

Third, we encourage you to bring this burden into the light. You do not have to share every detail with your children, but consider confiding in a trusted friend or pastor. James 5:16 reminds us, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed." You are not a burden, you are a beloved child of God, and His people are called to support one another.

Lastly, we want to remind you of the hope we have in Christ. If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life fully to Him. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Salvation is found in no one else, and it is only through His name that we have access to the Father (Acts 4:12). If you have never prayed to receive Christ as your Savior, we would love to guide you in that decision today.

You are not forgotten. You are not alone. The God who parted the Red Sea, who fed the five thousand with a boy’s lunch, and who raised Jesus from the dead is the same God who sees you and loves you. He will make a way where there seems to be no way. Keep your eyes on Him, dear sister, and trust that He is working even now.

Thank you for trusting us with this. We hear how heavy this feels, and we are sorry you are carrying it alone. You have loved your children well, and the debt came from that love, not from carelessness. That is worth holding onto.

Father, you see this woman carrying a burden she has not shared with anyone. You know her love for her children and her desire to protect them. Please lift the weight of this ### and give her wise, practical help for the debt. Surround her with someone she can trust, and give her peace as she takes one small step at a time. The Lord sees your anxiety, and He is not indifferent to it. You have helped your children at real cost to yourself, and now you are older, alone, and carrying the weight of that kindness. I will pray for you with my whole heart.

But I must point you first to a deeper payment. The credit card debt is not your true danger. Your true danger was the debt of sin, and Christ has paid it in His own body on the tree. If you are in Him, you are not a debtor to God's justice. Let that free you from the worst kind of depression, the fear that God is against you. He is for you.

Yet I must also say plainly: do not keep this entirely in the dark. You say you will never tell your children and do not like to burden others. I understand the desire not to trouble them, but isolation feeds despair. A trusted counselor or two, a wise older woman or a deacon, can help you make a plan. You need not announce your debts from the housetop, but you do need light and wisdom. Proverbs says there is safety in a multitude of counselors. Ask your church officers whether there is a benevolence fund or a faithful deacon who handles such matters. Many churches keep help for those in straits, and even if they cannot clear the debt, they can counsel and pray with you.

Use the ordinary means God has given you. You have a good income, and that is mercy. Take account of every dollar, cut all extravagance, pay more than the minimum, sell anything that can be spared, and seek honest financial advice. Do not wait for a sudden gift; wait on God while you work. He may send ravens, but He also expects you to go to the brook. Faith uses means.

For the depression I pray especially. The enemy would use shame to keep you from the throne of grace. Come still, with your heavy heart. Tell the Lord, I am afraid and in debt, and I have brought myself low, yet You are merciful. Give me a single eye to live for You. Teach me to owe no man anything but love.

Let us pray. Lord, You see this dear soul, aging, alone, anxious, and ashamed. She helped her children and now carries the cost. Break the power of secrecy and shame. Send her wise counsel, steady discipline, and a clear path out of debt. Give her daily bread and a heart that rests in the receipt of her sins, paid by Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thank you for trusting us with this burden and for sharing so honestly about your situation. Your love for your children after the loss of their father and your desire not to burden others shows a generous heart, and God sees both your generosity and the weight you are carrying now as a single income household facing debt and worry about the future.

We are praying for you, for wisdom in stewardship, for provision, and for peace in place of the deep discouragement you described. Scripture reminds us that our heavenly Father knows our needs and invites us to bring our anxieties to Him, and that He also calls us to bear one another's burdens in community. Father in heaven, we thank You for Your mercy and for forgiving us a debt we could never repay through Jesus Christ. We bring our sister before You. You know her work, her love for her family, her debt, and her feelings of depression and age and pressure as she provides alone. Grant her wisdom to steward what You have provided, peace that guards her heart, hope for the days ahead, and practical help through wise counsel and community. Provide for her daily needs and guide her steps out of debt. Comfort her with Your presence and remind her that she is not forgotten. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Many find help through a debt snowball or avalanche approach, focusing extra payments on one debt at a time while paying minimums on the rest. A nonprofit credit counseling agency affiliated with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling can offer free or low cost budgeting help and can help you understand options without charging high fees. You might also ask your local church pastor or benevolence ministry about financial coaching classes such as Financial Peace University or Crown Financial Ministries materials, which teach biblical principles for handling money.

For support with discouragement and depression, please reach out to a trusted pastor, counselor, or doctor soon. If you ever feel unsafe, please contact a trusted person right away or call or text 988 in the United States and Canada to reach a crisis helpline, or your local helpline if you are elsewhere. Talking with one wise and trustworthy person, even if not your children, can lighten the load and bring perspective. Galatians encourages us to bear one another's burdens, and God often uses community to do that.
