I feel like I need to divorce my husband, but I am scared. I don’t want to make a mistake. Why did he get so sick? I wish he could get better and go back to work. He refuses to do the right thing. I don’t want it to impact me. Please protect me. I don’t know what to do. It is not fair.
 
We hear the pain and confusion in your heart, and we stand with you in seeking God’s wisdom and comfort in this difficult season. The weight of caring for a spouse who is unwell—physically, emotionally, or spiritually—can feel overwhelming, especially when it seems like the marriage is not reflecting the love, respect, and partnership God designed it to be. We want to encourage you with truth and pray over you with hope, but we must also speak honestly about what Scripture teaches regarding marriage, submission, and God’s heart for healing—both in your husband and in your own heart.

First, we must address the foundation of your relationship with God. The Bible tells us, *"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His name that we are saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we urge you to surrender your life to Him, confessing your sins and trusting in His sacrifice for your salvation. This is the first step in finding true peace and direction, no matter what circumstances you face.

Marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). It is not meant to be broken lightly, and Scripture is clear that divorce is only permitted in specific circumstances, such as sexual immorality (Matthew 19:9) or abandonment by an unbelieving spouse (1 Corinthians 7:15). However, even in these cases, reconciliation and forgiveness are God’s heart for His people. The Bible says, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). If there has been unfaithfulness or other sin in your marriage, we must rebuke that in Jesus’ name and call for repentance, but we also must pray for restoration if it is possible.

You mentioned that your husband "refuses to do the right thing." This is deeply concerning. If he is a believer, he is called to love you as Christ loves the Church, to provide for his family (1 Timothy 5:8), and to live in a way that honors God. If he is not a believer, the Bible encourages you to stay with him, if possible, so that he may be won over by your godly example (1 Peter 3:1-2). However, if his actions are sinful, abusive, or unrepentant, we must confront that sin with truth. *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). If he is not walking with the Lord, his choices may be influenced by darkness, and we must pray for his salvation and repentance.

You also asked, *"Why did he get so sick?"* This is a question many of us wrestle with when faced with suffering. The Bible does not always give us clear answers, but it does remind us that God is sovereign and works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Sickness is not always a result of personal sin (John 9:3), but it can be an opportunity for God to reveal His power and glory. We must pray for healing—physical, emotional, and spiritual—for your husband. *"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord"* (James 5:14 WEB). If he is unwilling to seek help or turn to God, that is a matter of his own heart, but we must continue to pray for him and trust God’s timing.

You expressed fear about making a mistake and not wanting the situation to impact you. It is natural to feel this way, but we must guard our hearts against bitterness, resentment, or self-protection that leads us away from God’s will. *"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it"* (Proverbs 4:23 WEB). If you are considering divorce, we urge you to seek godly counsel from your pastor or a trusted Christian mentor. Do not make this decision in isolation or out of fear. *"Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established"* (Proverbs 15:22 WEB).

We also want to gently rebuke any spirit of entitlement or resentment in your heart. You said, *"It is not fair."* While we understand the pain behind those words, the Bible reminds us that life is not always fair, but God is just. *"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts"* (Isaiah 55:8-9 WEB). Instead of focusing on what feels unfair, we must ask God to help us trust Him and walk in obedience, even when it is hard.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this sister in Christ who is struggling in her marriage. Lord, You see her pain, her fear, and her confusion. We ask that You would draw near to her and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we pray for her husband—that You would soften his heart, heal his body, and draw him to repentance if he has strayed from Your will. If there is sin in his life, we rebuke it in Jesus’ name and ask for Your conviction to lead him to righteousness.

Lord, we ask for wisdom for this sister. Show her what steps to take, whether it is to stand firm in prayer, seek godly counsel, or take action to protect herself and her family. Give her the strength to forgive, the courage to confront sin if necessary, and the faith to trust You with the outcome. Father, if divorce is not Your will for her, we ask that You would restore her marriage and make it a testimony of Your grace. If it is Your will for her to walk away, we ask that You would go before her and make her path clear.

Protect her heart from bitterness, fear, and resentment. Fill her with Your love and remind her that she is not alone. Surround her with believers who will support and encourage her. Lord, we also pray for provision—if her husband is unable to work, we ask that You would open doors of opportunity for her and meet every need according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).

We declare that no weapon formed against her will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You will use this trial for her good and Your glory. Help her to fix her eyes on You, Jesus, the author and perfecter of her faith (Hebrews 12:2). We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

Sister, we want to leave you with this encouragement: *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"* (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB). You are not alone in this. God sees you, He loves you, and He will guide you if you seek Him with all your heart. Continue to pray, seek His Word, and surround yourself with godly people who can walk with you through this valley. If your husband’s illness or choices are causing you harm—emotionally, spiritually, or physically—do not hesitate to seek help. God does not call you to endure abuse or enable sin. Stand firm in His truth, and trust Him to lead you.
 
Dear friend, we're here with you in this heavy moment. We understand the fear and uncertainty that comes with seeing your husband sick and feeling like you're at a crossroads. We want you to know that you're not alone, and we're lifting you up in prayer.

We've been thinking about your situation and we want to share a few more things with you. First, we want to remind you of God's unfailing love for you. In Lamentations 3:22-23, it says, "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." God sees you, He loves you, and He is with you every step of the way.

We also want to encourage you to keep communicating with your husband. Even if he's not receptive right now, keep planting those seeds of love and concern. Ephesians 4:15 tells us to "speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ." So, speak the truth to him, but do it in love.

Remember, too, that God is the ultimate healer. We should always seek medical help when needed, but we also trust in God's power to heal. In Psalm 147:3, it says, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Trust that God is at work, even if you can't see it right now.

Lastly, we want to remind you to take care of yourself too. It's easy to pour all our energy into caring for others, but we need to make sure we're also filling our own cups. Make sure you're getting rest, eating well, and spending time in God's Word and in prayer. You need strength for this journey, and God wants to give it to you.

We're praying for you, dear friend. We're asking God to heal your husband, to give you wisdom, and to fill you with His peace and strength. We're trusting that He will guide you every step of the way. Keep holding on to Him, and remember that He is always with you.

Praying for you and your request in Jesus. Did you know there are promises we can claim in Jesus over our spouses in the book of Hosea?

Have we ever really meditated on Matthew 6 where Jesus instructs us to take no thought for our lives? I have looked at this in terms of the rest of the Bible where I have learned to claim His Promises in Jesus and take on His thoughts for my life. Thank You Lord Jesus for Blessing me to learn to stop thinking about my life, learn to take on Your thoughts for my life and so much more for Your Glory and my good in Jesus! Amen! Thank You Jesus! There is nothing that happens for us that is bad except our thoughts about what is happening to us. The Bible says All things work together for our good in Jesus! Look at everything as good!

It doesn't matter how we sound, Angels will join in with us and Jesus will join in with us as well as fight for us, knock down walls for us, open locks for us, save people for us, evil will flee from us, He heals us and He will over flow His Holy Peace in us.

I wanted to commit suicide once, I even came up with a plan. Right before I headed out the door I posted a prayer on here and hoping there might be help from God one last time I opened the Bible and only read take no thought for your life from Matthew 6. I read that before at least 100 times but never really could understand how. This time I took it to heart, all right God I will end my life by not thinking about it. I take no thought, I take no thought, I take no thought over and over and over again I take no thought was my only thought that day. All of a sudden I noticed something, Jesus showed up, all my pains were gone, no neck ache, no back pain, no leg pain from many many accidents I had over the years and no pain in my heart as my wife had left me. I started singing praises and thanks to Jesus and my life has never been the same. My wife returned. It is our obedience to God from His Holy Instructions that makes a difference to His Power of His Promises in our lives.

Be a doer of Jesus friend, it really makes a difference! Thank You Lord Jesus! All things work together for my good in Jesus!

Search the Bible for Jesus' Promises friend, do them and claim them in Jesus! Amen! Thank You Lord Jesus! Glory to You Lord Jesus!!!

Powerful healing promise hidden in Proverbs 3:7-8, I am not wise in my own eyes, I fear You Lord, I depart from evil, especially my own evil thoughts and my flesh is healed and my body is refreshed in Jesus.

Praying for others especially in your situation will help you tremendously in yours friend.

Take no thought for your life dear friend and Jesus will take thought for you. Sing praises and thanks to Jesus and He will overflow His Holy Spirit in you and so much more. He will fight for you and give you the desires of your heart.

Let Us Pray: God I ask in Jesus' name, bless me to grow closer to You. I long for a more intimate relationship with You. God I take You at Your Word, if I will draw closer to You, You will draw closer to me (James 4:8). Show me how to draw closer to You. Bless me daily to cast off and forsake my thoughts and ways for my life, and exchange them for Your thoughts and ways for my life. Let me think Your thoughts and dream Your dreams for my life. God bless me to live and walk in Your love, mercy and forgiveness (Isaiah 55:7). I confess, I will take no thought for my life. I will trust You Father God to take thought for me and take care of me (Mathew 6:25-34). I will not be wise in my own eyes, I will fear You Lord and depart from evil and my flesh will be healed and my body will be refreshed (Proverbs 3:7-8) daily. Thank You Jesus for Your Promises! Lord make me the Child of God You need me to be in Christ for all those around me and for the world to see (Psalms 128:3). Not by my might, nor by my power, but by Your Spirt Christ Jesus (Zechariah 4:6) this shall happen. And it will happen, it is happening now in Your timing, Power, Strength, Might, and Spirit, Christ Jesus. God all that I have asked of you in this prayer please do the same for all those I love, care about, and every faithful prayer warrior on this site. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Lord Jesus, my Savior and Lord for answering this prayer with a Yes and Amen.

Bless us to sing praises and thanks to You Lord Jesus so You can fill us with the wine of the Spirit in Jesus Name, Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
