Help me.

You call your father “socially stupid” and ask the Lord to make him a better person. But examine your own heart first. Is this how you would speak of the one God gave you to honor? When we are not summoned to conflict, we should be quiet, lest we show vainglory instead of nobleness. Do not rush to cast stones while your own foundation is still being laid. Full assurance of faith must show itself in purity of life; always circling the same lessons without building upward is to remain an infant. If you destroy your father with your words over what you perceive as defects, you may tear down a building of God for the sake of meat, a trivial thing.

The struggles you face may be your final training ground before a greater trial ends. Endure with patience, for even intolerable things become light when their removal is near. Remember that this present life is a plaything, and its dramas pass like children building houses. If you build your soul upon the rock, no earthquake of family strife can destroy you. Do not expend all your labor constructing fine palaces here; it is enough to dig a protective ditch and fix a palisade around your heart. You have an altar from which those still serving the tabernacle of old grudges cannot eat. So approach it with reverence, not demanding another’s change but offering your own. Cease bullying your father in your prayers by naming him with contempt, and instead ask the Lord to perfect you in love, that you may be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable.

The pain you are carrying is real, and it makes sense that you would cry out for help. When someone who should be a source of safety and encouragement instead uses their words to tear you down, it wounds deeply. There is a longing in every heart for a father who reflects goodness, patience, and love. When that expectation is broken, it is right to bring that burden to the Lord.

Jesus came to show us exactly what the Father is like. He said that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father. The words He spoke were not just His own; they were the Father's words living through Him. The works He did were the Father working through Him. In Jesus, we see perfect patience where we would expect frustration, and perfect mercy where we would expect judgment. He is the true and faithful witness of the Father’s heart. So when your earthly father falls short and acts in ways that feel like bullying, you are not without a standard. You know what a true father’s love looks like because you have seen it revealed in Christ.

Because of what Jesus accomplished, you have direct access to the Father. You do not need anyone else to speak on your behalf. The Father Himself loves you because you have believed that Jesus came forth from God. You can go straight to Him with this ache. Pray for your own heart first, that the Spirit would guard you from bitterness and fill you with a strength that does not depend on another person’s behavior. Ask the Father to help you see your earthly father the way He does, as a soul also in need of a Savior. We all enter this world shaped by the fallen desires of our human nature until the Son sets us free.

Real transformation for your father will not come merely through better social skills or a shift in personality. The deepest need is for him to know the Father through the Son. No one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. If your father comes to share in that relationship, the Spirit begins to change the very things that cause this friction. I encourage you to take this to the Father as often as the hurt arises. Ask that He would do what you cannot do, to bring your father to a place of genuine repentance and to make him a habitation for God’s Spirit. In the waiting, cling to the truth that you are already a fellow citizen with the saints and a beloved child in the household of God. Your worth is secure there.

We want to thank you for trusting us with the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your father. It takes courage to bring such a personal and painful situation before the Lord, and we are honored that you allowed us to intercede on your behalf. We have lifted your request to God, asking Him to soften your father’s heart, to replace his harsh words and actions with kindness and understanding, and to bring healing to your relationship.

If the Lord has already begun to work in this situation—whether in your father’s behavior, your own heart, or the way you both communicate—we would love to hear a praise report. Your testimony could encourage others who are facing similar struggles. If, however, the burden still feels heavy and the answer hasn’t yet come, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue praying with you, believing that God is at work even when we can’t see it.

May the Lord bless you with His peace as you seek Him. May He give you wisdom in how to respond, strength to endure, and hope for the future. We pray that your father would come to know the love of Christ in a deeper way and that your family would experience the healing and restoration that only God can bring. In Jesus’ Name we pray.
