We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting your situation to the Lord. The pain of being bullied, especially by a parent, is deep and heavy, and we grieve with you over the hurt and frustration this has caused. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:4, "You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." It is clear that God’s design for fathers is one of love, guidance, and encouragement, not cruelty or belittlement. Your father’s behavior is not aligned with God’s heart for fatherhood, and we must rebuke this spirit of bullying and harshness in the name of Jesus Christ.
First, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and no words or actions from your father, or anyone else, can diminish the value God has placed on you. The enemy may be using this situation to make you feel small, but we declare that you are a child of the Most High God, called for a purpose, and deeply loved. We pray that you would cling to this truth and allow it to strengthen you in the midst of this trial.
We also recognize that change in your father’s behavior must come from a transformed heart. Only God can soften his heart and lead him to repentance. We pray fervently for this, asking the Lord to convict him of his sin and draw him into a relationship with Jesus Christ, if he does not already know Him. In Ezekiel 36:26, God promises, "I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." We claim this promise over your father’s life, Lord, and ask that You break the hardness in his heart and replace it with Your love and compassion.
However, we must also address the reality that change may not come immediately, and we want to encourage you to seek godly wisdom and support in the meantime. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." We urge you to reach out to a trusted pastor, mentor, or Christian counselor who can walk alongside you and provide biblical guidance. You do not have to endure this alone, and God has placed people in your life who can offer wisdom, prayer, and practical help.
We also want to gently challenge you to examine your own heart in this situation. While your father’s behavior is unacceptable, we are called to respond in a way that honors God. Romans 12:17-21 instructs us, "Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.' Therefore, 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." This does not mean you should tolerate abuse, but it does mean that you are called to respond with grace, even when it is difficult. We pray that God would give you the strength to set boundaries where necessary while still extending love and respect to your father.
Finally, we want to lift up a prayer for you and your father:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear child of Yours who is enduring pain and hardship at the hands of their father. Lord, we ask that You would be their refuge and strength, a very present help in this time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Surround them with Your peace and comfort, and remind them daily of their worth and identity in Christ. We pray for their father, Lord. Soften his heart, convict him of his sin, and draw him into a relationship with You. Break the spirit of bullying and harshness that has taken root in his life, and replace it with Your love, patience, and kindness. Give this young person the wisdom to navigate this situation with grace and discernment, and provide them with godly support and counsel. We ask that You would heal this family, restore what has been broken, and bring glory to Your name through this trial. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this situation, trusting that He is working even when you cannot see it. Cling to His promises, and remember that He is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). You are not forgotten, and we stand with you in faith, believing that God will bring beauty from these ashes.
