Help me get a job

Your prayer for work has been heard, and God cares about this need. The desire to provide through honest work is good and right, and He invites you to bring that request to Him.

The story of Job speaks to what you are feeling. That book is very old, going back perhaps to the time of Abraham, yet the deep questions it raises are the same ones we face today. Job was a man whom God Himself described as upright, one who loved God and turned away from evil. God noticed him and spoke well of him. The adversary had been watching Job closely and formed an idea about him, that Job only honored God because God had put a hedge of protection and blessing around him and made him prosperous. He argued that if those blessings were removed, Job would turn away.

The Lord allowed Job to be tested, and Job lost much. What followed shows us two important truths for your situation. First, hardship is not always a sign that God is displeased with you. Job's friends came to comfort him, but they ended up accusing him. They insisted that suffering must mean hidden sin or hypocrisy, and they told him to get right with God and then everything would be fixed. They were wrong. God later corrected them. Being without work does not mean you are a failure before God or that He has rejected you. Do not carry that false guilt.

Second, it is possible to be honest about not understanding while still trusting God. Job cried out that his grief felt heavier than the sand of the sea. He did not understand why this was happening, and he said many things out of sorrow that were not settled truth but the voice of his pain. Yet through it all he did not curse God or accuse Him of being unjust. He knew God is fair and just even when he could not see how God was working. Scripture shows that God is at work even when it feels as though He has forsaken us. He had not abandoned Job, and He has not abandoned you.

Job also longed for someone to stand between him and God, to bring him near. That longing is answered in Jesus Christ, who alone can bring us to God. Through Him you can come directly to the Father with your need for provision, forgiveness, and guidance, not on the basis of your own goodness but on the basis of what Jesus has done.

So I will pray for you, that God will open a door for suitable work, give you wisdom as you apply and interview, provide for your daily needs in the meantime, and give you peace as you trust Him. Continue to seek Him first, be diligent in doing what you can each day, and be open to His leading. He sees you, He knows your situation fully, and He is faithful to care for His children.
