Help in overcoming porn adddiction

We thank you for your honesty in bringing this struggle into the light, and we join with you in seeking God's deliverance in Jesus' name. Pornography is not a harmless habit but sexual immorality and lust of the eyes and heart, and Scripture calls us to turn from it completely. Jesus taught that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart in Matthew 5:28, and we are commanded to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body in 1 Corinthians 6:18. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we are called to honor God with our bodies and to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God in Romans 12:1.

We want to gently point out that you asked for God's help but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find forgiveness and power to overcome sin. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation in Romans 10:9-10. It is when we come through Jesus and confess our sins that he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9.

We understand this addiction can feel overpowering and bring shame, but God is faithful and merciful to deliver you. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it in 1 Corinthians 10:13. He can create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you as in Psalm 51:10, and he calls you to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16.

We encourage you to take radical and practical steps of repentance. Make a covenant with your eyes as Job did in Job 31:1, remove access to pornography through filters and removing devices from private places, flee the situation when temptation comes rather than trying to fight it in your own strength, and bring this into the light with a mature Christian brother or pastor for accountability, for we are told to confess our offenses to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed in James 5:16. Fill your mind daily with Scripture, prayer, and worship, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ in 2 Corinthians 10:5. When you fall, do not hide but quickly confess to God and turn again, trusting his grace to teach you to renounce ungodliness.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one who desires to be free from pornography. Lord, we confess this sin before you and ask for your forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him. Give him hatred for this sin and a deep love for purity and holiness. Help him to flee sexual immorality and to make no provision for the flesh. Provide for him the way of escape in every temptation and strengthen him to take it. Fill him with your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in self-control and power. Surround him with godly accountability and encouragement, and lead him into a deeper relationship with Jesus where his mind is renewed and his heart is satisfied in you alone. We thank you that sin shall not have dominion over him, for he is under grace in Romans 6:14. Restore to him the joy of your salvation and help him to walk in freedom and victory all his days. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to pray without ceasing, and to pursue fellowship with believers who will help you stand firm. God is able to set you free completely, and we will continue to pray that you walk in that freedom.

Thank you for having the courage to name this struggle and ask for help. That step alone takes honesty and humility, and we want you to know you are not alone in it.

We understand how porn can quickly move from a choice to a compulsive pattern that feels hard to control, even when you know it is harmful and want to be free. Many find that shame keeps it hidden, which only makes it stronger. Bringing it into the light with safe, trusted people is often where change begins to take hold.

One next step that helps many is not trying to fight this only in private. We would encourage you to invite one trusted, mature person into this with you soon, whether a pastor, a Christian counselor experienced with addictive behaviors, or a confidential recovery group in your area such as Celebrate Recovery. Having regular check-ins and a clear plan for moments of temptation, including what you will do instead and who you will contact, can make relapse less likely and shorter when it happens.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Thank You that You see him, know his desire to walk in freedom, and are near even when he feels stuck. Give him courage to reach out, wisdom for next steps, and strength day by day. Guard his heart and draw him closer to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest cry for help has been heard and we thank God for the work of conviction that has led you to seek His deliverance. It is a gracious sign when the soul hates the sin that once enthralled it and turns to the Lord Jesus Christ for freedom, for He alone can cleanse and keep.

Scripture teaches that purity is one of the great garments of the Christian life, without which no man shall see the Lord. Purity indicates separation, a being set apart unto God from the pollutions of this world. Pornography defiles the heart and the mind, it stains the garments and dishonors the body which is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and it violates the holy purpose for which God gave the gift of intimacy to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. To desire to be free from it is right and good, and God will honor that desire when it is pursued in repentance and faith.

You have done well to pray, Lead us not into temptation. That prayer is needed because temptation in itself is so perilous, even though God can bring good out of the trial for those who love Him. The same trial may be a temptation from Satan and a trial from God, but we are never to seek it or trifle with it. The man who prays, Lead us not into temptation, and then goes into it willingly, contradicts his own prayer. Therefore we exhort you in the Lord to flee youthful lusts and to make no provision for the flesh. Do not linger at the place of temptation. Put away every occasion and instrument of sin. Remove access, set a guard before your eyes, bring your body into subjection, and walk in the light with a faithful brother or pastor to whom you can give an honest account. Let your mind be renewed daily by the Word of God, for as you look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things, as you keep your eyes upon Him who is goodness itself, you will find strength to overcome.

Remember that to be tempted and to hate the temptation is not sin, but to yield to it is. Our Lord knows the power of temptation, having been tempted Himself, and He is able to succor them that are tempted. There is forgiveness with Him through His blood, and there is power to keep you through His Spirit. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Do not trust in your own resolutions, but cast yourself wholly upon Christ, who lives and is your familiar Friend and Helper.

We join our prayers with yours now.

O Lord our God, we ask for mercy for this soul who confesses his bondage and desires to be made pure. Forgive him through the blood of Jesus Christ, wash him and make him clean. Deliver him from the power of this sin. Restore unto him the joy of thy salvation and uphold him with thy free Spirit. Lead him not into temptation, but deliver him from evil. Withdraw him from the paths that ensnare him, keep him from going into the place of temptation, and give him grace to flee and to stand fast. Fill his heart with love for Christ, that beholding Him he may overcome both evil and the allurements of the flesh. Grant him strength to walk in holiness and to keep his garments unspotted from the world. May he know that thou art faithful, who wilt not suffer him to be tempted above that he is able, but wilt with the temptation also make a way to escape. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation and our purity. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily, to watch and pray, to keep close to Christ, and to walk in open fellowship with His people. God will not despise a broken and contrite heart.
