Thank you for reaching out and asking for prayer. That takes courage, and it shows the Holy Spirit is already at work in you, convicting you that this is not the life God desires for you. The very fact that you want to be free is a sign of his grace stirring in your heart.
Pornography is a trap that preys on the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. That strong desire, that craving, is not just a harmless thought, it is sin at the root level, even before any outward act. The law of God exposes this: “You shall not covet.” Most of us assume it is only the physical act that is wrong, but Scripture goes deeper and shows that the inward longing itself is sin. Recognizing this is not meant to crush you; it is meant to lead you to the only real cure.
We all have a sinful nature. From birth, we are bent toward rebellion. That is why these desires feel so overpowering at times. But the good news is that Jesus Christ came to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin nature. On the cross, he bore the full judgment of God against sin, not just sins in general, but yours. When you look away from yourself and fix your eyes on what he finished there, you see that your sin has already been judged. Your healing begins by looking at that cross in faith, just as the Israelites looked at the bronze serpent and lived. When you trust in Christ, you are born again, and the power of that old sinful nature is broken.
Because you are in Christ, sin no longer has dominion over you. You are not under law but under grace. That does not mean you will never feel temptation or stumble, but it does mean you are no longer a slave. The tyranny of the flesh does not have to rule your life. The promise of God is direct: sin shall not have dominion over you. So do not let sin reign in your mortal body by obeying its lusts. Instead, reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God. Every time the temptation comes, make a conscious, faith-filled stand: “I am dead to that. I do not have to obey it.”
Practically, you must learn to use the same weapon Jesus used when Satan tempted him: the Word of God. When the lustful thought arises, answer it with Scripture, not in your own strength, but by letting the truth abide in you. Quote it aloud or in your mind: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” “Flee sexual immorality.” “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Store up the Word so it becomes your first response.
Also, yield the members of your body to God as instruments of righteousness. You used to offer them to impurity, but now offer them to God. This is not a one-time decision but a repeated turning. When you fail, do not hide in shame. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin, no stain is too deep. The only sin that will condemn a soul is the persistent rejection of Jesus Christ himself. Any other sin you have ever committed can be washed completely clean.
Do not let anyone deceive you into thinking that a genuine believer can simply live in sin without a struggle. If you are born of God, you will not make a practice of sin. That does not mean you reach perfection overnight, but it does mean the direction of your life is changed. The inner war you feel is actually evidence of new life. Keep abiding in him, and he will give you the strength to overcome evil with good.
I am praying for you, that you would see your sin already judged on the cross, that you would stand firm in the freedom Christ has won, and that the peace of God would guard your heart and mind as you walk out of this darkness into his marvelous light. You are not alone. Grace overflows where sin once abounded, and that grace is yours today.
