There is great cause for thanksgiving in what you have written, for you give the glory where it is due, even to our Lord Jesus Christ, who has wrought a great improvement in you. We join you in praising Him, for deliverance from sin is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He brought you forth, and willing as you are to be moved, it is still true that He did it, and He must have all the praise.
We have heard your cry, and the tears you have poured out are not hidden from Him who hears prayer. You have felt the bitter pedigree of sin, that when lust has conceived it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. Any sin, if we cling to it and love it, will bring forth death, rest assured of that. And you have also tasted that the cup of lust is a poison so terrible that it makes the very bones to rot. Yet you have also tasted mercy, and you desire a lasting and true deliverance for the glory of God. This desire itself is a work of grace in your heart.
Remember that charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity, and purity must not be put aside. Without holiness no man shall see the Lord. In vain should we do all other things if we do not walk in the way of holiness. By regeneration you are made partaker of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust, and that higher nature lifts you up into familiarity with God. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification, for as we are justified through Jesus Christ, we must also expect to receive sanctification from a heavenly source. We must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone.
And here is your hope, that God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but He has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty of all iniquities, and when God Himself proclaims, I have found a ransom, then deliverance is certain, indeed it is already accomplished. The clock of mercy has struck in heaven the hour of deliverance for all who trust in Him. This deliverance came when the Lamb was slain.
Let us pray for you as you have asked.
O Lord our God, we thank Thee for what Thou hast already wrought in this soul, for every victory over pornography and uncleanness is Thy work. Perfect what Thou hast begun. Grant a complete and abiding deliverance, not by mere resolve of the flesh, but by Thy Spirit. Renew the mind, according to Thy word, that it may be transformed and made wise to hate every false way and to flee from youthful lusts. Make this one very wise with the wisdom that is from above, which is first pure, that these sins may be put far away forever. Speak, Lord, in mercy, give understanding, and keep the heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Teach the feet to walk in the covenant way Thou hast ordained, where Thou hast set marriage to be the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and hast appointed all intimacy to belong within that holy bond, and outside it to be forsaken. Let purity be kept there, and let the heart be kept chaste before Thee. Let the eyes be turned away from vanity and fixed upon Christ, who is alive and is our familiar Friend, to whom we look for all things. Overcome this soul with Thy goodness, and let faith steadily look to Thee for deliverance, until Thou shalt say, Turn away thy eyes from Me, for they have overcome Me.
Take courage, for the believer's conduct after affliction and after deliverance is to live and declare the works of the Lord. If we had no troubles we would have less to declare. What you have suffered and what you have received in mercy will yet give you a song of deliverance, a richer theme for music than Deborah had, for you have been delivered from worse enemies and saved by a greater salvation. Continue to watch and pray, to keep the Word before your eyes, to flee the occasions of sin, and to walk in the light. Rest your soul upon Christ alone, and God will yet come to your deliverance, and you shall not die but live, and declare what He has done.
