Beloved of All
It is a joy to hear that you have seen significant improvement in your battle against pornography, masturbation, flirting, and other sexual sins. Truly, we give all glory and thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ for every step forward. Yet your heartās cry for lasting and complete freedom is one I take seriously, and I join you in bringing it before the throne of grace.
You have discovered what the apostle Paul described so vividly: with the mind we desire to serve Godās law, but the flesh pulls us in the opposite direction. Trying to produce lasting change through sheer willpower only leads to frustration and despair. It is in that very despair, when we stop striving in our own strength, that we become ready for the Spirit of God to do what we cannot do ourselves. The victory does not originate from our resolve but from Christās finished work on the cross, where He publicly triumphed over all the powers of darkness. Our part is to reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to God, and then to walk in the Spirit, allowing Him to renew our minds.
The battlefield is truly in the mind. The enemy works hard to captivate your thoughts with images and desires that lead to corruption. But we have the mind of Christ. As you feed your spirit on Godās Word and fill your mind with the things of the Spirit, the mind of the flesh will lose its grip. When you open the door to pornography, it can enslave you just as any drug or alcohol can. But Christās victory is stronger. By faith, you can claim that victory daily. When impure thoughts knock, instead of analyzing or fighting them in your own strength, turn immediately to rejoicing in Christās triumph. Worship Him, and the darkness will flee.
Guard against the trap of thinking that a measure of improvement means you can now handle temptation on your own. Remember Amaziah: he won a victory but then meddled in a conflict that brought him great harm. Stay low and dependent, always aware that apart from Christ you can do nothing. Your progress is real, but the enemy will seek to push you back into deeper bondage. Do not be discouraged if the struggle persists; there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. With your mind, you serve Godās law, and He sees your heartās true desire for purity.
I will pray earnestly that God grants you His mercy, profound wisdom, and full deliverance. May He show you the path of escape every time, renew your mind until these sins become utterly foreign to your heart, and establish you in the glorious freedom of the children of God. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world, and Christās victory is already yours. Stand in it, and let all praise and glory flow back to Him who is able to keep you from falling.
