Your prayer for him is beautiful and right, and God hears it. It is encouraging that you are asking the Lord to keep working on his heart, because Scripture teaches that it is God who works within a person both to give the desire and to give the ability to turn to Him. We can plant and water and love and pray, but only the Lord can open a heart.
The name Jesus itself tells us who He is and what He does. It means the Lord is salvation. He is the Lord come in the flesh, the anointed one, and there is no other way to be made alive. The Bible defines real life as being one with God. To be separated from Him is to be dead even while breathing, but to be joined to Him through Christ is to truly live. That is why salvation through Jesus alone is such a great gift, and why we should not treat it lightly.
The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared, and Scripture says now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation. So many intend to get right with God someday, but that delay is dangerous. Everyone who remains apart from Christ does so because they passed by the time God was speaking to them. For that reason your prayer that the Lord would lead him today is exactly right. Keep asking that he would not put off what God is offering now.
You can be confident as you pray that God already loves him with an everlasting love. He loved us even when we were still dead in our sins and sent His Son to taste death for us so that we would never have to be separated from Him. Jesus is the author and captain of our salvation, the one who began it and made the way, and every knee will one day confess that He is Lord.
As you wait and pray, follow the example Christ gave us. We are called to love as He loved and to forgive as He forgave, with kindness and a tender heart. That love is patient and does not keep a record of wrongs, and it lets your life show the same mercy you have received. Continue to show that kind of love to him while you pray, trusting that the Lord will keep working.
