Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer for a soft heart is good and pleasing to God, and He hears you when you ask it in the name of Jesus.
Scripture warns us to take heed lest there be in us an evil heart of unbelief, for a hardened heart becomes like callous skin that does not yield to the physician's hand, and does not yield to the word of God. To ask God to soften your heart is to ask Him to make you tender again to His voice, to His correction, and to His mercy.
We will pray for you that God would do this work in you. The way He softens the stubbornness of the soul is through repentance. His word teaches that godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. That sorrow is not mere feeling, but a turning to God that confesses sin honestly before Him, as it is written, declare your sins that you may be justified, and the righteous man is an accuser of himself at the first. The Church is like a bath for the soul, where God washes away stains not by our effort but by His grace as we come to Him in confession and faith.
So we pray for you now.
Father in heaven, we thank You for this heart that desires to be soft before You. In the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, who alone is our salvation, we ask You to take away hardness and give a heart of flesh. Grant godly sorrow for sin where it is needed, and grant repentance that leads to life. Forgive iniquity as it is confessed before You, and fill this heart with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and longsuffering toward others, even as Christ has forgiven us. Help this dear one to pray without ceasing and to watch and persevere, to hear Your word with eyes that see and ears that hear, and to walk in faith and not unbelief. Make this heart attentive to You and tender to Your Spirit. We ask this in the high name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Continue to bring this request to Him daily, stay in His word, and confess honestly before Him. He is faithful to soften what is hard and to give comfort and compassion to those who seek Him.
