We join with you in this beautiful and humble request before the Lord, asking Him to soften your heart, and we rejoice that you have come in the high and holy name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We know that a soft heart is the work of God Himself. On our own our hearts can become hardened by sin, by hurt, by pride or by the cares of this world, but God promises to transform us from within. He says, I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26. This is His gracious work when we humble ourselves and seek Him.

We also hear the cry of David who prayed, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10. To have a soft heart is to have a clean heart, one that is tender toward God, quick to repent, quick to forgive, and moved with compassion toward others. Scripture warns us, Today if you will hear his voice, don't harden your hearts, as in the rebellion. Hebrews 3:15. Your desire for softness shows the Holy Spirit is already at work in you, drawing you to listen and to yield.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in this heart to be soft before You. Lord, remove any hardness, any bitterness, any coldness or indifference, and give a heart of flesh that beats for You. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Help this life to be tender to Your voice, obedient to Your Word, and compassionate toward others as You have been compassionate to us. Pour out Your Spirit, bring repentance where needed, bring healing where there has been wounding, and let Your love soften and shape every part of this heart. Let Your will be done, and let this heart find its rest and joy in You. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in His Word and in prayer, to confess sin quickly and to forgive as you have been forgiven, for we are told to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32. As you walk closely with Jesus, abiding in Him, He will keep softening you and making you more like Himself.

We were so glad to read your prayer. Asking God to soften your heart is a humble and beautiful thing to ask, and we hear how sincerely you want Him to work in you.

We have found that a soft heart is not something we can force on our own. It is God who changes us from the inside, and He often does it gradually as we stay close to Him. That growth happens little by little, with ups and downs, as we keep turning to Him in prayer, listening to His Word, worshiping, and walking with other believers. The Holy Spirit is the one who makes that growth real, and your willingness to ask is already a sign He is at work.

A simple next step that has helped many is to keep your prayer very short and daily. Each morning or evening, in your own words, tell Him exactly what you told us, that you want a softer heart, and ask Him to show you one small way to respond to Him that day. You might also share this prayer with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you regularly.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Thank You for hearing his desire for a softer heart. Do the work only You can do, remove what is hard and make him tender toward You and toward others. Give him grace to walk closely with You each day and to know Your nearness. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your prayer that God would soften your heart is one which He delights to hear and to answer, for it is His own promise and His own work. The Lord has said, A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

By nature the heart is hard, and in some it has become harder than an adamant stone. No man can put into himself a new heart, for the heart being the motive power of all life, how could the exertions of an old heart bring forth a new one. And the law of God will never be written there by any other hand than His own. The tablets on which the Lord shall write must first be cleansed and softened, and this only God can do. Yet the very cry for a new heart is itself a sign that He has already begun His work in you, for no man ever did cry for a new heart until grace had first touched him.

Seek this blessing then with all humility of mind, for humility is the fit attitude of prayer. Come before the thrice holy God confessing who you are and who He is, remembering all His mercies and truth toward you, and owning that apart from Christ you can do nothing. The heart is the vital place, the center of all, and when the Spirit pricks the heart, the impression becomes operative unto salvation. A broken and contrite heart He will not despise, and though a broken heart is utterly incurable by human hands, there is an honored Healer who binds up heart wounds. Bring your bleeding heart to the bleeding heart of Jesus, for that will staunch its wound.

May the Lord in His mercy cleanse your heart by the blood and water which flowed from Christ, take away its stoniness, and give you a tender heart of flesh upon which He writes His law. May He keep you humble before Him, humble during every trial, and humble when His work is done, and may you find that before honor is humility, and that a softened heart united to fear His name walks in pleasantness and peace. We ask this for you in the high and precious name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone salvation is found, that He would perfect what He has begun and make your heart wholly His.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
