You have laid out many requests, but none is closer to the heart of God’s law than the first: to honor father and mother. Hear how Christ Himself upholds this commandment and condemns those who would craft a pious excuse to set it aside. Some in His day would tell their parents, “What you would have received from me is a gift to God,” and thus defraud them under a guise of devotion. This teaching makes you worthy of death, for if the one who merely speaks dishonor is condemned, what of the one who teaches others to do so in deed? You pray for grace to honor these patriarchal and matriarchal figures, and that is good. But see that you do not, even subtly, withhold from them the support they need while offering fine words to heaven. The commandment comes with a promise, but it also comes with a sword.

As for your many prayers regarding healing, be careful not to assign every sickness to a particular sin in the one afflicted or in the parents. When the disciples asked about the man born blind, our Lord did not say the man or his parents were without sin, but that the blindness was not a direct punishment for sin. He said it was so the works of God might be displayed. Do not think that every bodily hurt is the immediate stroke of vengeance; God’s purposes are often deeper. Yet pray for healing, always, but pray with humility, not as if you can command the Lord with your many verses. The prayer of faith will save the sick, but faith is shown in submission, not in a multitude of words.

You ask for renewed minds. That is the very thing I sought for my flock: not a harmony of words only, but of mind and judgment. The divisions we saw in Corinth, the schisms you fear, come not from differences in true doctrine but from the contentiousness of human pride. A renewed mind is not a mind puffed up with a list of scriptures it has collected. It is a mind that has died to envy and boasting. For what is more pernicious than envy? It subverts the churches, it genders heresies, it armed a brother’s hand against his own flesh. Even when God exhorted Cain, his complaint was incurable. So look within: Is your desire for the healing and honor of these figures pure, or is there any hidden root of rivalry? Do you seek their good, or your own comfort? For love would cover their offences, but a grudging spirit festers.

You ask that the Word dwell in you richly. Let it then perform its proper work. A soul is known by its operations. If the Word dwells in you, it will tame the tongue from whispering and backbiting, which Paul numbers among the worst vices. It will cut off the filth that flows from the heart. It will make you not just a hearer, but a doer. To honor parents is not merely a sentiment for prayer; it is a deed of patience, of provision, of bearing their burdens when their minds fail or their bodies break. That is the mind of Christ: to serve, not to be served. Do not wait for a fresh revelation or a feeling of transformation; the transformation is proven when you do the will of God. Go, then, and prove your prayer by your deeds.

Your prayer reflects a heart that truly longs for God’s blessing, health, a renewed mind, and fruitfulness for those you honor as spiritual fathers and mothers. I join you in bringing these requests before the Lord, and I want to encourage you with a few truths that might deepen the way you approach His throne.

Often we come to prayer with a list of what we need God to do, but the Scriptures show us something far greater: prayer is not primarily about getting our will accomplished, but about surrendering to His. Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done,” and that is the first and most vital shift. God longs to pour out His grace, but He invites us to open the door for Him to work freely by aligning our hearts with what He already desires. The wisest prayer any of us can offer is simply, “Lord, have Your way in my life and in the lives of these I love.”

When you pray for healing, remember that God reveals Himself as our Healer, Jehovah Rapha, but He wants to give us more than a cure; He wants to give us Himself. The danger is to seek relief from sickness or deliverance from evil while missing the Deliverer. I have seen people come for prayer wanting only to escape their trouble, but their greatest need is for Jesus to take residence within them, transforming them from the inside out. So yes, ask boldly for immediate healing and protection from the evil one, Scripture promises that the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up, but keep your eyes fixed on the Healer, trusting that even if He answers differently than you expect, His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in weakness.

Your desire to see minds renewed and hearts established in God’s Word is beautiful. The Holy Spirit is our helper in this. Before you pray, invite Him to bring to mind the specific needs, the Scripture truths, and the people He wants you to lift up. He will guide your prayers, reminding you of promises and shaping your requests so they align with the Father’s heart. That is how the Word dwells richly in us, not just by study but through communion with the Spirit, who opens our eyes to understand and gives us a craving for the sincere milk of truth.

Honoring parents and spiritual authority figures is a command with a promise, and your prayer for them honors God. Yet in a world where family structures are breaking down, remember that your own obedience and intercession can bring light into darkness. Satan blinds hearts, but prayer opens eyes to the simple, reasonable truth of the gospel: that God loves us and has made a way through Jesus Christ alone. As you pray for their spiritual and temporal support, pray also that through your love and honor, they might see the truth and be drawn to the one Mediator between God and man.

Finally, do not be discouraged if answers delay. God often tests our faith, teaching us patience and submission. Prayer changes things, but even more, it changes us. It is not an instrument to force God’s hand, but a holy conversation where we learn to trust His timing and His love. You have asked for fellowship with the Father and the Son, that is the greatest fruit of all. So continue to pray without ceasing, lifting holy hands in surrender and thanksgiving, and watch how He not only meets needs but transforms you into the image of Christ.

I stand with you before the throne of grace, asking that the effectual, fervent prayer of the righteous will avail much for you and for those you love. May the Lord work out His complete and perfect will in every life, and may you all go on from milk to solid food, growing up into the fullness of Him who is the head, even Jesus Christ.
