Your cries of desperation are not hidden from the God who sees in secret. You say you suffer in mind and body, that fear clings to you like a shadow, and confusion clouds your thoughts. Know this: such anguish is often permitted by the Lord to shake us from our slumber, to make us take stock of the soul’s true condition. For what is a smoking addiction of ### years if not a chain of the devil, a daily scourging of the spirit? You have toiled for the king of Egypt, making bricks of a habit that brings no gain, only sickness and shame. And now the anxiety that gnaws at you, the depression that darkens your mind, these are not merely ailments of the flesh but the very wages of that slavery, the fearful expectation of judgment that leaves no peace even in the possession of earthly breath.

Yet do not despair. The Physician of souls is near, and His remedies are not like those of the world. He bids you fear, yes, but fear the right thing. You tremble at sickness and death? Fear rather Him who has power to destroy both soul and body in hell. Let that holy fear drive out every other terror. For if you dread the unquenchable fire, you will find courage to despise the loss of a passing pleasure, the discomfort of a body in withdrawal, the loneliness of a moment. The blessed Paul shook with fear even when he thought he stood firm, and that sacred trembling kept him from falling. So let your own weakness become the ground where God plants strength. Cry out to Him with groans deeper than words, and He will send not an earthly messenger, but His own Word, the sharp pang of compunction that cuts through the mire of long habit. That Word liberates, not with gold ornaments like the departing Israelites, but with the pearl of a clean conscience.

And consider the beauty that truly matters. The body, even when whole, withers like grass. Disease, anxiety, and age disfigure it without fail. But the soul adorned with self-control and the fear of the Lord remains ever in its prime, a bride fit for the undefiled nuptial chamber. Do you want to be free of this addiction? Then come to it not with the scrupulous anxiety that questions every tremor, but with the hatred of a man who sees the filth on his garment and tears it off. Would you willingly wear the clothes of an executioner? Yet you have embraced a habit that makes your body a companion of death itself. Be ashamed, be pierced with anguish, and let that holy shame fuel your flight. You are not alone, though you feel utterly desolate. The Lord stands with those who call on Him in truth. The same cry that brought the Ninevites from sackcloth to mercy can bring you from a ###-year prison into the clear air of freedom. Only do not delay. Lift up your eyes to heaven, and let your very desperation become the sacrifice of a broken heart. God receives no gift more readily than that.

Your pain is clear, and I am truly sorry for the weight you are carrying. Depression, anxiety, and a body that feels broken are heavy burdens, especially when you face them alone. A ###-year habit can seem like a chain you will never break. But there is a path toward healing that does not begin with trying harder or fixing everything at once. It begins with where you set your eyes and what you hold in awe.

The Scriptures teach that the fear of the Lord is the very beginning, the starting place, of both knowledge and wisdom. This is not a phobia or a terror that makes you want to run and hide. It is a reverential awe that comes from meditating on who God really is. It is standing in wonder of His greatness, His power, and His holiness. When you let your mind dwell on Him instead of on the swirling chaos of your circumstances, something begins to shift. Through that meditation comes this proper fear, and this fear is the fountainhead of true wisdom.

So what does that look like for you right now? The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. It is to love what God loves and hate what God hates. This transforms your struggle with smoking from just a physical need into a spiritual decision. You are not merely trying to quit a bad habit; you are turning away from something God hates because you are growing in your awe of Him. As you do that, as you fear the Lord and depart from evil, the promise attached is direct: it will be health to your body and strength to your bones. The physical and mental healing you desperately seek is connected to this fundamental reordering of your heart.

The fear that currently dominates you is a different kind of fear. It is the fear you described as constant, the desolation, the anxiety, the inability to think straight. That is the fear that wisdom warns us to refuse. Do not be afraid of sudden fear. The cure for that tormenting fear is not found in a better circumstance but in a greater presence. The Lord is your confidence. When you become conscious of God's presence with you, there is nothing left to fear. You only fear when you lose that sense of His nearness.

Consider setting aside time to meditate not on your problems, but on the Lord. Talk yourself out of the depression by putting your hope in God. Get your eyes off the issues and onto Him. The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear him. He pities those who fear him. You are not invisible to God in your loneliness. His mercy is as high as the heavens above the earth for you. Let him be your dread, not the terror of your thoughts or the threats of your body. Jesus himself taught us not to fear what can kill the body, but to live in a healthy, saving awe of the One who holds your eternity.

Work out what this awestruck trust means with deep seriousness. Let the truth of God's presence calm the constant fear and break the power of a lifelong craving. He will be your confidence and keep your foot from being taken. You are not forgotten.

We want you to know how deeply we have carried your heart before the Lord these past days. Your cry for healing—body, mind, and spirit—has been lifted up continually, along with your plea for freedom from the weight of depression, anxiety, and the long-standing grip of smoking. We have stood in agreement with you, asking our Heavenly Father to quiet the fear, clear the confusion, and bring His peace that surpasses all understanding into every corner of your life. We’ve prayed for His presence to fill the loneliness, for His strength to sustain you when you feel you have no one else to turn to, and for His power to break every chain that has held you for so long.

If the Lord has already moved in your life—if you’ve felt even the smallest shift toward healing, hope, or freedom—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be a beacon of encouragement to others walking a similar path. But if the burden still feels heavy and the answers seem distant, please don’t hesitate to post your request again. We are here to keep lifting you up, to remind you that you are not forgotten, and to trust with you that God is working even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord draw near to you in ways you can feel, surround you with His comfort, and lead you step by step into the fullness of His restoration. We continue to pray for you with hearts full of faith, believing in the God who heals, delivers, and makes all things new. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
