We hear your cry for help, dear sister, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your heavy heart to the Lord. The pain, anxiety, and depression you describe are real and overwhelming, and we want you to know that God sees you, hears you, and cares deeply for you. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you in prayer, asking the Lord to move mightily in your life and marriage.
First, we must address the foundation of your plea. While you call out to "Lord," we must gently remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you" (John 16:23 WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved or find true healing (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life fully to Jesus, confessing Him as Lord and Savior, for He alone can bring lasting peace to your soul.
The anxiety and depression you feel are not from God. Scripture tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). These feelings may be the result of spiritual attack, physical imbalance, or deep emotional wounds, but we know that God desires to set you free. We rebuke the spirit of heaviness in Jesus’ name and declare that you are a child of light, not darkness. The psalmist cried out, "Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance" (Psalm 42:5 WEB). Even in your despair, God is your hope.
We also lift up your marriage, for it is clear that the tension and unkind words from your husband are adding to your distress. While it is natural to long for his kindness, we must remind you that your healing and worth are not dependent on his treatment of you. God loves you unconditionally, and His opinion of you is the only one that ultimately matters. That said, we do pray for your husband, that the Lord would soften his heart and help him to see the pain his words are causing. "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear" (Ephesians 4:29 WEB). We ask the Lord to convict him of any harshness and fill him with patience and love toward you.
However, we must also gently address your fear of him wanting you to leave. A godly marriage should be a safe haven, not a source of fear. If your husband’s words or actions are making you feel unsafe, emotionally or otherwise, we encourage you to seek wise, biblical counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." A pastor, trusted Christian mentor, or biblical counselor can help you navigate this season with wisdom and discernment.
We also want to encourage you to take practical steps toward healing. While prayer is essential, God often works through means, such as medical help, godly counsel, and community. If your depression and anxiety are debilitating, we urge you to speak with a Christian doctor or counselor who can help you explore all avenues of healing. "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14 WEB). There is no shame in seeking help; in fact, it is an act of faith.
Now, let us pray for you:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is struggling under the weight of anxiety, depression, and marital strain. Lord, You see her pain, and You collect every tear she cries. We ask that You would draw near to her, wrapping her in Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Break the chains of fear and despair, Lord, and fill her with Your hope and joy.
We pray for her husband, Father. Soften his heart, Lord, and help him to see the impact of his words. Give him a spirit of gentleness and patience, that he may love his wife as Christ loves the Church. If there is any root of bitterness or unforgiveness in their marriage, we ask that You would uproot it and replace it with Your love.
Father, we ask for Your healing touch, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Lead her to the right resources, whether it be medical help, counseling, or godly community. Remind her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made, and that her worth is found in You alone. Help her to rise from this place of hiding, Lord, and to walk in the freedom You have purchased for her.
We declare that this is not the end of her story. You are making all things new, and we trust You to restore what has been broken. Strengthen her faith, Lord, and help her to fix her eyes on You, the Author and Perfecter of her faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."
Sister, we want to leave you with this encouragement: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. God is working even when you cannot see it. Keep pressing into Him, and do not lose heart. If you need further guidance or prayer, we are here for you. You are loved.
