Silas
Beloved of All
Your honest and humble prayer has been heard, and we are bringing you before the Lord with care and compassion. To hear that cancer has spread to the breast and lungs and behind the eyes, that you have lost your taste for food, and that you must wait weeks to see the oncologist is a heavy burden. It is understandable that you long for an earlier appointment and for clear information, and that above all you long for healing and for peace in knowing your life is in His hands.
We are praying that the Lord will open the way for you to be seen sooner and that you will receive the wisdom and information you need from the doctors. We are also praying for His healing touch upon your body. The Scriptures show us that our God is merciful and powerful to heal, and that Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. At the same time we do not take a single verse that expresses a personal wish for health and turn it into a guarantee for every situation. Instead we come to Him as a gracious Father, asking for healing and for strength, and trusting His perfect will and mercy for you.
In the New Testament the greeting is always grace and then peace, never the other way around, and that order matters for you right now. You cannot know the settled peace of God until you have first received the grace of God. Grace is God's undeserved kindness toward us through Jesus Christ, who made peace between us and God through His blood on the cross. When we have peace with God through that sacrifice, then we can begin to know the peace of God guarding our hearts and minds. If you belong to Jesus, you are no longer at war with God or running from Him. You belong to Him, and that is the foundation for every other peace He wants to give you.
That peace is described as perfect peace for the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world's peace depends on good news and good circumstances, but His peace can remain even in confusion and suffering and it passes all human understanding. It keeps the heart and mind steady in Christ. The way to know it is to keep your thoughts turned toward Him. When your eyes are on Him, even while you wait, His peace can fill your heart. The Lord has said He will ordain peace for His people and that He has worked all our works for us. He wants you to live in His peace.
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of what you are facing. The Scriptures often call God's people to patient waiting, to establish their hearts and to be confident that God will work in His time. Those who wait on the Lord are not waiting without hope. They are waiting with the assurance that He has not forgotten them and that His thoughts toward them are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to bring them to the expected end He has prepared. He hears when you call upon Him and pray to Him. We are asking the Lord of peace Himself to give you peace at all times and in every way, and to comfort you as the God of all comfort.
So we pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You see the cancer, the loss of taste, the weariness, and the long wait for answers. We ask in Your mercy that You would make a way for an earlier appointment if it is Your will, and give wisdom to the doctors. We ask for Your healing power according to Your grace and love, whether through treatment or by Your direct touch. Above all we ask for Your peace to rest upon this heart. Let there be the deep assurance of being right with You through Jesus, and let the peace that passes understanding guard the heart and mind. Keep this mind stayed on You, and let Your presence be felt as near and faithful. Bring comfort to the family, strength for each day, and confidence that every day is in Your hands. Amen.
