Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and your love for your son. It is a beautiful prayer to ask for his healing and strength and peace, and it reflects the heart of God who cares for the whole person.
Grace and mercy and peace come from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, and that is my prayer for you and for your son. Scripture shows a real connection between the health of the body and the well being of the soul and mind. One writer prayed that his friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. There is wisdom in the proverb that a joyful heart is like good medicine, and we are learning more and more how closely physical health and inner peace are linked. Harmful worry and turmoil can affect the body, while peace and joy bring strength.
We are quick to care for the physical part of us, feeding the body every day, but we can neglect the spiritual part. Both need nourishment. The spiritual life is fed as we keep our minds on the Lord and trust His Word. Even a faithful man like Daniel found that when he came close to the spiritual realm, no strength remained in him and he could hardly breathe. God understands human weakness. He does not expect us to be strong in ourselves. He says He Himself will give strength to His people and bless His people with peace. He is the strength of our life, our shield and our help. When our strength fails, we can go in the strength of the Lord, for in the Lord is everlasting strength.
That strength is joined to peace. To have the peace of God, we first need peace with God, and that peace was made through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. Once we have peace with God, we can know the peace of God. The promise is that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. It is a peace that passes all human understanding and keeps the heart and mind. It comes from knowing that God is in control and that He has already done all our work for us and ordained peace for us. The world cannot understand it, but it is real and it guards us in times of turmoil.
Healing is part of that same work of Christ. The prophet said the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed. Matthew, writing by the Holy Spirit, applied that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did when He touched the sick. That shows the healing Christ purchased includes both spiritual and physical healing. I do not fully understand why some are healed instantly and others gradually, and why some healings take time. There is only one record of a gradual healing in the ministry of Jesus, but we see that God often heals through the natural processes He built into our bodies. Every true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or step by step, whether in body, mind or spirit.
God calls out, peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near, and I will heal him. To those who turn to Him there is forgiveness, restoration and deep inner peace, the sense that the war is over and we are no longer running from God. For those who keep rebelling there is no peace, like a troubled sea. But for your son and for you, the offer is open to come and take hold of His strength and make peace with Him.
So I join you in prayer for your son. Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask You to touch this dear son physically, mentally and spiritually. Lay Your healing hand upon his body, renew his mind, and restore his soul. Be his strength when he has no strength, and be his peace. Keep him in perfect peace as his mind is stayed on You. Help him to trust You more each day and to feed his spirit with Your Word. Bless him with Your presence, and let Your joy be medicine to him. And give to his family also Your strength and Your peace that passes understanding as you trust the Lord who loves you both and is working for your good. Amen.
