Healing, strength, peace

Your prayer for your son is heard, and it is a beautiful and right prayer to bring before the Father. To ask for healing, for strength, and for peace is to ask for the very things God delights to give to His children.

Scripture makes a distinction that is so important for us. There is peace with God, and there is the peace of God. Peace with God comes only one way, through the blood of Jesus Christ who made peace for us on the cross. When we have been at war with God in our hearts, that war ends when our sins are forgiven through Him. Then the turmoil inside begins to quiet, and we can know the second kind of peace, the peace of God living and ruling in our hearts.

That peace is described as a peace that goes beyond our understanding. The world cannot explain it, and Jesus Himself said that the peace He gives is not like the world gives. It is a perfect, complete peace. The promise is that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. As you and your son turn your thoughts toward the Lord and trust Him to take care of what you cannot control, His peace begins to fill the heart and mind and guard them in Christ.

With that peace God also gives strength. He does not ask you to find strength in yourself. He is your strength, your shield, and your salvation. The psalm says the Lord will give strength to His people and bless His people with peace. Another promise calls us to trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord is everlasting strength. When our own strength fails and we feel we have none left, His strength remains. He is near to help, to uphold, and to carry you and your son through each day.

You also asked for healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. God is the healer of the whole person, and His healing touches body, mind, and spirit. Sometimes that healing is immediate, and sometimes it is gradual, like the healing that comes step by step through the natural processes God Himself designed in our bodies. All true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or through a process over time. He has promised peace and healing to those who call upon Him, whether they feel near or far off, and His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you hope.

So we join with you in prayer for your son. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this beloved son before You. We ask You to touch him in body, mind, and spirit and bring Your healing according to Your perfect will. Renew his strength where he is weak and weary, for You are everlasting strength to those who trust in You. Restore to him Your peace, that deep peace that passes understanding, as his mind is stayed on You. Let him know first the peace of being forgiven and right with You through Christ, and then the daily peace of Your presence keeping his heart. Give his family also strength and peace as they love and care for him. We trust You to do Your good work in him and to ordain peace for him, because You have already wrought all things for our good. In Jesus name, amen.
