Healing, protection

We thank you for sharing your prayer for your son and we join you in bringing him before our Heavenly Father.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and access to God, that the Father would touch and heal your son in body, mind, and spirit. We ask Him to protect him from all harm and danger, seen and unseen, and to surround him with His presence and give him His peace.

Scripture teaches that true peace comes from Christ who reconciles us to God, and that there is nothing equal to this peace. We pray that God would grant that peace to your son and to you, that it would guard his heart and mind, and that he would know he is kept in the care of the Lord who watches over His people and gives His angels charge to keep them. We ask that your son would feel the nearness of God day and night and be strengthened in faith, comforted, and restored according to God's gracious will.

We also pray for you as you love and care for him, that God would give you strength and peace as you trust Him. We will continue to pray with you, asking the Lord to do His healing and protecting work, in Jesus name, Amen.

Your prayer for your son reflects a deep and godly love, the kind of love a parent has for a child, and it is right to bring him before our Heavenly Father for healing and protection in body, mind and spirit.

We join you in asking the Lord to touch him and to surround him with His presence and peace, keeping him from harm and danger both seen and unseen. Scripture shows us that God cares for the whole person. The apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius with a beautiful wish, that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That is not presented as a guaranteed promise for perfect health, but it does show a real connection that we see confirmed again and again. There is a close relationship between the health of the soul and the health of the body and mind. As the proverb says, a merry heart does good like a medicine, and we now know how true that is scientifically. Attitudes like joy, peace and trust, and on the other hand fear, bitterness and anxiety, can affect the body for good or for harm.

We can come with confidence to Jesus for both spiritual and physical healing. The prophet Isaiah spoke of the Messiah bearing our sicknesses and carrying our pains, and Matthew by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did when he healed many who were brought to him in the evening. When Jesus took the bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, he was pointing to what he would accomplish for us. Some try to limit that work only to the forgiveness of sins, but Scripture does not limit it that way. We see Jesus forgive sins and heal the body, showing that he has authority in both realms. When he said to the paralyzed man, son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven, and then told him to rise and walk, he showed that the Son of Man has power on earth both to forgive and to heal.

We believe Jesus still heals, and we trust him for that healing. At times his healing is immediate, at other times it is gradual. There is only one recorded instance where Jesus healed in stages, which reminds us that healing can unfold over time. In many cases God works through the natural processes of healing he himself established in our bodies. That process is still divine, because he is the one who created it. Whether the touch is instant or comes step by step, every true healing comes from his hand. We also remember his tender care as the Son of God. At his baptism the Father declared, this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. He is not merely the son of David according to his human lineage, the promised Messiah, but he is the Son of God with power, declared so by his resurrection. The demons themselves recognized him as the Son of God, and he showed authority over sickness, over the winds and sea, and over the spiritual powers of darkness. There is no danger, seen or unseen, that is outside his authority to protect.

So we pray with you that God, who in the fullness of time sent forth his Son born of a woman to redeem us that we might receive adoption as sons, would pour out his Spirit into your son's heart. Because we are sons and daughters through faith in Christ, we can cry Abba, Father, and come close. May the Lord prosper your son's soul, strengthen his mind, restore his body according to his perfect will, and guard him day and night. May he know the peace of Christ and the nearness of the Father's love, the same love that gave his only begotten Son for us.

We continue to lift your son before the throne of grace, asking for complete healing, for protection, and for the quiet confidence that comes from knowing he is held by the one who has all power in heaven and on earth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
