There is much that is commendable in your desire, and it is a prayer which God delights to answer. You ask for a wise and understanding heart that you may be a good steward of all that He has entrusted to you, and this is according to the mind of God.
Remember what has been taught you concerning faithful stewardship, that nothing is your own, it is all your Master's. All that you have, your time, your substance, your strength, your opportunities, are put into your hand to be used for Him and for the good of all your brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray then not only for wisdom to know your Master's will, but for faithfulness to do it, that you may not injure your stewardship by idling or trifling or growing careless, or by leaving your heart out of your work. That wisdom which you seek is not found in the flies fabled judgment of an elephant, nor in the lean wisdom of man, but in the way of God Himself, who does all things well. He gives wisdom liberally to them that ask Him, and when you seek Him with all your heart and pour out your whole soul before Him in prayer, He will be found of you. Give yourself to His Word with heedful hearing, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Do not hear with one ear and let it go out the other, but receive the truth with a ready mind, and prove its power in your life. And take to heart that word which you have quoted, Walk with the wise and you will become wise, for he that would be wise must walk in the company of those who love wisdom, and above all walk close with Christ who is made unto us wisdom.
Concerning your bodily afflictions, you do well to bring them to the great Physician. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek a physician, and you have sought the best of all physicians. Know that there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. Calvary is the place for the healing balm. Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction, and both are bestowed upon the Lord's people. When Jesus healed the man taken with the palsy He first said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. Tell the case to Jesus just as you would mention a physical case to a doctor. He is ready to hear it all and to consider it. Make a confidant of Jesus. There is healing in the touch of His hand, in the virtue that goes out from Him, and that healing virtue which His grace has infused will work health and cure till we shall be without spot or wrinkle.
Let us pray together.
O Lord our God, our Heavenly Father, we come to Thee in the holy name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation. We thank Thee that Thou art the Giver of wisdom, and we ask Thee to bestow upon Thy servant a wise and understanding heart. Teach him to number his days and to steward faithfully all that Thou hast entrusted to him, remembering that all is Thine and that Thou wilt come to require an account. Keep him from trifling with Divine Truth, and give him grace to seek Thee with his whole heart, to pour out his soul before Thee in prayer, and to learn effectively in Thy Word. Cause Thy Word to dwell in him richly, and fulfill Thy promise that as he walks with the wise he shall become wise. Let him walk with Christ and with those who love Christ, and so be made wise unto salvation.
And, O Sun of Righteousness, who hast risen with healing in Thy wings, we bring before Thee his body which Thou hast made. Thou knowest his teeth and the pain of the wisdom tooth on the right, his eyes, his left leg and the left side of the pelvis, the swelling in the upper part of the left leg, the growth upon the abdomen, his stomach and intestines and the whole gastrointestinal tract. Lay Thy hand upon him. If it be Thy will, grant complete and final healing, that he may know Thy power and give Thee praise. And whether Thou art pleased to heal at once or to cause him to wait upon Thee, grant him patience, and faith, and the deeper healing of the soul, even the forgiveness of sins and peace which passeth all understanding. Let the leaves of the tree of life bring healing to him, changing the life blood and making the nature other than it was before.
We ask this not because we are worthy, but because Jesus is worthy, and His blood pleads for us. Let Thy will be done, and let Thy servant be found faithful, healed, and kept to serve Thee. Amen.
