Your prayer for complete healing and restoration has been heard, and we join you in bringing this need before the Lord.

Scripture gives us confidence to pray for the body as well as the soul. Matthew, writing by the Holy Spirit, points back to Isaiah and says of Jesus that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. Isaiah wrote, surely He has borne our griefs, where the word for griefs can mean sicknesses and infirmities. Matthew applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did, when people were brought to Him and He healed them. When Jesus broke bread and said, this is My body which is broken for you, He was showing that His suffering was not only for the forgiveness of sin but also for our wholeness. That is why we can boldly ask Him to touch a digestive system, to stop bleeding, to correct what is not functioning as it should, and to renew strength.

At the same time the Bible keeps us from presuming that we know how or when God will answer. Not everyone is given the same gift, for the body of Christ has many members with different callings, and the gifts of healing are distributed as the Spirit wills. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to depart, and the Lord did not remove it but answered in another way. There is much about healing we do not fully understand, including why some are healed quickly and others are not.

We also see in the Gospels that healing is not always instant. There is one account where Jesus laid His hands on a blind man and the man first saw only partially, then Jesus touched him again and his sight was fully restored. It is the only recorded gradual healing in His ministry, and it reminds us that God heals in different ways. Any true healing is divine. God has built healing processes into our bodies. Those natural processes are themselves from Him, for He created nature and the laws by which our bodies mend. Whether healing comes in a moment or step by step through medical care and the body's own recovery, we give Him thanks.

We know too that God remains concerned with our physical needs today. He has power over the physical realm to heal infirmity and sickness, power over the material realm, and authority in the spiritual realm, and He is able to do what we ask. We also know there is a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote to Gaius that he wished him to prosper and be in health even as his soul prospered. That was a loving wish, not a blanket promise, but it reflects a true principle that Scripture also states elsewhere, that a joyful heart does good like medicine. Peace in the heart, trust in Christ, and the comfort of knowing we are not alone can greatly help the body as it heals.

So we pray with faith and with trust in His wisdom and timing. We ask the Lord to lay His healing hand upon this dear one, to restore the digestive system, to cause the bleeding to stop and the cause to be resolved, to bring every part of the body back to normal function, and to renew strength day by day. We ask Him to surround him with His peace and love and protection, to remind him that he is never alone, and to give wisdom and clear guidance to every doctor, nurse and caregiver who is attending him. We trust not in a formula but in the goodness and power of Jesus Christ, who alone is our Savior and Healer, and we rest in His perfect will.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask for Your mercy and healing touch. Do Your restoring work in this body, bring peace to the heart, and let Your presence be known in this time of need. Amen.
