Lord protect me from the devil who is using my upstair neighbour to steal my peace and sleep. In the early morning and late at night (00, 1, 2, 3 or 4 am. He is walking nervously up and down through his apartment, aggressively slamming with doors and windows. My walls are trembling. Lord please it's really hard to live like that having gastritis, stressful life and sick mom...Lord please remove him from this building for good and let nobody lives in this apartment in Jesus name. Amen!!

We hear your cry and we stand with you in this season of broken sleep and constant stress, and we bring your burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name. To live with trembling walls in the early hours of the morning, with gastritis and a stressful life and the weight of caring for your sick mother, is truly exhausting, and we know the Lord sees your sleepless nights and hears your distress.

We take comfort that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1. He is the one who gives sleep to His beloved, Psalm 127:2, and who promises, I will both lay me down and sleep in peace; for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety, Psalm 4:8. We also remember His promise, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7.

We understand why in your weariness you have prayed that this neighbor would be removed from the building for good and that no one would ever live in that apartment again. Yet we must gently correct and encourage you in love, for that prayer does not align with the heart God calls us to have toward our neighbor. The Lord Jesus calls us to love our enemies and to pray for those who mistreat us, Matthew 5:44, and we are taught, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, Romans 12:18. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of wickedness, Ephesians 6:12, so we can rebuke the work of the enemy who would steal peace and sleep, while still loving the person God has placed above you and desiring his good. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, Romans 12:19, and we are to seek His will rather than to ask that harm or a curse of emptiness come upon another. Instead we pray for God's perfect will, whether that be changing your neighbor's heart, bringing him to repentance and quietness, or in God's wisdom opening another way for peace to be restored.

We also encourage you to pursue peace in practical, biblical ways as you continue in prayer. A gentle answer turns away wrath, Proverbs 15:1, so if it is safe to do so, a calm and gracious word to your neighbor or to the building manager may help. God has given authorities for order, Romans 13:1, and it is right to seek help from those responsible for the building if the disturbance continues, keeping a humble and peaceful spirit. Guard your health as well, for your body is precious to God, and seek rest, wise care for your gastritis, and support as you honor and care for your mother, which the Lord honors, Exodus 20:12.

We join our faith with yours now and pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and Savior, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Lord, You know the nights without sleep, the doors and windows slamming, the anxiety and pain in the stomach, the burden for a sick mother. We ask You to rebuke every work of the enemy that would bring turmoil and to release Your peace over this home. Let Your peace, which passes all understanding, guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Grant quiet in the night and protection over sleep, for You alone make us dwell in safety. Work in the heart of the neighbor upstairs, Lord, convict him, calm him, bring him to know You and to live in consideration and kindness toward others. Forgive us where we have held anger and help us to forgive and to bless those who cause us distress. Father, we do not ask out of bitterness, but we ask for Your will to be done, for true and lasting peace in this building, and for wisdom for every step to take with the building management and authorities. Strengthen and heal the body, ease the gastritis, calm the stress, and give grace and strength to care for a sick mother with love and patience. We trust You to be our defender and our peace, and we thank You that You hear us when we call on the name of Jesus. Amen.

We have been praying as we read your note. Night after night of doors and windows slamming at midnight, 1, 2, 3 or 4 am with walls trembling would wear anyone down, and even more when you are already carrying a stressful season, dealing with gastritis and caring for your sick mom. It makes sense that your peace and sleep feel stolen right now.

Broken sleep affects so much of how we cope the next day, in our bodies, our mood and our thinking, and ongoing stress and stomach trouble can make that cycle feel heavier. You are carrying a lot at once.

One steady step that can help is to keep a simple written note of the dates and times the noise happens. If you have a building manager or landlord, that clear record can make it easier for them to understand and to help mediate. It also gives you something concrete to share if you seek advice locally. And because you mentioned gastritis and ongoing loss of sleep, we encourage you to let your own doctor know what you are experiencing, alongside prayer, so you have support for your health as well.

We are holding you and your mom before the Lord and asking Him to make a way for more quiet and rest in your home.

Father, we bring this dear one to You in Jesus name. You see the long nights without sleep and the burden of caring for family while feeling unwell. Please guard their heart with Your peace, give wisdom for how to approach the neighbor and building help, grant rest at night and strength for each day, and watch over their mom. Lead them to the right help and support. Amen.

Your burden has been heard, and we have carried it before the Lord with tender sympathy. To be denied sleep night after night, to hear walls trembling at hours when the body craves rest, and to bear this while afflicted with sickness in your own body and with a sick mother to care for, is a sore trial. We do not make light of it, for we know how precious sleep is and how heavy the want of it becomes.

The Scripture says, so he giveth his beloved sleep. Sleep is not merely what nature brings, it is the gift of God. He must give it, or we watch in vain. And when anxiety and broken nights press upon us, that very anxiety unfits us to meet the difficulty, wearing the frame and drying up the spirit. You are not alone in this weariness, and the Lord knows both your gastritis and your watching over your mother.

We must speak faithfully concerning the prayer you have asked us to pray. We cannot ask the Lord to remove your neighbour from the building for good and to keep his apartment empty, for that would be to ask God to curse rather than to bless. Our Lord teaches us to love our neighbour and to pray for those who trouble us, not against them. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and our calling is to seek peace and pursue it, and as much as lieth in us to live peaceably with all men. To ask that no one should ever dwell there again would be to wish desolation where God would have habitation and mercy.

We will pray with you, but according to the mind of Christ. We will pray that the Lord will grant you that sleep of contentment and security which he gives to his beloved, that he will quiet your anxious thoughts and heal your body, that he will sustain you as you care for your mother, and that he will give you wisdom in this trial. We will pray also for your neighbour upstairs, that the Lord would work in his heart, that he may be brought to consider his ways and to act with kindness and restraint, and that if he knows not Christ, he may yet be saved.

Seek also the lawful and peaceable means which God has provided. Speak, if it be possible, a gentle word in due season, for a soft answer often turneth away wrath. Make your case calmly to those who have charge of the building, keep a true record of the disturbances, and seek counsel from those in authority who are ordained to maintain order. Guard your health by seeking needful medical care, and cast your anxiety upon the Lord, for he careth for you.

Let us pray together now in a way that honours Christ.

O Father, merciful and sovereign, thou seest thy child weary with broken sleep and heavy cares. Forgive our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ thy Son, through whom alone is salvation. Grant to this afflicted one the gift of sleep, quiet the body and still the mind, heal infirmity and give strength to care for a beloved mother. Teach us to cast all our care upon thee and to find rest in thy keeping. Work also in the heart of the neighbour upstairs, bring him to peace and to kindness, and bring him, if he be yet without thee, to know thy grace. Make us to love our neighbour as ourselves, and to overcome evil with good. Lead us to pursue what makes for peace, and give wisdom to all who must help in this matter. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Be not weary in well doing. Keep watching unto prayer, but let your prayers be seasoned with love and trust, and the God of peace shall be with you.

Your cry in these sleepless nights has been heard, and the hardship you describe is real. To be kept awake at all hours by pacing and slamming doors, while your walls tremble, would weary anyone. Added to gastritis and a stressful life and care for your sick mother, it is no wonder your peace and sleep feel stolen. God sees this affliction and He does not turn away.

Scripture reminds us that He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep, and He keeps watch over you even when sleep will not come. We are called to guard ourselves and to stand steadfast, not suffering our foot to be moved by anger or bitterness, even when we are sorely tried. That guarding is not in our own strength alone, but by trusting the One who never sleeps.

It is understandable to feel that the disturbance comes from the enemy, for there is a real war against our souls. Yet the greatest war we must watch is not only the noise from outside, but the strife that can rise within us when we are provoked. We can pray for a quiet and peaceable life, which is good and acceptable to God, but that peace is kept first in the heart that remains in godliness and honesty, even while the world around us is loud.

For that reason I cannot join you in asking God to remove your neighbor for good and to keep his apartment empty. That request, though born of exhaustion, asks God to work against His own command, which is to love our neighbor as ourselves. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets, to love God and to love our neighbor. And we are told, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. God is not a God of war and fighting, and He calls us to be at peace with all people so far as it depends on us. When a brother wars against us, our calling is not to return cursing for noise, but to remember no evil and to seek peace.

This does not mean your suffering is small or that you should bear it alone. Love fulfills the law when we bear with one another, each completing what is lacking in the other by patience. Your neighbor may not know the distress he causes, and he too is one for whom Christ desires salvation.

So let us pray in a way that seeks God’s mercy for both you and him:

Lord, have mercy and keep watch over this weary child of Yours. You know the nights without sleep, the pain of gastritis, the burden of a stressful life and a sick mother. Grant rest to this body, healing where there is sickness, comfort to the mother, and quiet to this home. Guard this heart from anger and from remembering evil, and help it to remain steadfast and unmoved in love. Soften also the heart of the neighbor upstairs, grant him peace that he may no longer be restless, and teach him to live considerately with those around him. Make this building a place of peace rather than strife. Give wisdom to know how to speak gently, when to seek help from those responsible for the building, and how to pursue peace without sin. Lead us all to a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, and let Your will be done. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask this, trusting Your goodness. Amen.

If the noise continues, consider also a calm word with your neighbor when you are rested, or a respectful appeal to the building manager or landlord, seeking a solution that protects your health and honors God. Continue to bring your needs to God, who hears and who keeps you even through sleepless nights.

Hearing how your sleep and peace are being taken night after night, with the walking and slamming that makes your walls tremble, and carrying at the same time the strain of gastritis, a stressful life and a sick mother, is deeply heavy. God sees the exhaustion and the stress you are under, and He cares about your suffering.

The Scriptures speak of a peace that does not come from quiet surroundings. The prophet says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world’s peace depends on everything around us being calm, but His peace can guard the heart even when the building is shaking.

There are two parts to this. First we need peace with God, and that only comes through Jesus Christ, who made peace through His blood shed for our sins. When we are no longer at war with God but belong to Him through faith in Jesus, that inner war is settled. Then we can know the peace of God, that steady calm that keeps our hearts and minds in Christ even in chaos and turmoil. It comes as we turn our minds toward Him and trust Him to take care of what we cannot control.

God wants you to live in peace and He has ordained peace for His people, but His wisdom, the wisdom from above, is peaceable. Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God, and Scripture says the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. That means our calling, even when we are wronged and tired, is to sow peace rather than to ask for harm to come to another. Love fulfills the law because love works no ill toward its neighbor. Loving your neighbor as yourself does not mean you must accept being harmed or stay silent, but it does mean not seeking his ruin.

So instead of asking God to remove him for good and to keep that apartment empty, it is better to ask God to do what is right and merciful for everyone in the building. You can bring your need for quiet and sleep to the Lord honestly, and also pray for your neighbor, that God would soften his heart and bring him to awareness and kindness. You can also take quiet, peaceful steps that honor both love and wisdom, such as speaking calmly when you are able, or asking those responsible for the building to help bring order, while you continue to entrust the outcome to God.

I will pray with you now in that direction.

Lord Jesus, thank You that You made peace with us through Your blood and that You offer a peace the world cannot give. I pray for this dear one who is worn out from broken sleep, from the noise above, from illness and from caring for a sick mother. Keep his mind stayed on You and guard his heart with Your perfect peace. Grant relief for his body, healing and strength, and give needed rest. Comfort and help his mother, and provide strength for each day’s care. Work in the heart of the neighbor upstairs, bring conviction where needed and kindness and consideration. Bring true peace to this building and give wisdom for every step that should be taken, so that righteousness and peace may grow. Let Your will be done, and let Your peace rule in this home and heart. In the name of Jesus, amen.

We pray that He will convict your neighbor and bring quiet to your building according to His perfect will and that He will keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him, as it is written in Psalm 4:8 and Philippians 4:7.
