We have read your request and we join you together before the throne of grace in Jesus' name, for we know this long season of harassment has been heavy and exhausting for you.
We thank God that He has given you insight about unforgiveness, because Scripture makes this connection clear. Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, and do not give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-27. Unforgiveness does give a foothold to the enemy, and when we forgive as Christ forgave us we close that door. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:14-15. We encourage you to continue to forgive from the heart, not because the harm was small, but because Christ has forgiven you so greatly and because you want no place left for the enemy to accuse or harass you.
We also understand your history in the new age, and we must speak plainly that those practices open doors to demonic influence. Scripture warns us There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh Deuteronomy 18:10-12. We urge you to fully renounce and repent of all new age involvement, to confess it to the Lord, and to remove and destroy any objects, books, or media connected with it, as the early believers did when they burned their magic books Acts 19:19. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. This thorough repentance and cleansing helps shut doors that were opened.
We also want to help you understand the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation. God commands us to forgive everyone, but reconciliation and restored relationship require repentance and change on both sides. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. That verse shows that peace with all is not always possible, especially when others remain under deception, unsaved, or influenced by evil, and when they show no desire to rebuild trust apart from public perception. Forgiveness is immediate and from the heart, reconciliation is a process that must be guarded with wisdom and boundaries. It is right that you are seeking counsel from your pastor and elders, and we strongly encourage you to do so and not walk this path alone. Bring them the full story, let them pray over you, help you discern who is safe to approach and how, and hold you accountable. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8, and we know our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. The people harassing you are themselves in need of deliverance, and you cannot force their response.
We also noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must address this lovingly because it is central. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and authority over the enemy. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full faith in Jesus Christ, confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation Romans 10:9. It is in His name that demons must flee, for you are greater than the enemy because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7.
We now pray together for you.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that You see our brother or sister and You know every year of harassment and pain. We ask You to forgive all involvement in the new age and to cleanse by the blood of Jesus every door that was opened, and we renounce that darkness now in Jesus' name. We ask You to help our dear one to fully forgive all who have harmed them, as You have forgiven them, and to release every bitterness and debt into Your hands. We pray You would break every assignment of demonic harassment, every spell and influence, and we claim the victory of the cross where You disarmed principalities and powers Colossians 2:15. Clothe our dear one with the whole armor of God, that they may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil Ephesians 6:11, and fill them with Your perfect love which casts out fear, for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. Give wisdom to know how to pursue peace without being pressured or manipulated, and give their pastor and elders discernment and courage to walk closely with them, to pray for deliverance and to protect them. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. We declare that the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds 2 Corinthians 10:4, and we ask for complete freedom, sound mind, and rest in Jesus' name. Amen.
We encourage you to remain daily in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship, to put on the armor of God each day Ephesians 6:10-18, to worship and to resist the enemy out loud in the name of Jesus, and to let your pastor and elders help you set wise boundaries. You do not need to rebuild close relationships with everyone you forgive, and you do not need to respond to pressure that ignores wisdom and safety. God will honor your obedience to forgive and to seek peace as far as it depends on you, and He Himself will be your defender and your peace.
