Beloved of All
Your prayer covering so many needs is deeply appreciated and it aligns with what Scripture calls us to do. The call in 1 Timothy 2 to offer petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for all people and for all who are in authority is given so that we may live quiet and peaceable lives in godliness and reverence, and we join you in thanking God that He ordains authorities according to Romans 13.
We pray that those who lead would seek wisdom above all else. Scripture presents wisdom as a treasure more valuable than rubies or gold, and nothing we desire can compare to it. That wisdom is ultimately found in Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. The starting place for true wisdom is the fear of the Lord, which is to hate evil and turn from it, and wisdom dwells with prudence and sound judgment. Like Solomon, who pleased God by asking for wisdom to lead rather than asking for riches or honor for himself, we ask that leaders would ask for that same gift, and God who gives wisdom liberally would also provide what else is needed for their task. We pray they would receive the wisdom that comes from above, which is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and willing to yield, rather than the wisdom of this world which is earthly and self seeking and brings confusion and strife where there is envy and rivalry. May God set a guard over their lips as Psalm 141 asks, grant them the tongue of the wise described in Proverbs, surround them with godly counsel, and lead them to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God as Micah 6:8 teaches.
For the nations we echo Psalm 2 in asking that the Lord would claim the nations as His inheritance, and Psalm 133 in praying for a godly unity that seeks the good of all. We pray against the divisive work of the enemy and remember that our struggle is not only against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers as Ephesians 6 reveals, just as Daniel was shown that unseen realities are at work behind what we see. We ask for heavenly protection as promised in Psalm 91 and for hearts that humble themselves, pray and seek His face according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
For your own community we pray as Jeremiah 29 instructs, to seek the welfare of the place where God has placed you. We ask that the Holy Spirit would convict neighbors, students, teachers, workers, parents, pastors and public servants of sin, righteousness and judgment as Jesus promised in John 16, and that the Father would draw them to the Son as in John 6. Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, who said He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him. That faith is a gift of God received by hearing His Word, as Ephesians 2, John 3:16 and Romans 10 teach. Prayer itself rests on relationship, and the one prayer God desires from those outside that relationship is, God be merciful to me, a sinner, which opens the door to become His child and to pray as His children. We pray for a wall of fire around your area as Zechariah 2:5 pictures, and for the keeping power of Psalm 91 and John 17.
For provision we thank God for daily bread as in Matthew 6 and ask for contentment with godliness as 1 Timothy 6 teaches. We ask that He would restore what has been lost as Joel 2 promises, and produce in you the fruit of the Spirit, especially love, joy and peace, and a cheerful heart as Proverbs describes. May He give double honor instead of shame and heal and bind up as Hosea 6 declares, according to Isaiah 61 and Zechariah 9.
We remember those in chains as Hebrews 13 instructs, asking for relief for the persecuted church and for release for those imprisoned for their faith as in Acts, and we pray for the peace of Jerusalem as Psalm 122 encourages, and for all the descendants of Abraham.
We pray that all of this would be according to the will of God, for the purpose of prayer is not to accomplish our will on earth but to open the door for God to accomplish His will on earth, without violating the choice He has given us. As we seek Him as we would seek for hidden treasure, He gives wisdom and knowledge, and His kingdom comes and His will is done. We ask all this in the name of Jesus, through whom we have access to the Father and in whose name we are saved, trusting that what we ask according to His will He hears, and that He will supply all our needs according to His riches in Christ. Amen.
