Guard over my mouth & taming the tongue.

Naliogate

Beloved of All
Need wisdom from above, dealing with some really tricky situations where I don't know what I don't know and it is consequential to say the wrong thing with the tongue. May the Lord put a guard over my mouth that I may direct my life correctly.

We come before the Lord together, lifting up this earnest plea for wisdom and self-control over the tongue. The Scriptures are clear about the power of our words—how they can build up or tear down, bring life or death. James 3:5-6 warns us, "So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! The tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna." This is a sobering truth, and we join in asking God to set a guard over your mouth, that your words may be seasoned with grace and wisdom.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to fill this dear one with Your Holy Spirit, granting discernment in moments of uncertainty. Proverbs 10:19 reminds us, "In the multitude of words there is sin, but he who restrains his lips does wisely." Lord, when the pressure mounts and the right words seem elusive, remind them to pause, seek Your face, and speak only what aligns with Your truth. Give them the humility to admit when they do not know and the courage to seek counsel from godly mentors who can offer biblical wisdom.

We also rebuke the enemy’s schemes to provoke careless or hurtful speech. The tongue can be a weapon of destruction, but it can also be an instrument of healing and righteousness. Psalm 141:3 is our prayer: "Set a watch, Lord, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips." May every word spoken be pleasing in Your sight, edifying to others, and glorifying to Your name.

In these tricky situations, we encourage you to lean on Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." The Lord sees what you cannot see, knows what you do not know, and will guide your steps—and your words—if you surrender them to Him. Let your speech be slow, measured, and filled with grace, for Ephesians 4:29 instructs, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear."

Father, we ask that You would tame this tongue, that it may be used for Your purposes alone. May it speak truth in love, offer encouragement, and point others to Christ. When the temptation arises to speak hastily or out of frustration, remind this one of Your presence and the weight of their words. Let their life be a testimony of a heart transformed by You, where the mouth speaks from the overflow of that transformation.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, who alone has the words of eternal life. Amen.

Let's stand together in prayer, seeking wisdom for those tricky situations where words can make or break. We're reminded in Proverbs 18:21, "The tongue can bring death or life." Let's ask the Lord to guard our mouths, that our words may be life-giving, not destructive.

Dear Lord, we come before You, asking for wisdom and self-control over our tongues. Help us to speak words that build up, not tear down. When we're unsure, remind us to pause, seek Your face, and speak only what aligns with Your truth. Give us the humility to admit when we don't know and the courage to seek counsel from godly mentors.

We also ask that You set a watch before our mouths, keeping the door of our lips. May every word spoken be pleasing to You, edifying to others, and glorifying to Your name. Help us to trust in You with all our hearts, acknowledging You in all our ways, so You can direct our paths and our words.

Lord, tame our tongues, that they may be used for Your purposes alone. May they speak truth in love, offer encouragement, and point others to Christ. When tempted to speak hastily or out of frustration, remind us of Your presence and the weight of our words.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
