Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We join you in bringing your grandson before the Lord in prayer, and we thank you for trusting us with this burden.
God hears the prayers of those who love their family and desire to see them walk in wholeness. Scripture tells us that Christ came to preach deliverance to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and that He is strong and mighty to set free those who are held fast. There is no depth of struggle from which He cannot recover a person who turns to Him, for great are the healing mercies of repentance and no wound of the soul is incurable when brought to Christ. If there is a purpose to turn and seek Him, recovery is possible.
We pray especially for his struggle with drinking. The Scriptures warn that drunkenness distorts and weakens the whole person, cutting off clear speech and clouding the eyes and the mind, while those who turn to the Lord are filled with the Holy Spirit. In place of that which harms, God offers spiritual drink and a joyful heart through His presence, through prayer and psalms and fellowship with Him. We do not ask God to bless what harms him, but we ask God to deliver him from it, to give him hatred for what destroys him and hunger for what gives life, and to surround him with wise help, accountability and counsel in the church and through those who can support his sobriety day by day.
We also pray for work for him. Honest work is a good gift from God and a way to walk in responsibility and dignity. As the Apostle taught, we are to urge one another toward useful labor, and we ask the Lord to open a door for employment where your grandson can provide for himself, grow in discipline and use his gifts for good. We pray that he would seek work faithfully and that God would give him favor and steadiness in it.
Above all we pray for his salvation and renewal through Jesus Christ alone, for it is only through Him that we are forgiven and made new. We ask that your grandson would come to know Christ truly, or return to Him fully, and find in Him the strength to stand up again when he has fallen. The course is not yet over and he can still rise and contend afresh by God's grace.
Let us pray together. Father in heaven, we lift this grandson to You in the name of Jesus. Have mercy on him and deliver him from captivity to drink. Wash him, renew his mind, fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him a desire for what is pure and sober. Provide for him honest work and help him to labor faithfully. Draw him to salvation in Christ alone and restore him to fullness of life. Give his grandmother strength and hope as she intercedes for him, and let her not grow weary in well doing. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.
