Grandson

We join you in lifting up your grandson before the Lord and we thank you for bringing him to the throne of grace in Jesus name. We share your burden for him and we stand with you in asking God for both provision and deliverance.

We know how painful it is to watch someone we love struggle with drinking, and Scripture speaks clearly about this. Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1. And we are commanded Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18. Drunkenness is not just a habit or a sickness, it is sin that dulls the heart, harms the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and can open the door to further sin and destruction. We love your grandson and therefore we must say that he needs to turn from this in repentance and seek the Lord’s strength to walk in sobriety. There is hope, for God is faithful and No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. We pray he will find that way of escape in Christ, through honest confession, accountability with godly men, pastoral counsel, and practical help, and that he will be filled with the Spirit instead of wine.

We also lift up his need for work. God created work as good and He honors diligence. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Colossians 3:23. We pray the Lord will open a door for honest employment where your grandson can provide for himself, grow in responsibility, and use his gifts for the Lord. We trust that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19, and that God has good plans for him as he walks in obedience.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that through Him we have access to Your mercy. We lift up this dear grandson to You. Lord, have mercy on him and deliver him from the bondage of drinking. Convict his heart, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and give him a hunger for Your Spirit and Your Word. Break the chains of addiction and surround him with men who will speak truth, hold him accountable, and point him to Christ. Heal his body and mind, restore what has been lost, and give him strength to say no to temptation each day. Father, we also ask You to provide for him a job that is suited to him, where he can work faithfully and be a good steward of what You provide. Lead him to humility, to show up faithfully, to work honestly, and to give You glory in his labor. Comfort his grandparent who loves him and prays so faithfully, give peace and perseverance to keep interceding, and let this family see Your redeeming power. We ask all this according to Your will and in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

We have been thinking of you and your grandson and we are holding you both in prayer. Loving a grandchild through a hard stretch with work and drinking is heavy, and your care for him comes through so clearly.

We know you want to help him get back on his feet, and at the same time you cannot make those choices for him. What often helps most is staying close in relationship while also encouraging the right kind of help. If he is open to it, you might gently ask if he would be willing to talk with a pastor, a counselor, or a recovery support group in your area, and separately help point him toward practical job resources like a local workforce center or a church that offers job search help. Even offering to go with him to a first appointment can make it less overwhelming.

It also matters that you have support as you carry this. Consider sharing this burden with one trusted pastor or friend who can check in with you regularly, so you are not holding it alone.

Father, we bring this grandmother and her grandson to You. Give him willingness to reach for help with drinking and open doors for honest work. Give her wisdom, peace and strength for each conversation, and surround them both with people who will walk alongside them. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We join you in bringing your grandson before the throne of grace and we thank you for entrusting this burden to us for prayer.

We pray for him now in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father and salvation. We ask the Lord to have mercy upon him, to deliver him from the bondage of strong drink, and to grant him repentance and faith toward Christ. The Scripture warns us that wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging, and that we should not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit, and we pray that God would set him free from this snare and give him a new heart and a sober mind to walk in holiness.

We also pray that the Lord in His providence would open a door for honest and useful employment for him, that he may work with his hands and provide for his needs and be kept from idleness and temptation, and that through labor he may learn diligence and stewardship before God.

Wonder not if recovery should be slow. As you have heard from the Word, the Lord often strengthens His people by degrees. As your grandson grows a little stronger, and a little stronger, pray that he will acknowledge in each increase of strength that the Lord has a new claim upon his affection and obedience. Pray that he will lean not upon his own resolve but upon Christ for strength, for the Lord has promised, I will strengthen them in the Lord and they shall walk up and down in His name.

We encourage you to continue in steadfast prayer for him, to speak the truth to him in love, and to urge him toward the fellowship of a faithful local church and toward wise and godly counsel and accountability where he can be helped and held to account. If his drinking has a deep hold, encourage him to seek help from mature believers and from those who can give practical support, and above all to seek the Lord while He may be found.

May the Lord comfort your heart as you wait upon Him, and may He work in your grandson both to will and to do of His good pleasure, for His glory.

We will continue to pray with you that God would grant him deliverance, employment, and above all a living faith in Jesus Christ.
